But the main thing about LLMs is their output is never great or innovative - it’s just acceptable and mid. That’s perfectly ok for most web dev jobs out there because, let’s be honest, enterprise software, SaaS, PaaS etc. is incredibly boring. Then again, paycheque.

At work it’s basically impossible, so I’m challenging myself on personal projects. I read an article recently about avoiding frameworks and abstractions and work on a lower level for that and it does feel different. I was always a polyglot dev so it feels refreshing to forego Ruby and JS and code some Go or Rust for a while. I’ve been doing this for a long time though (30 years altogether) so I’m both jaded and opinionated about many, many things.

I’m forced to used it for coding at work. I’m not going to lie, it can be very effective and a time saver for boilerplate and tests. Having said that I definitely feel disconnected from the codebase. I used to be able to answer questions about features I worked on very easily because I exercised those brain muscles. That’s not the case for wholly of partially LLM-coded features.
