Why do many people (particularly cishet people) see big age gaps in couples that met well into adulthood (25+) as creepy or problematic? Maybe it's my queer point of view, but as long as one doesn't depend economically on the other, I don't see the issue.
A big difference in life experiences can be a problem, but that can happen between people of similar age too.

I understood it (you were mainly talking about 2D, not 3D), I just added my own thoughts on this specific point while I was thinking about 3D stuff. I fully agree that you would have to learn another program (in this example, blender). The difference with CAD is that the choice is wider (also in 2D, you could use any vector image editor).
I'm sorry for the off topic tangent, regardless.

I use freecad to export stuff to GLTF and I modify the stuff as meshes in blender. Having a polygonal 3D mesh is not as accessible as having a drawing, but it's more accessible than having to understand CAD. A mesh is just a collection of vertices and a collection of faces that connect those vertices. 3D is inherently complex but at least it has an universal language (polygonal meshes) so you're not forced to learn one specific application.

With the spread of far-right policies around the world (regardless of the labels used by the people supporting these policies) we don't feel comfortable in indirectly supporting any of these policies, if we can help it.

Did you try using the address sanitizer in your compiler? It's usually way faster than Valgrind and it caches a lot of stuff. Corrupted memory can lead to inexplicable problems so just the error messages may not tell us anything and we have to catch memory corruption before it happens.

In software development, dogfooding just means using one's own product ("eating your own dog food") not just for testing, but for regular usage to discover whether it's actually useful.
What you're referring to is called training on synthetic data, and it actually works better than I thought it would, but only for some kinds of training. Model collapse IS happening, just at a bit slower rate than I initially thought. LLMs DO need novel human-written data because they can't do it themselves. There's very fundamental pieces missing in the puzzle, and I would love if AI companies stopped wasting energy driving us to possibly the worst recession we will ever see.

Plenty of people is blaming "AI" in the abstract for the recent RAM price spikes, but I haven't seen anybody around here point to the actual and direct culprit of it all: Sam Altman secretly bought 40% of silicon wafers (not even produced RAM, just the silicon wafers) from two of the biggest RAM manufacturers, at the same time. Not even with specific plans for what kind of RAM do with them. This is just to mess up with competitors.

They're useful for some things, but mostly NOT the things they push for. Especially things for which they seek profit. Me running a small model in my PC is not profitable for any of them, not even indirectly e.g. to show investors that there's interest in the technology: since I don't use chatgpt or anything I don't even appear in their statistics.
I'm a ghost, playing with weird autocomplete machines.

On one side, I don't care about copyright and it has been only mostly beneficial to corporations and the powerful, so if the sum of humanity's knowledge is distilled into an open machine that anybody can have, I think it would be a good thing (at least with the assumption that we can't change the past and prevent LLMs from existing in the first place).
On the other side, these companies have abused their power and have spent mind boggling amounts of energy and resources training their models to try to outcompete one another in pointless benchmarks, and in some cases they produced actual harm to the world.
Even if some of these companies release open models, these two statements are not in contradiction. I would say to them: "Fuck you and give us what's ours."

I think it's fine for certain uses like software package names and other technical things (particularly back when name length was at a premium), but *never* for user facing text.
I'm more familiar with "i18n" for "internationalization" and fortunately I've never seen it outside linux package names.
