I can’t compared, but I can relay that the local community here found a few nice abandoned places with many gaps to fly our drones through, freestyling is definitely not dead here! There are some quarries too where some are doing big dives too.

I had a friend that is a bit of a Linux wizard that kept insisting I should try it. So, I gave it a try and discovered this social is somewhat more raw, smaller than others, which to me meant there is an easier opportunity to form genuine connections with real people at a larger scale here than other socials.
My actual goal here is to make connections with cool people and eventually perhaps meet up with those in person at some point.

My only issue with the JRC-1000 is our screen is pretty dim and I really struggle to see. Boat came with a lot of other old not well functioning instruments.
I've mostly swapped out all my transducers and instrument displays for modern Raymarine and using Orca & Navionics tablet apps for our chartplotting.
In theory we could get a Quantum radar, connect it to the NMEA OneNet network we've got and the Orca app should be able to overlay it which means we'd have radar at the helm.

Because my fiance and I do a lot of solo sailing (one sails, the other rests), anything that's only at the navdesk usually won't get used in my experience which is unfortunate.

I hear you! My sail boat has a old JRC-1000 radar on it and I'm really tempted to swap it out, the display is at the navdesk which I obviously can't use at the helm. 😅

Even with 90s technology, stuff like radar would have been on an ugly LCD screen that someone had to use at the navdesk or plot where they were on a map using GPS coordinates and that was a pain even then!

The seas between #NorthernIreland and #RathlinIsland are known to be treacherous, poor visibility... I got to sample a bit of the idea when approaching Northern Ireland from Rathlin and the island was completely cloaked by fog, however as I got closer, some of the fog started rolling down the cliff and you could start distinguishing the land was there. Imagine if this wasn't optimal weather...

I've been training for this, years of playing on the original Gameboy DMG-01 has prepared me for this day, I can read a barely visible #dotmatrix display.
This is a 90s #marine #radar system, very battery hungry and you have to sit at the navdesk to use it and call out information to the skipper.

#ThePortpatrickHotel is enormous and overlooks a good chunk of #Portpatrick in #Scotland and their protected harbour. Boats commonly have to raft up with each other as there isn't sufficient dedicated room for each vessel. I captured this after I arrived that evening while it was getting dark.

I spent ages trying to find this bird in a tree, I could hear it, it was so loud and it was so tiny. I probably circled the tree four times before I managed to see it.
I think this is a #robin ? It just has a much smaller patch of white plumage than I expect of a robin though.
