We were at an Italian restaurant in Sweden. My partner and I speak English to each other. The waitress brought the food and said: ”Bon appétit!”

It's a bit more complicated here. The teaching language is either Swedish or English -- depending on the course. However, it is not required from a PhD student, researcher, and sometimes even higher to speak Swedish. Nonetheless, some boards operate fully in Swedish and if you've been invited to present something there, they just assume you speak Swedish too. In my particular case it is even more ironic, because I was invited to join as a representative of the diversity, equity and inclusion committee. :D

For me it‘s mostly my academic network on Bluesky to be honest. My fellow professional astronomers seem to have migrated to there as far as I can tell.
For the sake of not double posting etc, I am thinking about my content a bit more. Bluesky will be more academically for me, while here I hope to connect with likeminded people - be it astronomy, nerdiness, etc 😊

I’m excited to share that I’ve been awarded a grant to visit Nice, France, in February 2025 for an amazing collaboration! 🌟 Big thanks to the Walter Gyllenberg Foundation for making this possible! 🎉
I personally feel it‘s important to apply to grants already during your PhD. Sure I could ask my supervisor to fund my visit, but it‘s good training for the future, looks good on the CV and shows independence! ✨
