In case people are wondering why GitHub has been having some issues as of late - the GitHub COO recently shared that they're handling up to an order of magnitude more traffic than they were a year ago.
It's not like GitHub is just serving up pictures and text - things like the core git backend and actions are quite complex to host at scale. Idk, I guess I'm not surprised there are some stability issues when they're going from handling 1 billion commits/year to 14 billion commits/year.

I'm legit really curious what will happen should bleeding-edge memory, GPUs, and hard drives become inaccessible for regular consumers. Speculating, my hunch is:
1. Most consumers will simply not upgrade unless things break
2. Instead of buying new, more people will buy refurbished instead
3. This will open up the market for new vendors selling hardware 5-10yrs behind the bleeding edge
4. We'll start hearing more about performance-per-dollar

On the topic of Vim: I'm back behind my computer again today after having touched grass for a week. And yeah no, I don't think I actually like Lazyvim that much?
I feel like it messes with too many of the default settings; in particular overriding the `g-n` bindings to mean something else.
Lazyvim very much feels like a neovim-based editor, rather than a "configured neovim” instance. Kickstart vim seems much better for what I want imo!

I think through the remainder of the year I'll keep tinkering on my terminal setup. And I'm like somewhat looking forward to it?
My current order of tools to setup is:
1. vim — I have motions down, but I've forgotten how to manage buffers
2. zellij — still need to automate session/tab management
3. jujutsu — haven't used this in anger yet, but it seems right to me. Not yet tho.
4. nushell — I've never actually made the jump, though I've wanted to. This one's last.

Listen, there is no such thing as a bad cooking method. Different method for different outcomes.
But I will say this: I think barbecuing is overrated.
The upper end of it can be incredible. But the median experience just like,, isn't? Like, give me an oven and a blowtorch and I can create food that is juicier and has a better char than the average barbecue.

The taste is like, the perfect combination of rich, full flavors from the butter in the croissant. Which is complimented by the umami of the cheese/omelette/tofu. But that richness is cut by the acidity and umami of the pickles. Which is then all held together by the slightly sour kewpie mayo.
Traditional bahn mi uses plain white bread rolls with pâté to create a fatty, carby base. But imo switching that out for a croissant works surprisingly well too, and it's one less source of meat.

Bahn mi croissants are so good! — If you have a chance, I can definitely recommend it. Ingredient list if you want to try it:
- 1 fresh croissant, ideally from a bakery
- a bunch of home-made do chua pickles
- kewpie mayo
- slice of cheese OR omelet OR fried tofu
- optional: coriander for added freshness

I just found out about Lazyvim, and honestly I'm just going to give that a shot. Less novelty in re-learning key bindings, which I thought was cute. But guess what? I still get to enjoy working in the terminal again!
Lazyvim tries to take away the pain of configuring vim yourself. Which tbf: yeah that is about the worst part of using vim. And probably the most appealing part for me in Helix.

Nope, I give up. Helix just isn't there yet for me. It:
- doesn't have working reflow key bindings, which they inherited from Kakoune
- doesn't have support for tabs (a 400 LOC PR has been open for years)
- doesn't have a plugin system (and they're going to design a new language for it, it sounds like?)
- doesn't render diagnostics in a way that I enjoy reading
- doesn't have support for mini map/scroll bars
I think helix is a cool project. But I really can't see myself daily driving it as-is

As a company they don't seem particularly interested in engaging in the hyper-growth-or-die cycle that so many other companies fall into. And like, for something I treat as infrastructure, I think that's great.

boooo, Kakoune bindings (which Helix uses) don't provide a reflow operation. E.g. there is apparently no built-in equivalent to `gq` in vim.

The `gh` command line tool is actually really well done. Imo one of the better command line tools out there; with every operation structured as a noun-verb.
We used it a bunch to automate the release process, and it worked well! Unfortunately it still required a couple of `sleep` calls in between to work consistently. But as far as issues go: that's easily worked around!

Zellij's support for stacked windows is so nice! I now have a setup where my main pane has my editor, but my right pane has a stack of three different programs I can rotate through:
- a regular terminal session
- a tui-based git client (lazygit)
- a tui-based file explorer (yuzi)
In the future I plan to configure this further by creating additional, project-specific panes too. For example: dedicated `cargo test`, `cargo check`, and `cargo run` panes.

What's different about aerospace compared to e.g. Amethyst, is that the developers gave up on Apple doing the right thing,- instead re-implemented workspaces entirely in userland. And it actually works! Like; so much better than Amethyst ever did.

LoRa/LoRaWAN, at least on paper, should have a range of up to 1.5KM, with good battery life, and no subscriptions required. It's designed for lightweight trackers. I'm just really confused this hasn't yet been commercialized for pet trackers?

I'm looking at the state of cat trackers, and I can't believe there aren't any commercially-available LoRa/LoRaWAN-based trackers available.
The first category of devices are airtag-like trackers (2.4gHz), which have good battery life, are light-weight, have no subscription required, but with only a range of around 15-30M.
The second category are GPS/Cellular-based trackers, which have an unlimited range, but are bulky, have bad battery life, and require (expensive!) subscriptions.

booo, zellij doesn't have an equivalent to tmux's link-window functionality. That means you can’t have shared tabs between multiple sessions. And also: its default keybindings just don't work on macOS at all.
I'm actually wondering now whether switching to zellij is a good idea at all? I mean: yes, Rust good. But I'm not sure what else tbh.

I've been messing around a bit with my terminal prompt (starship.rs). I'm quite happy with where I’ve landed!
I now have a vertical line separator between each command invocation, which matches the window zellij separators. As well as some basic information about the current project.
