There’s also the carbon footprint to consider though. I’d travel to Taipei and Seoul a lot more if they had as good a train connection as Kansai to Tokyo.

Quite impressive though that one can now get by train from Barcelona to Rotterdam in half a day and a single connection.

Just took a look at Apple Maps and while the layout remains similar - the main hall connected to a smaller hall on the hill via a covered walkway - nothing of the original structure has survived, especially that unique gate / tower in the middle of the corridor wasn't rebuilt.

Thanks. Found it! Indeed Yamanotera - this area of Sendai is still named after the temple. As most places in Sendai it burned down during the war, though in this case not as a result of bombing.

Very suburban area nowadays - I hadn't assumed there was much of historical value there, and even if it's just a reconstruction now, maybe I'll drop by.

someone wrote that thanks to the weak yen, workers were flocking to Japan, which I guess I misread as meaning that the weak yen was making Japan more attractive to workers...

but why would the weak yen make Japan more attractive, even for workers from poorer countries? That is not explained in the article and I can't figure it out

I'm confused, wasn't it just last year that it was being reported no one wanted to work in Japan anymore due to the weak yen, as they could make more money elsewhere?

Found the answer. I’ll still wait a bit more to give Bluesky a try then - if Mastodon becomes too much of a dead place, I guess Tapbots will get started on that Bluesky client.

I’m a bit behind obviously then. I wonder if there are plans for @npub1z2n…a3cf to rollout a Bluesky client. Or maybe already announced and I missed it too?

Is it the most Twitter like though? What got me into Twitter was the 3rd party apps. And I went away when they got killed. My understanding is that Bluesky does not support 3rd party apps?
