used to hang out a lot but since both of us moved to

A couple years ago my friend told me they are trans
(MTF) and I was cool with it, I had no problems accepting
that my friend was trans and switch their pronouns to
they/them. Fast forward a year or so later, they picked a
new name for themselves, and I was also cool with it,
took me a moment to switch their name and stop
deadnaming them. After knowing someone for 1 5 ish
years I supposed it's reasonable to take a moment to
think of my friend by their name.
Recently my friend told me they are having transition
surgery, they didn't go into details but they told me what
procedure they will be getting. And I don't know why, for
the first time ever since my friend told me they are trans,
I feel deeply uncomfortable with their decision. I
understand it's their body and they want to be able to feel
happy with their true self and I support that, but at the
same time, I don't know why I'm feeling so
uncomfortable with my friend getting these procedures
done. "

Our toys were simple: marbles played in dusty yards, hopscotch drawn on cracked sidewalks, checkers and cards gathered around kitchen tables while the smell of dinner filled the house. When the streetlights flickered on in the evening, it was the universal signal that childhood adventures were over for the day and it was time to go home.
There were no smartphones, no streaming videos, no endless scroll of digital distractions. Instead, we built our memories in the real world — with scraped knees, laughter echoing down neighborhood streets, and friendships that formed face to face, without the mediation of screens.
Music became one of the defining soundtracks of our youth. The 1960s and 1970s arrived like a wave of color and rebellion. We watched culture shift around us, carried by electric guitars and voices that dared to question the world.
For many of us, gatherings like the legendary Woodstock Festival of 1969 symbolized something powerful: the belief that peace, music, and community could reshape the future. Hundreds of thousands of young people stood together in muddy fields, listening to artists who poured raw emotion into towering speakers known as the Wall of Sound. Those concerts were not merely entertainment; they were moments when strangers felt like a single generation singing the same hope under an open sky.
Education looked different then, too. Our notebooks were filled with handwritten notes carefully copied from chalkboards. Research required patience, long hours in libraries, and stacks of heavy books rather than a quick internet search. We learned to slow down and think through ideas because information did not arrive instantly. Mistakes were corrected with erasers and ink, not with the click of a delete button.
Love carried a different rhythm as well. We fell in love while vinyl records spun on turntables and cassette tapes clicked softly inside plastic players. Music became the background to first dances, long conversations, and dreams about the future. Those relationships grew into marriages, families, and lives built step by step through the 1980s and 1990s — decades that saw technology begin to reshape the world around us.
Yet nothing compares to the bridge our generation has crossed. We are the only generation to have experienced an entirely analog childhood and a fully digital adulthood.
We remember waiting days — or sometimes weeks — for handwritten letters to arrive in the mail. We remember rotary telephones and party lines where neighbors could accidentally overhear conversations. Communication required patience and anticipation. Today, we can see the face of a loved one across the ocean instantly on a screen small enough to fit in a pocket."

The People AIM For Freedom
"The 3 most racist words in the Declaration of Independence came from the lips of the most silver tongued member of our white Founding Fathers and benevolent slave holder Thomas Jefferson. He went on to be part of a group of Presidents from George Washington to Andrew Jackson who felt American Indians should be vanquished from the country they discovered.
Jefferson’s War Department in 1807 had explicit instructions that any Indian resistance should be met with “the hatchet.” Jefferson further opined, “And…if ever we are constrained to lift the hatchet against any tribe, we will never lay it down till that tribe is exterminated, or is driven beyond the Mississippi, we shall destroy all of them.”
What makes the phrase “merciless Indian savages” so difficult to swallow is its comparison to Jefferson’s earlier contribution to the most revolutionary words in our nation’s history: “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” Maybe this sentence should be revised to include the caveat, “with exception of Indian savages.”
What amazes me is how a document created in the context of conflict, ratified 85 times by the Continental Congress, reviewed and revised multiple times would have kept in such a racist moniker against the original citizens without someone calling attention to it.
The reality is that the United States exists because the land was colonized by means of degrading, looting, enslaving and committing mass cultural genocide of Indigenous peoples. In fact, with the emergence of the United States of America, the flag Colonizers salute today was viewed by many as conflict, death, and destruction to the sacred and cultural American Indian way of life. Native populations decreased, as did traditional homelands, and cultural ceremonies. Many battles and forcible removal of Indian people from their traditional land is what this nation was founded on: from Battle of Wounded Knee; Battle of Steptoe; Battle of Little Big Horn; to Indian Removal Act; the Trail of Tears—to name a few. There were many Tribes/Clan's were simply wiped out by manifest destiny.

That the Governors of Michigan, Ohio & Indiana be instructed immediately to have designated according to law such proportions of their militia as you shall think advisable, to be ready for service at a moment’s warning, recommending to them to prefer volunteers as far as they can be obtained; & of that description fitted for Indian service.
That sufficient stores of arms, ammunition & provision be deposited in convenient places for any expedition which it may be necessary to undertake in that quarter, and for the defence of the posts & settlements there; & that the object of these preparations be openly declared, as well to let the Indians understand the danger they are bringing on themselves, as to lull the suspicion of any other object.

Just Wednesday night, Trump's Interior Department posted on social media boasting that "advanced nanobubbler technology" had "very effectively killed the algae" and that the water was "crystal clear." When ABC News visited Thursday afternoon, they found it filled with green algae-infused gunk. A new problem has also emerged: the "American flag blue" paint job applied to the bottom of the pool appears to be peeling away.
Now The New York Times is reporting the company hired to install the water-purification system, Greenwater Services of Brookfield, Ohio, received a $1.7 million no-bid contract despite having almost no federal contracting history. Its ultimate owner is the J.J. Cafaro Investment Trust, led by John Cafaro, a Trump donor and Mar-a-Lago neighbor Trump has called a "fantastic man." Cafaro pleaded guilty in 2001 to conspiracy to bribe a U.S. congressman. The Interior Department says it was unaware of his political ties when it awarded the contract.
A separate no-bid contract worth $14.7 million went to a Virginia firm for the blue waterproofing now peeling off the pool floor.

Your cat is looking at things in your house that you physically cannot see. For years we assumed cats just see a duller, blurrier version of our world. In 2014, scientists studying the eyes of cats, dogs and other mammals found the opposite is true in one strange way: a cat's eye lets in ultraviolet light, the wavelength human eyes filter out completely.
That means cats can see patterns, marks and traces that are flat-out invisible to us - things like urine trails glowing across grass, or markings on surfaces that other animals leave behind.
So the next time your cat locks onto a "blank" wall and stares like something's there, it might not be seeing a ghost. It may just be seeing something genuinely there, lit up in a color you were born unable to perceive.
The primary reason cats can see UV light lies in the structure of their eye lens. In humans, the lens contains proteins and pigments (specifically 3-hydroxykynurenine) that absorb and block nearly all ultraviolet radiation to protect the retina and enhance visual acuity. In contrast, a cat’s lens is largely transparent to UV light.
🐱Transmission Rates:
Studies indicate that a cat's lens allows approximately 59% of UV light (specifically UVA, 315–400 nm) to pass through to the retina.
🐱Human Comparison: Human lenses block virtually all light below 400 nm. Even at 50% transmission, the human cutoff is around 410 nm, while cats reach 50% transmission at roughly 340 nm.
🐱Retinal Sensitivity: Once the UV light passes through the lens, it strikes the retina. Cats possess photoreceptor cells (cones) sensitive to these shorter wavelengths, allowing the brain to process UV signals.

FAREWELL TO THE GIANT: THE INEVITABLE DECLINE OF TSITAKAKANTSA
It is with deep sadness that I see the confirmation of what I have feared since October 2025: Tsitakakantsa, the largest baobab ever recorded in Madagascar, is dying. A photograph taken this month and shared on social media immediately alerted me.
The giant has just lost one of its primary branches, a characteristic sign of imminent collapse in these millennial specimens. Speaking on RFI and in various media outlets (L'Express, Midi Madagascar...), I provided a scientific perspective on this irreversible process.
Here are the facts that today seal the fate of the Colossus of Andombiry:
900 years of history: This specimen, radiocarbon-dated by specialist Adrian Patrut, is about to conclude a nine-century cycle.
Climate trauma: In March 2025, Tropical Storm Jude caused massive flooding. Water surged through an opening at the top of the trunk, filling its natural cavity.
Internal liquefaction: Unlike traditional trees, the baobab is composed of living fibers all the way to its core. The stagnant water most likely caused internal rot, transforming its solid structure into an unstable mass.
Structural failure: The recent loss of a major branch, confirmed by my assistant Wilfred Ramahafaly with the village chief, is the clinical signal of collapse. The degraded tissues can no longer support the tree’s colossal weight.
The end of a cycle: Baobabs do not die standing. They fragment and return to the earth. Within two to three years—perhaps less—nothing will remain of this colossus.
The biological point of no return has been reached. As a scientist, my mission is to document and bear witness. This loss highlights the urgent need to protect the remaining giants still standing against the combined threats of climate change and deforestation.

Schoenbrun made the comments before the premiere of Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, starring Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder, at the 79th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday night.
The director’s third feature film was inspired by trying to rewrite the “problematic” genre, and it received a nine-minute standing ovation in the 1,068-seat Debussy Theatre on the French Riviera.
The psychedelic slasher, part satire and part arthouse horror, features a serial killer called “Little Death”. The character becomes a supernatural murderer after being bullied and made to drown for being trans during summer camp.
Speaking to Variety, Anderson described the film’s storyline as a powerful tool for “reaching out across the divide”. He said it would speak to “anyone who feels and identifies with disassociation, the out-of-body experience, the not feeling part of or included within a framework of societal norms”.
Schoenbrun added that the movie “was very consciously designed to be fun ... and to bring in a lot of people to have a discussion about sex and gender and overcoming trauma”.
The director, 39, added: “I don’t know any other movies – certainly any other Hollywood movies – that are having that conversation this way, from this perspective.”

"A women's rights advocate has branded Australia "the laughing stock of the world" following a landmark court decision on gender identity.
Sall Grover, the chief executive of women-only app Giggle for Girls, lost her appeal against a 2024 Federal Court ruling that found she unlawfully discriminated against trans woman Roxanne Tickle by excluding her from the platform.
The court also upheld the trans woman's cross-appeal, increasing her damages from AU$10,000 to AU$20,000 and ordering the app founder to pay up to AU$100,000 in legal costs.
Women's Forum Australia chief executive Rachael Wong has now voiced her shock at the ruling - and issued a dire verdict on the state of her nation.
She told Sky News Australia she was "still in shock" at the outcome.
"I don't think any of us thought that it was going to go this way. It's even worse than it was in the last instance," Ms Wong said.
Ms Grover herself also voiced her disappointment shortly after the judgment was delivered.
"I am absolutely devastated," she wrote on social media.
"Men who claim to be women have more rights than actual women in Australia," she said.
The Giggle for Girls app judged that Roxanne Tickle, who was born male, appeared male |
"It is women who are being discriminated against, not the men who claim to be us."
Ms Grover added: "But in a sense, nothing has changed... We will all wake up tomorrow and men will still not be women."

The 57-year-old was subsequently removed from the app in September 2021.
Ms Wong argued that Ms Grover should not have been forced to spend four years fighting the case, sacrificing her business and family time in the courts."

Under leaders like Risa Mednick, who served as executive director from 2008 to 2018, the organization expanded its outreach to include men, elders, and transgender individuals, and partnered with the city of Cambridge on the Domestic and Gender-based Violence Prevention Initiative.
