That's what I'm doing also. If enough of us ask merchants for these payment methods, they might accept them. I've seen BTC being paid with a POS using BTC pay. I don't know if XMR can be paid in the same way.

The issue is, you need adoption and people to care about privacy. I think you imply more and more will care about pricy and I agree. But even bitcoin is far from widely accepted. You can spend it at Steak'n Shake, great ! But we can expect big gvt to push back against XMR ever harder as time goes by and I don't know if I'll be able to buy a loaf of bread with it at some point in the futur.

This quite true. I had my first encounter with the Monero community last year when attending the Monero Konferenco in Prague right after the BTC conference. All participants I engaged with were ex bitcoiners and quite a few were still bitcoiners. The vide was definitely cypherpunk and it was very refreshing from the big Bitcoin conferencses and the centralised actors. I think the two assets are not mutually exclusive. Satoshi wanted a peer to peer cash system, yes, but he also recognised early on Bitcoin was more like digital gold.

I read in the documentation that you can opt to spread your secret key in different places to secure your wallet and then havee to come up with parts of it to sign transactions. But what about old fashioned multi-sig where multiple keys held on multiple devices are required like 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 ? Is this solution available ? Is the solution to send funds from Wasabi to a properly set up multi-sig, keeping only spendable i.e less meaningful amounts in Wasabi ?

I've been thinking exactly along those lines. @nprofile…u8g0 makes the case that Bitcoin is a better store of value than XMR in his "Praxeology of privacy". So then, why not use the properties of XMR to anonymize one's BTC? A swap to XMR and then back to a freshly created BTC adress. Wouldn't this anonymize BTC? Of course then it's all about it's use, careful management and so on but at least source of funds should be pretty hard to figure out shouldn't it?

What is your favourite DEX, or the onee most respectful of one's privacy? I have used HODL HODL and after reading through their updated privacy policy, I'm put off by how much data they retain and disclose to authorities. Our right to privacy is a farce and I wouldn't be surprised if, upon exercising our rights and requesting deletion of data an investigation is then performed because, how many users will go to the trouble of getting their data deleted?
#Bisq looks interesting but it has constraints and I don't find it very user friendly. Any other option out there?

Absolutely, I find myself going through these extremes too. Is it the content we consume ? What do you read or listen to most ? There is a lot of hope in the ecosystem, people are generally privacy conscious. But then Prince Charles ratifies digital ID or Christine Lagarde makes another statement pushing for CBDCs and you realise the world is still f*cked. Snowden has lost against the deep state. He is not hailed as a hero by the majority and is still in exhile. So overall, it helps knowing there are solutions to privacy and sound money and we can implement them at our level but we'll still have to put up with an adversarial environment.

By the way, it's a mistake to judge #China looking at their adoption of technology. When we have bureaucrats running the show consistently in western societies against our long term interests, the chinese have a vastly different experience and history. Chinese officials are mostly driven by the futur and what the population recognises as "general interest". Drones here are an efficiency measure, a good use of resources. Meanwhile the balance of power is present contrary to our so called "western democracies". It's unofficial but every chinese knows that the government cannot oppose the population for too long, it is constantly at threat of massive uprisings. Evidence the Covid lockdowns which were brought to a halt in Shanghai as more and more citizens were outwardly voicing their discontent. These videos make for content and story telling but watching them you must remember the cultural differences and China's long experience with centralised power. You have to distance yourself from your western biases like an ethnologist studying a newly found population in a remote corner of the world.

Many of us feel we live in a period of pivot, maybe this is what 4th turnings are like. One thing I find intriguing is the ease with which society adopts marxist ideology seemingly being taught accross the west, in american colleges and in political science schools in europe like #SciencePo. Somehow 20th century experiences with communism and a large litterature on the subject weren't enough to deter a self proclaimed "ellite" to experiment with it again in the 21st century. Sure, Fiat shapes mentalities, but I know educated socialists who have all read Orwell, Huxley, Hannah Arendt, who keep cheering for the centralisation of power. Appart from ideology rendering blind, I'm struggling to understand how we got to this. Propaganda and group think are the mechanisms. But what happened to the notion of critical thinking I remember growing up with ?

The solution to spam is already here : fees/block size. If we use the blockchain more than we do today, we should price out spammers. This is how you raise the cost of spam. You admit yourself here that BIP110 won't stop it, spammers will have to find new ways. Meanwhile, have you considered in depth all the risks associated with adopting the BIP ?

It can be defeated by economical means, that's the point of proof of work. Also @nprofile…xxx2 argues you have to be flexible about your idea of what bitcoin is. I agree. But have you seen the latest price action? Where I still have some doubts is around the software. We're only a few months away from the Cubic attack. The network has survived but how resistant is it without pow? Regarding useage, it is being used. That's why I'm bullish personnally. I met with some of the community last summer, a lot of former bitcoiners who despise btc now for the institutionnal adoption and the departure from the original ethos. Regarding tokenomics, I understand Monero is inflationary in order to pay the miners but it's a low inflation number. From that standpoint btc definitely has the advantage, as well as the network effect. But I expect privacy to become more and more important and valued. We still need wider adoption, for both BTC and Monero imho.

Shouldn't the fact that this market exists alert us though? I learned at BTC++ in Riga that the ability of the NSA to analyse data far outweighs our capacity to produce it. I agree with you today, but although we're talking in absoluts, we are really thinking about the futur. When @nprofile…ac3v mentionned the window of opportunity closing on bitcoin regarding privacy I understand it was meant both in terms of the law protecting our rights and solutions deployed at the protocol level. If today a market exists for so called kyc bitcoin, what about tomorrow? The way I see it is we are left with the option to vote with our feet and move to jurisdictions where such markets have no influence on our holdings.

I had a umiversity professor, much more knowladgeable tgan you and I, OG bitcoiner, whom I met at MoneroKonf in Prague this year, expain that Nitcoin is non-fungible. Yes, onchain, nothing n stop you but gvt whether you like it or not can make you a criminal from your transactions. His argument was tge existence of kyced versus non-kyced bitcoin with two different market prices. I don't owmn any Monero but I'm receptive to the argument. There is no privacy onchain in Bitcoin, only anonymity. Privacy if anything comes from the cost of figuring out who's who and who owns what.

Yes. Anyone wanting to mine to their own pool using their own node with #DatumGateway have to be running #Knots. I'm not one for censorship and I think the non-fungibility of BTC is being overlooked by many so I'm thinking of running another node with core installed so I can keep playing with Bitaxe-like miners and still support uncensorable bitcoin.

Are they well capitalised though. Brought this up with Jack Mallers at BTC Prague. Companies with enough capital will be fine in a downturn but the smaller ones who are overleveraged might become forced sellers and add to downward pressure. So much the betterbmind you cause we'll get to stack for even less.

The next bearmarket could well involve forced liquidations. Jack's presentation was awesome, very personnal and a great summary of the impasse the Fiat regimes find themselves into now. 1971, the year the US left the gold standard started a wave of suicides amongst the young, criminality, impoverishment of the middle class and general debasement which continues to this day. But beyond Bitcoin, what I loved even more was joining the crowd at MoneroKonf, @nprofile…5ufe @nprofile…6fdd where the vibe was true Cypherpunk, one imagines similar to that of early Bitcoin conferences. There I met a very diverse crowd from all walks of life all driven to further the advancement of privacy and anonymity. Many bitcoiners were there as well as a university professor completely uninterested in Bitcoin for he views it as non-fungible, a take I found interesting when newly minted tokens fetch a premium on OTC markets. I have much to learn from this diverse crowd, Monero adopters and bitcoiners but already knowing there are solutions to the CBDC hellhole central governments will force down our throat is a huge source of optimism. #Prague2025 was awesome! And @nprofile…8sjr 's presentation was the perfect fit for a finale. Most of the issues we face gathered speed around 1971 when Nixon took the US and hence the world off the gold stantard. Fix the money, fix the world was the conclusion.

I noticed there were a few presentations about #Ukraine and how it stands as a bullwark of freedom today. I understand you're polish but nevertheless, I think that's a misguided view. The West is behind this conflict as Francois Holande and Merkel both admitted after being tricked by a couple of Russians who called them and pretended to be Porochenko. NATO armed Ukraine and bought time with the Minsk agreement which they never intended to implement, while people of the Dombass where bombed during 8 long years by their own gvt.
I encourage anyone who's not familiar with Jeffrey Sachs to listen to this ex US diplomat and current university professor at Columbia. The war in Ukraine is the work of the american deep state and was decided long ago.

Last sold for 13 ETH. People like Raoul Pal see value in being part of a community with perks etc, like a gentleman's club. They also think ETH will be the base layer replacing the current Fiat system and still view BTC as a long term store of value. For sure it's a lot more speculative than just stacking sats.

I fail to understand the values of your DAO. Individual needs that become rights appear to be coming straight from a communist manifesto where individuals are coerced into following an agenda. Bitcoin takes after Austrian economics, freedom as a principle, as a core value. Or you can't impose the "rights" of individuals to anything material without forcing a portion of the population to pay for it, exactly what we're experiencing in the current fiat system. Did you read Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged?

I don't get Safedean Amous here: Satoshi didn't mean to create a store of value, moslty an uncensorable medium of exchange? But didn't he mention "Chancelor on tge brink of saving banks" in the first block? The purpose was clearly to create an uncensorable medium of exchange that's harder than any other right? It seems to me the ever increasing appreciation of Bitcoin was planned from the beginning.
