A few years ago, I was flying to Brussels from Bristol Airport.
I was walking with a stick, and it was a way to the gate. When I got there, I paused at the top of a flight of stairs wondering whether there was a lift. A woman, about my mum’s age, approached me, and sharply asked where the lift was. I said I was wondering the same thing myself, noticed who I was talking to, and struggled down the stairs rather than risk being stuck in a lift with Ann Widdicombe.

Incidentally, Bolton station is the only place I ever saw the late Queen. I arrived, the Royal Train was in and I saw her get into a car and be driven off to wherever she was going.

Arrived in London yesterday, and chilled most of the day. Now well-rested and ready to go exploring. Was going to do the London Transport Museum, but they make it really difficult. Ah well. At some point of this trip I will do the entire Croydon Trams.

@npub1dnd…hzjs bought me a nice iFixIt toolkit in Germany. In accordance with tradition, I have used it to fix something (a Playmobil figure I had mis-assembled in a way hard to disassemble and redo), and also inflicted my first injury on myself with it (stuck the pointy end of a spudger into my hand).

Why I don’t travel around the UK as much as I do around Europe, even though getting to Europe is a bit of a pain (thanks, idiots in England):
15 day continuous Interrail 1st Class pass (Adult): €605 (£500)
14 day continuous UK All Line Rail Rover, 1st class (adult): £1387 (€1677)
The Interrail pass includes two “own country” days to get me to the continent, and there is a supplement of €34 each way to use the Eurostar, but it covers almost all of Europe. The All Line Rail Rover covers the UK.
