This preference is seen among all groups, overwhelmingly – including Labour and Green voters and 18–24 year-olds. This seems to indicate that, in advocating for “trans rights” unequivocally, and in prevaricating over the Supreme Court judgment, politicians are out of step with their voters.
Toilets matter almost as much as changing rooms
The poll shows that most people prefer single-sex facilities over “gender neutral” (mixed-sex) provision. This is a consistent preference that hardly varies across all the situations we asked about, from workplace toilets (78%) to toilets in parks and pubs (81%) to showers and changing rooms at work (86%).

Bomb Attack at NYC Protest Outside Mayor’s Residence

"When Andrea Dworkin and other radical feminists began critiquing the misogyny of the pornography industry in the 1970s, the images were—by today’s standards—relatively tame. But Andrea and other critics saw the ideology of male dominance and white supremacy playing out in the images, which were produced through the routine exploitation of women. If those feminists were the first to analyze these features of the pornography industry, and those features have intensified over time, wouldn’t it make sense to take the analyses of those feminists seriously? That seems sensible to me, but not to most of the left or to a significant segment of the feminist movement.
This is what I have called the paradox of pornography. In my adult life, two trends are uncontroversial: First, pornography has become more widely available and routinely accepted in liberal and left circles. Second, the pornography industry has produced images that are more overtly cruel and degrading to women, as well as more overtly racist, than ever before. As the amount of pornography produced has increased and become more normalized, the degradation it portrays has intensified. Why would a media genre become more accepted by the liberal/left at the same time it becomes more misogynist and racist? Why would progressives who routinely critique sexism and racism give pornography a pass?
I have an answer: This radical feminist analysis of the sexual-exploitation industries has been ignored because it is compelling but isn’t cool. It’s not hip. It’s not the kind of thing that cool, hip people believe. And who doesn’t want to be cool and hip? Because a radical feminist critique points out that patriarchal sexuality really isn’t cool or hip, it’s unacceptable.
A more serious answer: The sexual-exploitation industries are deeply patriarchal, and fighting patriarchy is hard. It is the oldest of the oppressive social systems, going back several thousand years in human history, compared with several hundred for white supremacy and capitalism. Patriarchal ideas and modes of behavior are so woven into the fabric of everyday life that they can be hard to identify, let alone eliminate. Feminist organizing has forced some changes, such as improved laws against rape, domestic violence, and sexual harassment. But striking at the core of male dominance, especially at men’s sexual exploitation of women, produces intense backlash.
Although radical feminists have been marginalized for these critiques, the dominant liberal/left feminists typically didn’t suggest that the critique of the sexual-exploitation industries was antifeminist. But in recent years, the split between radical and liberal/left feminists has become even more heated over the question of transgenderism. Many (though not all) radical feminists challenge the ideology of the trans movement, which has led some pro-trans feminists not only to reject radical feminist arguments but declare that anyone who doesn’t embrace trans ideology is not really feminist. One liberal/left feminist journalist said that feminists who are uneasy about trans policies and insufficiently supportive of trans ideology are misguided but still feminist, but radical feminist critics shouldn’t be considered part of the movement. She argued that the term TERF (trans exclusionary radical feminists) is inaccurate because “I don’t think that they actually are feminists.” Radical feminist women who have been at the forefront of the struggle against patriarchy for a half-century are, from this perspective, no longer feminist because they challenge the ideology of transgenderism."

The memoir is described as an "explosive and revealing memoir...covering everything from the party's rejection of its popular leader, Alex Salmond, to the scandals that engulfed his successor Nicola Sturgeon". Mr Swinney has tried to distance himself from the SNP's obsession with the gender issue, but backed the Gender Recognition Reform Bill at every stage as it moved through Holyrood.
Ms Sturgeon became a hate figure to women's rights campaigners for her insistence that biological men could 'become' women. She famously refused to say whether she believed double rapist Isla Bryson was a man or a woman.

Ms Cherry was elected as an MP in 2015 for Edinburgh South West and was returned at the elections of 2017 and 2019. She acted as the SNP's justice and home affairs spokeswoman at Westminster until 2021 when she was sacked from her role.
She lost her seat at the 2024 general election. She blamed Nicola Sturgeon for her defeat, saying: "I’m not ashamed because it’s not down to me, but I am afraid to say and ashamed for my party, that both our reputation of governing competently and for integrity has taken a severe battering in the last couple of years."

While often associated with the political left, Dworkin was deeply critical of what she saw as the left’s failure to confront gender-based oppression. Her work exposes what has come to be known as the paradox of left-wing misogyny—the contradiction between leftist ideals of liberation and the persistence of patriarchal power within leftist movements.
Andrea Dworkin’s critique of leftist men centers on her argument that, despite their professed progressivism, they are deeply complicit in the sexual exploitation and subordination of women. In her 1983 book Right-Wing Women, she contends that the so-called sexual revolution championed by the Left was not about women’s liberation, but about expanding male sexual access to women without consequence.

Dworkin’s most cited insight on this issue is the assertion that “the difference between left-wing and right-wing when it comes to women is only about where exactly on our necks their boots should be placed.” According to this view:
Right-wing men treat women as private property—confined to traditional roles of wife and mother under male control.
Left-wing men treat women as public property—freely available for sexual use through promiscuity, prostitution, and pornography, all framed as “liberation.”
This distinction reveals a shared foundation: women are not seen as full human beings, but as objects to be possessed, one way or another.
Right-Wing Women: Understanding the Appeal of Conservatism
In her 1983 book Right-Wing Women, Dworkin explores why many women align with conservative politics. She argues that right-wing women are not irrational or self-hating, but are making a rational calculation:
They recognize that the so-called sexual freedom offered by the left often means increased exposure to male sexual aggression.
Traditional marriage, while oppressive, offers a lesser evil: monogamous male ownership instead of being sexually exploited by countless men.
As Dworkin writes, “traditional marriage means selling to one man, not hundreds: the better deal.”
This analysis challenges the assumption that conservatism is inherently more sexist—instead, she highlights the hypocrisy of the left, which claims to liberate women while normalizing their sexual commodification.
The Sexual Revolution and the Left’s Betrayal
Dworkin viewed the 1960s sexual revolution not as a victory for women, but as a masculinist project disguised as liberation. She argued that Left-Wing men are guilty of:
-Prioritizing market freedom or gender identity ideology over women’s sex-based rights.
-Silencing feminist dissent as “transphobia” or “puritanism.”
-Normalizing the digital brothel of social media and OnlyFans as empowerment.
While Dworkin remains controversial, her analysis offers a crucial lens: liberation cannot be built on the sexual exploitation of women, no matter how progressive the rhetoric."

A century ago, March 8 was not only a celebration. It was a cry for dignity.
"In 1909, women in New York marked a National Woman’s Day organized by the Socialist Party of America. They were fighting for better pay, safer work, and the right to be heard. At that time, many women worked long hours. They earned less than men. They had little power over the decisions that shaped their lives.
Then in 1910, at an international conference in Copenhagen, a German activist named Clara Zetkin shared a bold idea. She said one day each year should belong to women everywhere. A day when women could unite their voices and demand equality.
The idea spread.
In 1911, more than a million people across Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland joined the first International Women’s Day events. Women marched not for attention, but for rights. For work. For respect. For a better future.
But the reason March 8 became unforgettable came a few years later.
In 1917, in Petrograd, Russia, women went into the streets demanding “Bread and Peace.” They were tired of war, hunger, poverty, and loss.
These were mothers. Daughters. Wives. Workers.
Women who had carried pain in silence.
But on that day, they refused to stay quiet. Their protest became one of the sparks that helped start the Russian Revolution.
That is why March 8 matters.
It is not just another date on the calendar. It is a date written by women who stood up when the world expected them to endure in silence. Women who fought not only for themselves, but for generations they would never meet.
Years later, the world officially recognized what history had already shown.
In 1975, the United Nations began observing International Women’s Day. In 1977, it called on countries around the world to honor women’s rights and international peace.
So today, when we say Happy Women’s Day, we are not only celebrating beauty, kindness, and love.
We are honoring the woman who cries in private and smiles in public.
The woman who gives up her dreams for her children.
The woman who holds the house, the family, and everyone else together.
The woman who keeps giving even when no one asks if she is tired.
The woman who survives things she never speaks about.
Women’s Day is not only about celebrating women.
It is about thanking women for carrying life, pain, hope, and love all at once.
Some women changed history in the streets.
Some changed history inside small homes that no one will ever write about.
Both matter.
Both deserve to be remembered.
Remember the women who changed the world and were often never fully thanked for it.
