What the hell was I thinking? It knocked me flat, and still, having known several people that had shingles, it was a great deal suffering for two days to avoid what they went through. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Must be nice. We can practically swim under ours in the winter. I really need a sump pump. I think that's project 1167 on my honey-do list. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I would never have carpet in humid Humboldt county. First thing we did when we bought our house was rip out the moldy carpet. Maybe you can win the argument on health reasons. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 What would be your choice for replacements? Think it will be a stunning sunset this evening? npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 We were on our way home from playing guitar with @npub10jk…hspa and saw the beautiful sunset and I thought of you, hoping you were enjoying the view from your new deck. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I absolutely hate cauliflower, but that is stunning art. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 But at least it doesn't flood repeatedly every winter. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I have weed patches that resemble lawns if I've just mowed them. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I have a lot less grass than you, but I can mow the back lawn, the rose garden, and the front parking strip on less than one battery. You might consider the 348 V since it has power wheels. They also have some new models I don't know anything about. This technology is moving fast. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Love my Stihl mower. You're going to be so happy with the switch. We have the RMA348 which allows you to load 2 batteries. Bought the mower first, then the chain saw which I've been using every day to clear the creek, and have my eyes on the pole hedge trimmer. Definitely prefer battery powered. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 ok npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I'm planning on running them up to Food for People tomorrow. I can stop by tomorrow on my way. What would be a good time? npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Would you like some cucumbers? Weren't you mentioning your daughter loves them? Just harvested a ton for the food bank today. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Can anyone identify this plant? I forgot to record it in my gardening database, and Seek can only identify it as a dicot, which isn't really very helpful at all. #bloomScrolling https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/117/107/494/866/698/592/original/08b3aa5658cb313e.jpg npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Wish we had cardinals here. I've always liked them since choosing Indiana (home of the Indianapolis 500) as the state to do my 5th grade report on. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 The orange one we bought earlier this year. The yellow one is the latest addition. We’re still waiting for Lori’s pink one to start blooming. It’s way behind and is the one I would have given up on if not for your advice. We’ve been growing our collection of potted plant to hide the septic tank so we’ll be adding more I’m sure. https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/117/015/269/697/595/229/original/62f259d124315669.png npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 At least the onions were a success this year. We will have plenty to donate to the food bank again. #gardening https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/116/999/946/134/603/193/original/77389f1ca20f86f7.jpg npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 She does look pretty happy. I see the corn patch is doing well too. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 That's pretty crazy. I'm trying to picture what happened next. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Was that for training, because they were short personnel or was that just a normal part of paramedic duties? Seems a pretty crazy thing to ask a paramedic to do. Both stressful, but two entirely different skill sets. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 My heart goes out to anyone who can do that job. I had to spend time in 911 dispatch as part of my EMT training and it took me about 30 seconds of watching them to realize I could never cut it. Thank you for doing that job as long as you did. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 As a volunteer fireman, I had to help perform CPR on a friend who it turned out had an aortic aneurism. He didn't even make it to the hospital even though we were there two minutes after the call came in. We performed CPR until the ambulance arrived 10 minutes later, but he was declared dead on the floor. One of the worst days of my 15 year career. It was also another reminder that CPR rarely ends up with a success like it does on TV. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 @npub15w9…2huq warned me that dahlias take forever to open, but really? 2 weeks of waiting? I'm glad it was worth the wait. This is the third time I've planted dahlias and the first time I've actually had one survive long enough to bloom. So, progress. #bloomScrolljng #dahlia https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/116/813/877/385/429/281/original/97a553f5b7e89850.jpg npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 That power outage was ill timed. I had one more cut to make to finish the foundation of my next raised bed. Did get the foundation done after it came back on but lost most of the afternoon because I couldn't start laying the walls until the foundation was done. Maybe I'll finish that project tomorrow. Your talk of blueberries inspired me to finish that long delayed project because that's what that bed is planned for. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I get tired of clicking on bridged links where I have to be logged in to read it. What's the point of bridging if I still need a Bluesky account to read their content? npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 After 4 days of work, the greenhouse is cleaned inside and out, and everything has been moved back in and reorganized. Ready for getting my vegetable seeds going. The plum tree makes it look even prettier. It's always the first of our fruit trees to bloom. Still have a lot of weeding to do in the orchard and around the frog pond, but beautiful days like today make it enjoyable to work out in the yard. #gardening #greenhouse https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/116/213/290/949/321/677/original/8c3f92ac3f9a12dc.jpg npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Just got back from another beautiful, peaceful protest in Eureka. Thanks to the Magat driver of the coal burning 4x4 who thought he'd show us how manly he was by doing a burnout and filling the intersection with black smoke. Right in front of a Eureka Police car that he didn't notice. Hope he enjoys paying for that ticket. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 This is George doing what he does best, taking an afternoon nap out in the yard. This is one of his favored spots, a bench I made from a couple of the old pillars from Fernbridge. When I put them there in 2017, they were about 15 feet from the creek. They are now slowly sinking into the creek along with the rest of the bank. Who knows, thousands of years from now maybe some archeologist will dig them up from under 20 feet of mud and will spend his afternoon pondering how a part of Fernbridge ended so far upstream on a tributary. https://files.sfba.social/media_attachments/files/115/907/299/107/362/773/original/d266e6e6960210ef.jpg npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 If I was going to build a modest house, it would likely take longer than 9 months to decide what I want, have plans drawn, get the permits and financing before I could ever raze the existing building on the lot. Yet Trump just took an excavator and ripped the side off of the most historic and secure residence in the U.S. with apparently no oversight whatsoever. #NoKings npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 A quick search found that it was horchata that we found so delicious, with strawberries added to the mix. You may already be familiar with it but I'll include the recipe here in case others want to try it. Ingredients 6 cups unsweetened rice milk ½ cup sugar 1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 vanilla bean or 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract Throw that into a blender along with the optional strawberries and pour over ice. I wouldn't have thought to mix strawberries and cinnamon, but it ends up they go pretty well together. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Crescent City is the last place you want to be during a tsunami warning. Due to the shape of their harbor they always get hammered. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 One of the nice things about working in the garden on a beautiful sunny Sunday in #Ferndale is that the town sets of their fire whistle promptly at noon to remind you it's time to go inside for ice cream. #humboldt #gardening npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I use the Seek app. It works for plants and animals, and best of all it is free. It's been invaluable for identifying all of the insects I see in our yard, and now I also know the names of most of the weeds growing here too. But it comes in really useful when you're out and about and you see a plant you really like that you've never seen before and have no idea what it is. I've made many trips to Miller Farms having identified the plant I want to own. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 So pretend you're looking for a plumber and you happen to drive by a plumber's truck in your neighborhood. They have their web site listed on the side of their truck. Would you rather have remember mycityplumber.com or 135.181.044.050? I can remember a 7 digit phone number. Plus, no more shared hosting. Along with the problems others have mentioned. There's a reason domain names were invented in the first place. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Business has been slow in the old barbershop. Even with insurance, we were left with $7K out of pocket. All because they quit making the batteries after 10 years and like all rechargeable batteries, they eventually have to be replaced. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I'm embarrased because I thought the post was from @npub15w9…2huq who is local. Gorgeous. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 As the rain continues on and on, we've been battling ants all over the house. Kitchen, bathrooms, sunroom, bedroom they're everywhere. But they just escalated the war to an unacceptable level. They had the nerve to invade our gumball machine that is filled with M&M's. How dare they! Is nothing sacred? npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Waltz's worse fumble was not locking down the chat so only the admin had the ability to add new members. According to the screen shot in Jeffrey's latest article, he had the ability to add new members, and anyone he added would have had the ability as well. We're damn lucky this didn't spiral out of control. Could have been the first set of war plans to go viral. #signalgate npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I was going to try to read the Book of Mormon one time, and I got as far as the introduction before I realized this was some real bat shit crazy writing and I gave up. It's amazing to me that you can walk around with the world's knowledge in your pocket right now and still believe what Joseph Smith wrote. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 That's the downside of following @npub15w9…2huq Thank god they haven't invented Scentovision for the web yet. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Oh man, our yard is so soggy. I had a pair of electricians here Monday, and I felt so sorry for them because it was pouring rain the whole time, it's a lake under the house, and it was freezing cold to boot. I usually do my own electrical but I was glad to not be wading around under the house for this one. If you ever need electrical, call Greenbelt. They were outstanding. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Still waiting for that asshhole to send all this water south like he promised. There’s going to be major cleanup required in the yard again. #floods #Ferndale npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 I get so many weeds every year due to the constant flooding from the creek in the backyard. Doesn't matter if we put bark down over landscape cloth, they still come right back. I have a feeling that's how I'll be spending my retirement. It could be a full time job just keeping the horsetails under control. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Elon Musk thinks he's worth a $56B pay package. Tesla has 140,000 employees in the U.S. That's $400K per employee he's stealing. It also works out to $35K per Tesla automobile made in the U.S. this year. So if you buy Tesla's cheapest model, 75% of your monthly payment is going directly to Elon, while the other 25% goes towards paying the factory workers, buying parts and supplies, and keeping the factory running. #EatTheRich npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Read an article that mentioned there are around 750 billionaires in the U.S. That got me thinking and I did some math. Using a list from Forbes, if we passed a law that that made it illegal to be a multi-billionaire, 600 people would have to forfeit their vulgar excess to a collective total of 5.8 trillion dollars. And still, each and everyone of them would have more money than they could spend. A billionaire can spend $100K a day just from interest at 4%. With $5.8B we could distribute $8.9M to every homeless person in America. So yeah, taxing the rich could solve our homeless problem. #EatTheRich npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 When I renovated one of our bathrooms I did a total gut and found a couple of dead animals in the walls. If you have an old house with balloon framing they can get into the walls. Sometimes you just have to wait it out and hope it was something small. Occasionally one of our cats lose an outdoor toy in the house and a couple of times the rodents found very clever places to hide before finally succumbing to their injuries. One time I found a dead mouse in one of my fire boots as I was rushing to a call. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Watching the willows outside my window and wondering how they can be that flexible. I would be less worried if they had dropped their leaves already. I hope Summer can be as contented inside as our cats are today. Even my wife’s cat who normally ignores me is sleeping on my chest. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Thanks. Didn't even know Stihl had battery powered models. npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 Such a good helper and so multitalented. Box squisher, debri hauler, lap warmer, etc. I've been thinking about a battery powered chainsaw to cut fallen trees in our creek. What did you buy? npub1v7zxap4uzq5lvn88f99yc8h952a372z56gjvc6tdddtjd82rsh0speyr9k 955_36 The clothes are just going to get dirty again anyways.
