Most of Africa is way ahead in mobile banking because they didn’t have a wide network of bank branches. And maybe in a similar way the extreme income inequality and poor social safety net in the U.S. will spark a new system of distributing economic value, like a guaranteed basic income? I believe that good leadership with a common vision could get people at all levels on board, and cause a massive shift, much quicker than we’ve ever seen in history.

No, I believe the country will come together again.
In tech, the most successful companies help you either save or waste tons of time. Similarly, leaders run on either division or unity.
At some point, a new leader will step up to give us hope and remind us of our common hopes and dreams, and I believe people will be so ready for that.

Unless I’m missing something, this only looks at the cost of asking a question once the model is built but not at the cost of building or updating the model. I’m curious how that would compare (and frankly have no idea).
