I had a friend that is a bit of a Linux wizard that kept insisting I should try it. So, I gave it a try and discovered this social is somewhat more raw, smaller than others, which to me meant there is an easier opportunity to form genuine connections with real people at a larger scale here than other socials.
My actual goal here is to make connections with cool people and eventually perhaps meet up with those in person at some point.

My only issue with the JRC-1000 is our screen is pretty dim and I really struggle to see. Boat came with a lot of other old not well functioning instruments.
I've mostly swapped out all my transducers and instrument displays for modern Raymarine and using Orca & Navionics tablet apps for our chartplotting.
In theory we could get a Quantum radar, connect it to the NMEA OneNet network we've got and the Orca app should be able to overlay it which means we'd have radar at the helm.

Because my fiance and I do a lot of solo sailing (one sails, the other rests), anything that's only at the navdesk usually won't get used in my experience which is unfortunate.

I hear you! My sail boat has a old JRC-1000 radar on it and I'm really tempted to swap it out, the display is at the navdesk which I obviously can't use at the helm. 😅

The seas between #NorthernIreland and #RathlinIsland are known to be treacherous, poor visibility... I got to sample a bit of the idea when approaching Northern Ireland from Rathlin and the island was completely cloaked by fog, however as I got closer, some of the fog started rolling down the cliff and you could start distinguishing the land was there. Imagine if this wasn't optimal weather...

really impressive and I'm still wrapping my head around the logistics of managing such an operation. It's hard enough managing a site on land, never mind at sea.
On average how long could a crew member expect to be working on her before returning to land?

The ship #SeaRoseFPSO originally built by #Samsung and owned by #Canadian integrated energy company #CenovusEnergy under goes a refit in #Belfast. Too big for Canadian drydocks. We have one of Europe's largest heavy engineering facilities, deep water access, two of Europe’s largest drydocks and vast fabrication halls.
