I could simulate no-expiry in a way by using NWC if I trigger a topup near the end of the eSIM expiring or when data is running low. SMS balance notifications would be pretty easy to add, right now we show how much data / duration is left on your invoice page.
You gave me a lot to think about and perhaps I should prioritize this.

yeah, I think silent link is pretty cool for a certain demographic. I'm the type of person that roughly knows how much data I consume when I travel so the Sovran eSIMs work well for me. I definitely designed this product for me 😅
I want to add more providers for truly global & no expiry because I know that is a sticking point for many. I have done research on this like once a month and I'm always unsatisfied with the providers.
Thanks for the feedback, the future of eSIMs is definitely no-expiry and probably global and I think once the tech gets better we will see more providers offer this.

On the invoice page it shows which networks / operators are supported for the package you are buying. If you had some specific networks you need to use it would be worth checking, it's normally not a consideration for me but I could imagine it is for some if you are in Alaska or something.

I just picked a random country UK:
Silent Link: $1.15-$4.65 (varies depending on which network you happen to get connected to)
Sovran eSIMs: $0.73-$5.00 (varies depending on which package you pick at checkout)
I personally much prefer the certainty of knowing:
- how much I'm paying
- how much data I get
- how long the duration is
I will concede the balance expiring is not ideal.
Also our pricing is getting better as more users give feedback.

I reduced the price down almost to how much it costs me to buy it. The prices of eSIMs in Sudan are inherently expensive and there isn't so much I can do about that. I'm just one person trying to make it easy for people to buy internet with Bitcoin.

Silent Links’ pricing per GB seems to vary a lot depending on the network you’re connected to, which makes it a bit tricky to figure out. On Sovran, we’ve worked to make this much clearer—you can see everything laid out simply on the product page:

That said, I don’t want to throw shade at other companies in the space—users seem to like them, and that’s great. My focus is on making sure Sovran provides clear, fair pricing for eSIMs.
We are still finding our footing but I think you might be surprised how cheap our eSIMs are. We more or less match the prices of Silent and in many cases are cheaper. Users will pick what they feel is right for them.

Hey, I added an override for Paraguay so the packages should be cheaper now! Unfortunately the packages I buy from there are already super expensive.
With scale I hope there will be a way I can buy packages in bulk so they are cheaper for the end user but for the immediate future this is the best price I can offer!

@nprofile…yvfs I love your project! but can you make it so in the API the user is not associated via their cashu token but instead by their nostr pubkey. It seems simpler that way, that way my id for my profile isn't changing with every topup.
It means I can easily recover my profile and unspent balance if my client forgets which ecash token is currently the profile id
I hope I made some sense with this 😅

We are using NIP06 to generate Nostr accounts in the app right now. So when you get a mnemonic that holds all your identities, and can be used to recovery all the ecash for all those identities.
It's amazing what you can do in 12 words.
In the future we will likely allow using NSEC but for new users I think using a mnemonic is just better.

They can't claim without the private key which is in the app. Maybe they can automate opening the app, opening the camera, scanning the code, and then redeeming it (within Sovran app specifically). I don't know how'd they set all that up in such a short time. But its certainly possible!
Plus, in the app we only allow users to redeem 1 ecash token for this event, so it will throw an error if you try to do it twice.
So on the next event I'll likely need to do something even more sophisticated but right now it seems to be bot proof. I posted one the other day that took multiple hours to get redeemed.

Its possible there are bots redeeming it, currently we use a priv key in the app and lock the ecash to that pubkey. It's not a perfect solution but assuming I rotate the keys for each event it should prevent people setting up bots.

Right now I'm using mnemonics because it means you can generate as many nsec's as you want from it. I think its much better UX, but I understand some users want to import their current nsec so that functionality will come eventually.
