I worked all my life in IT, since I was 19 years old making webpages and programs in Visual Basic 6 for the hotel my dad worked in.
On January of this year I got laid off.
After learning most AWS and in particular Kubernetes, deeply, what I'm trying to say is, including super high degrees of auditory and security levels, due to in all my searches getting an offer from the treasury of the US to work for them and they asking for Linux audit FedRAMP level (I had no idea what those words meant), training weeks non stop on all this, learning more in a span of 4-5 months what I would learn in, IDK, in 2~ years, while non stop pushing useful projects to my github (github.com/leokasion) thinking that would really impact my chances of getting higher chances on websites like LinkedIn or Indeed, having literally around 15-20 interviews via Meet, MS Teams, and/or Zoom in 4-5 months, *breathes*, as you, I realized thanks to a friend from literally this board that I don't want to work anymore in corporate IT -nor in IT at all.
I still enjoy coding and developing for me, for the projects I enjoy advance little by little, some OpenGL here, some GameMaker there, some Java for a mobile app here.
But here's what I differ from you, I'm at an age that I know what I like, what I hate, and what I love. I want to try different things. Try to get into some type of work that demands some degree of physical labor; like working in a bakery, or as private security guard, anything I can get -and I have to hurry because I'm at the age limit to get those jobs. My physical health is perfect, but after you're 40 years old, it's though to start from scratch, specially in a job you don't know, which for me are all of them except IT.
If you left corporate IT, you know as well as I, how poisoned that well is, that the current way industry manages things it's unsustainable and even many more jobs will get lost. And the funny thing is, mostly not because AI.
I know exactly what you said. I wanted to explain my current situation in this thread, too.
And when I say I would love getting a job as a librarian, I imagine that would be the case since I was little I never had many friends, and books and videogames had to do. From printing the OpenGL Red book manual to read in the roof of my house at 14 years old, to read Meditations on the tablet in the little couch of my apartment nowadays. I love books (in all forms), and because of my younger cousins and other younger people I know from internet, I can see how new generations mostly don't like don't to read -which is a trend which I think will get back to baseline, and realize the satisfaction of being part of a friendship only via pen pals.
Last but not least, sorry for how much I extended this post.

@nprofile…72y8 have you tried right click on the bottom bar, show panel configuration, set position, and move it to your left or right? it can feel weird, but that's the default of MX Linux on XFCE, and once you get used to it it the same as comfortable as a panel below, and I would add it's faster because moving the mouse to the sides... IDK, felt faster for me

ahh I deleted my post because I'm an idiot!
Anyway I pretty much said I loved coming from school and playing Civ 1 on my first home, where I could open the huge windows that led to the patio where no one would bother, and have the fresh air of Spring or/and Summer circulating, while feeling that calmness Civ 1 gave (because it had little music, no music at all on the map).
I kept playing later with a dear friend from IRC, we played easily twice per week (I'm talking 7-8 years later after I played Civ1 on DOS)

@nprofile…le9r I understand what are you talking about -that's how games used to be and everyone was happy; when fandoms over videogames began reaching social media it was all over, and companies realized this and stopped selling their games with things like a manual; some rare still do having digital manuals when you "purchase" the game, which is better than no manual at all. They want to get rid of physical copies now... I honestly doubt that's gonna happen with consoles, companies are gonna lost all the sales of small children seeing the plastic box of the game when going outside with mama or papa.
I hate spoilers but the games I like are so niche (Disgaea, Magical Princess, CRPG like Pillars of Eternity, Tides of Numenera) that thankfully it's very rare that someone will spoil them.
So, try to not look up nor talk about Undertale at all on internet if you are enjoying it until you have finished at least once.

I remember back in my teens when IRC was full of life and friendly and interesting people, we had to make the most of those hours being connected -then came ADSL, but still things were somewhat ok.

@nprofile…9683 @nprofile…8cpz about the boot partition, 512MB sounds a waste of space, but I think I must be confusing this with the EFI partition, because I made it of 16MB on /dev/sda2 because /dev/sda1 was suddenly "corrupted", and that amount of space was a lot.
Continuing about the topic, you *should* run sudo apt autoremove (or autoclean - I honestly don't remember the difference right now) - oh wait that doesn't remove old kernels I think...
it doesn't, because MX Linux comes with a tool for exactly that, remove old kernels from the boot partition... but isn't the partition where the BIOS checks first? I'm so confused right now.
Anyway, I will use this post to tell you I applied to a job at Canonical once and they made me have an interview with an AI that would skip questions if you wouldn't begin to reply after 3 seconds (each question) -it was so annoying that I let her keep asking to see what were the questions. Mostly about AppArmor and Snap.

@nprofile…qd0z @nprofile…4m0l @nprofile…y2u6 @nprofile…cext @nprofile…3udv I don't know about the adrenaline system, that's too broad; Caffeine works blocking Adenosine which indirectly boosts lovely Dopamine but more importantly (or less importantly but something that affects much more) it's increasing Norepinephrine -this is not new, there are antidepressants called SNRI (Serotoning Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors) that also works doing the same. Norepinephrine it's kind of a "dirty" chemical because it's the main cause of seizures in humans, UNTIL it helps indirectly boost Dopamine (which some fags doctors -I don't have anything against gays, on the contrary, I'm just using the word fags doctors because they are "afraid" of people having a boost a Dopamine), that's why you can't instead of Coffee (which I love it) can't instead/also go to a doctor and ask for a Modafinil prescription, the cleanest nootropic we have discovered so far that boost plenty of Dopamine and over time, like for 8-10 hours.

now, a decent source of Magnesium can change your day for the better a lot though, it makes me wonder how not more food and drinks comes with Magnesium - classic pills are not the best way to take it, it has a very low bioavailability, I would recommend capsules, those that made of gelatin that literally "opens" when they get in the stomach.

Every day I wake up and look for wagie jobs but since I'm old no one calls me, and I got tired of being rejected as SRE Cloud Engineer or some BS title companies make these days.
Point is, I know how precious it's life, but even Marcus Aurelius said that when man lost any meaningful thing to live, suicide was a form of finishing his pain, and therefore should not be taken as someone who was coward (in that time it was seen like that)

@nprofile…le9r it was definitely something special, it grasped so many of us instantaneously. I think we were beginning to get too comfortable with games telling what to do and where to go. This was so different, so trippy, there were so many things to discover. I still remember the weird shapes, the sounds of the Yume Nikki walking, when you finally get the bike, and of course, of the ending.
I think the closest to a fascination game like that I ever felt again was Undertale (which was NOT made in RPG Maker, but GameMaker, another completely different engine). But remained the style almost as if it would have been made with the former, though some parts like the "action/Touhou" scenes would have been impossible.
Omori didn't catch me fully, and the little I have tried of the demo of Deltarune left me confused. I heard you got to be involved with the community to understand the later so I think I'll sadly pass it, even though I love Toby Fox tunes.

Windows 11 it's really good, I had no problem with it. I have been using it for 1 months more or less. I had to use some software to "clean it" and make it look like Windows 10, the bar at least.
But I'm very sorry, I don't feel it natural, I open a terminal and I expect a terminal, not a command line, even if PowerShell copied a lot of POSIX commands.
I need to install Linux. I backed up the few things I needed, gonna try Fedora 44 KDE.

@nprofile…cl2r @nprofile…88vs saying Reimu would be a good mother mainly because of GUILT. She couldn't stand not doing "the right thing", even if when she finds her child incredibly annoying. She would invite people who she usually finds bothersome, only to left her child at the care of her "friend" and have some time for herself.
I think Yukari is the only one who could straight her to realize how important is to be a good mother all the time, and not because she feels guilty. Same as with the incidents -at some point she doesn't care anymore, but she keeps working on them because she knows it's her duty, and her best friend will go on her own. That makes her feel GUILTY.

Maybe I'm phrasing the name wrong, but I remember in the subs, she being named Chika. I can't find a single pic of her, and the girl in the cover of your new "light" novel it's really very very close.

My AI interview was bad -not as bad as I imagined, but bad enough. This "Zora" that I had to answer to, spoke and expected answers at a inhuman cadence. Aside from me not talking English natively, even if I did, after each question, if you would be more than 2~ seconds in silence, it automatically skipped the questions and go to the next (I assume it marks the question as not answered). Super frustrating.
Still, I did 6/10 in my honest opinion.

Waiting for Aki to finally reach South America so the sun and its blindingly strong rays subside to let her settle down for a few months.
Leaves change to autumn colors—dark green, charcoal, then brown. Many die and fall to the ground, while winter creeps in and Letty does her lazy patrolling.
The trees wait until the next spring for new, young, light green leaves to take their place, when Lily White will already be playing around. And later, the scorching sun will begin its attack again. But that... that is left for Yuuka’s enjoyment.

@nprofile…le9r I find the lesser research on Greek culture sad and oddly interesting. My grandmother had Greek books, plates, and even an ancient mechanical clock.
I didn't appreciate these "relics" enough until I grow up and became interested in my ancestry, by that time they got lost when she passed away. At least I was aware sometimes and have some pictures.
I feel as if modern culture not only does not care about Greek history, texts and scripts, but if these can be forgotten, it would be better for some group of people. Can't help but make me a little sad.

Next week, we'll have holy night (December 24th) on a Wednesday, and the next week after that, it we'll be the last day of 2025.
Crazy how a good chunk of us are still here despite such a year -maybe I'm the "new" one though, I registered this account on 2023 from what I can gather, coming from cawfee.club.
