Hey howdy there from Texas. I'm certainly wired, generally positive, and with a thousand interests in need of clones to pursue them... but we'd probably just start a book club instead of take over the world. As long as there is coffee, my pets, books, music, and Nintendos around... life is better than "meh." Go Texans! Go Rockets! Sports have been fantastic lately and I can't believe I've missed so much!

Last Notes npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally This is straight out of the Gestapo playbook right here. Can we finally call ICE what it has become already?! npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Ah yeah, the distraction mess. And then people complain that stores look untidy and messy... employees aren't the ones ripping packaging open, folks, and if that happens enough, prices go up even more because they can't sell ripped up items unless they go to clearance (and they'll sit there for ages because nobody wants to rifle through opened and re-taped packs of underwear... it's the hygiene ick factor.) I despise thieves and when I worked seasonal retail, I'd get so mad cleaning up discarded packaging that someone would try to hide in different departments. We had a medium sized packing box in Kohls for broken or missing items in early November. The week before christmas, there were shopping carts full of busted packaging and broken stuff (the toy section was the worst, always busted packaging and missing items so you knew the parents just left the kids there to play while they shopped and treated it like a daycare, and probably knew their kids had stolen things). Nowadays, when kids make a mess or bust something, parents just grab their kids' hand and hurry out of the store; no punishment or anything. Whatever happened to teaching kids not to touch everything, especially if you're not gonna buy it? My parents would've made me help clean up while she watched. As far as stealing goes, when I was 4 or 5, I actually did swipe a candy bar and she found out at the truck. She put the groceries away and marched me right back into the store to apologize to the cashier and give it back. I damned sure never thought of doing it again. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally https://youtube.com/shorts/IdRK6Arw3sg?si=PJMaURgEnZ-_wZEn npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally The fun part is when your water is so bad and your budget is so low that you fill the reservoir in 10 seconds, only to watch the water drip through the filter and end up with an inch in one hour. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I've been on the "build your own" page playing with the specs for the last hour. For some reason, I'm partial to the Lemonade Stand exterior and Electric Blue panels inside (then again, my home furniture collection looks like a crayon box threw up because I like a crazy color palate, so it's par for the course). npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Want, want, want. If it has actual knobs and buttons more than stupid touchscreens, and if I could paint it yellow or green, I'll be saving like hell for it. I love my hatchback Versa, but gotta admit time's gonna do it's thing to it eventually (hopefully it'll last another 200K miles safely and efficiently so I can save up for another vehicle and not get gutted). npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Yesterday became weird after the phone screen. I got a lengthy list of things to complete and send back by morning for that contract position. It's 20 hrs/wk to assist developmentally disabled young people in the workforce. Like tutoring again, but with more movement & less worksheets. Then my phone notified me of a scheduled interview for service advisor. They'd cancelled without notice weeks ago & suddenly it's back. Never saw that happen before. I'm interviewing for that one in a couple hours & do the other's paperwork this evening because I took a hard look at my finances. Though the first job needs my existing skillset w/ some minor training to fill the gaps, it won't be enough financially for long. Double hours + weekends for serving shifts would tire me out, but I'd earn FAR more. I could use the training to get a job closer to home in a couple years, too (they only interview experienced folks). I'd keep being frugal & rapidly pay for back taxes & home repairs. Two jobs would swallow available handyman time, but OTOH, I'd have the money to get help on my days off if needed. DAMNED REALITY CHECK! OH CRAP: I'd applied for multiple positions at that repair location & saw they're interviewing me for the service advisor/manager position, NOT a regular one. Shit, I swore I wouldn't do management again! Hopefully they just reused the other application to re-schedule & get basic info on me. I have too much to learn to learn management's job, too. I don't usually like "bait-and-switch" tactics, but I'm actually praying for it here & that it's actually just a basic position so I can learn the ropes. Of course, the pay would be FAR better as manager, but I calculated the service advisor rate & would be fine there with less stress than as a manager. The pay-rate for a service advisor's still worth the shot, so I'd jump on it... just this once. Fingers and toes crossed. Need protein & meditation stat! npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally That was an episode that made your face go from incredulous and irritated to sobering at the end. Constant hate and then the last two go back to the planet and as they're chasing each other, you get transparent footage of burning buildings superimposed on them. Logical conclusion: total destruction. That one hit you over the head petty badly. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally He and Scotty got into it often regarding alcohol, plenty of Vodka vs. Whiskey debates. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I was just about to write a very pissed-off reaction to getting ghosted on job offer calls, and got half a sentence in when the phone rang. Short phone screening and I've got the application and background check coming in my inbox tomorrow. It's contractual, but the best thing about it is I can work my serving job on the weekends and after five weeks if they like me, they'll be able to pick up my contract. That's the good part. The bad part is two hours earlier I got notified that my homeowner's insurance was gonna be cancelled in the next few days. I had to make a decision between paying for that or my internet and electricity. I thought I'd be in better shape but got ghosted by recruiters and interviewers. I hate this "getting my hopes up" crap, only to be disappointed. What sucks most is if I get the money in the next 30 days, I can reapply for a new plan, but it's gonna be jacked up in price, so I'm in the same position, anyway. My mobile home was grandfathered in under some kind of clause and the new one won't be. So yeah, just bad luck this June. I think I'm gonna have to add boxing training to my workout plans so I can really tackle this frustration properly. At least I've got a few weeks' relief and hopefully do a good enough job that I can take care of business effectively. Better than nothing, because I've had just a smidge above nothing for years now. And if I get an early shift, I can still be available to serve at a late shift and earn more. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I'm guessing they were the cause of at least one of those prehistoric global warming events npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Same. my front yard is at 3.5 inches, but it gets more attention and isn't as wild. My back yard I make short movements with the mower deck all the way up. Because of those gouged-out areas, once I'd made some progress, I probably looked like I was riding a bucking bronco going back over those areas to smooth them out a bit. Not at a low setting. I'm just clearing the brush; I'll finesse it later. But some of the weeds are those woody-stemmed ones because I couldn't cut them down sooner, so I'm gonna have to get my weed whacker on some and my chainsaw on the rest. And I have to be careful because I had a long garden a few feet behind my house and the barrier got uprooted and pieces buried or flung several feet away. Don't want my mower blades kinked to hell running over unusual stuff. Damned pigs! npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I have dogs and parakeets, and my dearly departed cat was 90% outdoor (never declawed for her own protection) because one of my dogs would've chased her down and hurt her in the house. But when my dogs went out on the tether lines to pee and hang out and get pet by neighbors, I'd let her in while I was journaling or taking care of online stuff. She loved laying next to me and jumping on my high bookshelves to observe everything. And she eventually learned not to try to eat my parakeets or fish, so that was nice. Sweetest thing ever and a great workout buddy. But someday another will come. I'm not going to rush it because I'd prefer to be chosen rather than choose. Those cats stick around and want your love; I don't want to impose it on them. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I miss my cat, but I've been watching the neighbor's cats (who really like me when I come over) practice their hunting skills in my backyard. It's been overgrown to hell for a year and I've been whittling away at it and need to cut around the house for my own safety (and help get rid of the rodents who've gotten FAR too comfortable coming to the house). Put some dental catnip treats on the porch that they can nab if they want. I'm totally cool with them hunting out there... heaven knows I'd rather they do it than I find some terrible surprise when I have to walk around with the weed-whacker later. And as much as I wouldn't mind being blessed by the Cat Distribution System again, I do hope they hold off a few months til I get some financial stability in me and can afford their food and care. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Or worse, when friends/family hear your story and say "They're not like that, you're just being sensitive." and tell the person about what you said behind your back. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Lovely plants and cute pup. I get you about the dew. I need to keep mowing so bad, but my grass is so overgrown that I'd get bogged down thanks to the dew. Hope I make some progress this evening on cutting around my house more because I heard we're supposed to get several days of rain, maybe a little tonight (and my weeds have grown several feet near my deck and need some care for mine and my pets' safety. I'd cut down the weeds and grass enough yesterday that I found my neighbor's cat at the edge of the tall grass. The neighbors' cats have definitely been honing their hunting skills in that jungle I had back there. I'm keeping my back 3/4 of an acre wild as I can for the wildlife (got a couple trees knocked down during Hurricane Beryl that I'm just gonna work around and let rot where they are; help the ecosystem). npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally CEOs who approve of and push for dynamic pricing and have those price tags on the shelves that change abruptly each day or even multiple times a day, or digital menus that do the same, need to be sent to the Special Hell. You know, the one reserved for child molesters, and people who talk in the theater. https://media4.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPTc5MGI3NjExZmM0MmF2dTNuMDZkOXltMTN6dDhseHV0OHVmd3k3bWRtNnozaDNnNyZlcD12MV9pbnRlcm5hbF9naWZfYnlfaWQmY3Q9Zw/kSA7u0tUziLXq/giphy.gif npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Oh yeah, that would ruin a whole day or week easily: https://media.nerdculture.de/media_attachments/files/116/494/239/937/676/944/original/87b417163f817a49.mp4 npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally And when it's revealed, the cameraman's thumb was in the corner of every shot, or someone was mid-sneeze. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally May your shoes always be misplaced in the morning and you not realize it until you absolutely HAVE to leave the house right then. May your coffee order always be a little too cold, a little too sweet, or decaf when you need full caffeine for the day. May you forget to thaw out your protein for your evening meal and have to scramble for something else to make. I've got more, but for the harsher curses I'll add: May your foot be the first part of you that finds a stray LEGO on the floor every morning. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Okay, I forgot about this til it showed up in my likes list, and I had to listen a few times because it's so damned funny. Definitely can't judge a book by it's cover, or a band by it's genre... the audience helps decide! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5OLtoY70AI #spongebob #humor #metal #livemusic #slipknot #lol npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I've never played Pokemon anything and barely know anything about it... but right now, I think Shuckle is my spirit animal: https://youtu.be/KzZqxkkUHLc?list=PLDhKcCqsXoLllMYldsXG70EcZNP71sKQt #dorkly #pokemon #humor npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally When we did our relaunch, my location had qr codes on stickers in the bowling area & concessions lobby. They worked fine for the kitchen, but the bar had no clue where the drinks were going or who ordered them, and if they wanted popcorn or cokes from the concessions, that never printed out anywhere. So we would have to get them to open up their order so we could see what they'd pay for, write it down, and go get it. Our system was terrible; we hated it because we knew most were using it just to avoid tipping the bartender or us servers (and some folks don't tip anyway, so it was like "whatever." The owners kept saying they were fixing them for months, but when the kids just started peeling the QR stickers off and playing with them, managers didn't replace them anymore & they all disappeared in a couple weeks. Nobody complained, not even the customers because they were tired of it taking twice as long to get their orders. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Oh man, a library would be my dream job because I love books. I'd definitely have to take some walking breaks, though (at least to grab another book--hee hee) I know, you guys can't just read everything you want, you've got other duties. I like where I do serving because the place is fun, the co-workers are fun, and most of the guests are, too. It's pretty relaxed because folks go to bowl or watch movies or visit the arcade, so they're usually not in a hurry to get the food (unless they're going straight into a movie, then it's like rush rush rush!) It's funny because I used to call myself a talkative introvert, but perhaps my extrovert side just comes out at work. Makes sense since it's about 90% of my sociability right there. The rest of the time I'm like "don't wanna talk a few hours" npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Yeah, probably why I gravitate toward food service and customer service jobs. Retail can be hit or miss because it's often too frustrating, but I like keeping busy and learned if I walk around enough and keep busy, I am just crazy happy. My feet might hurt at the end, but they're a sign that it's been a heckuva day. I just can't sit still on the job anymore; I gotta move around all the time. I sit when I'm in the car going home (hee hee). npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Anh, too bad I hate computers. I'd hang onto my current job if I liked them more, but my mistakes create too much anxiety. I've figured out that even though at home I prefer being alone, on the job I become quite sociable. Guess that's my social outlet and my most irritating superpower is being the perky person who makes folks laugh and helps them out. But I can see the appeal of cyber security: makes you focus with dedication on a project in the moment and not let up. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Called out sick because I felt sick to my stomach just thinking about work today. I think that's a pretty big indicator that if I can't get my anxiety under control, I need to quit that new remote work job. I hate it because I studied and tried so hard to do it right, but the long hours and the constant feeling like I"m screwing up (and the myriad of things that can go wrong) have just shut me down. I am seriously feeling the need to quit and just go after a 2nd part-time job. If I'm lucky, maybe my serving job will give me full time hours the next few months. I'd LOVE that. But if not, there are plenty of jobs hiring for summer help coming soon, and I wanna be part of that. I feel like I'm possibly doing something stupid, but if my fear of screwing up is in the driver's seat and I leave shifts shaky and upset with myself every day, what the hell good is it? Gonna journal this out: if I quit, I'll take the next few days cleaning my house and yard, & apply to a dozen jobs a day. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally QUESTION FOR ANYONE HERE WITH ADULT ADHD: What are some jobs you'd recommend for someone with ADHD? Also, what did you learn to look for when it came to job searches that made you stick around? CONTEXT: I needed a full-time job because my savings is dead & my part-time job didn't give enough hours. But right now, I'd rather go back to juggling 2 part-time jobs & no days off vs. another day of that WFH job. I just realized I can't tolerate too much sitting (anemia makes me sleepy, too), too much flipping between windows to fulfill order requirements, which overwhelms me because of the mistakes that multiply so I keep asking for help, etc. If I could get full-time hours & steady tips on the regular, I'd just have my serving job & build a side gig. The only downside is foot pain after a long shift, but I love constantly moving around & it lets me stay physically busy. SO, again, what did you learn to look for when it came to job searches that made you stick around? #ADHD #jobs npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Freaking awesome! Can be used for a ton of purposes, too, but it's cool to see a bunch of guys working together on hobbies and stuff outside of sporting events (that's about the only time I see teamwork emphasized when it comes to guys anymore). I love this. Need more of these vibes out there. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Addendum: Dear Star Trek Creators: Learn from the mistakes of one of your most successful rival-franchises and don't glut what should be a story-driven narrative with CGI just because you can. If it doesn't impact the real story and you just think it looks cool, then can it. There's a reason folks like me pretend Episodes 1-3 of Star Wars don't exist: sacrifice a comprehensible story with spectacle and you won't have longevity. Creators who forget that just end up chasing trends for short-term validation... and end up topping "worst of" lists as their legacy. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Beware the Peanut Butter Fish. Those two meet and mingle & they're gonna take over the world. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Life has hit hard the past 3 months; many ups & downs have kept me away. The big "up" was I got a full time WFH job. It would let me pay back taxes & fix my house, have savings again. 3 weeks of training & 3 days of sales calls. The big "down" is I already want to quit. I didn't realize how much I need jobs that keep me moving until I was stuck at my desk with a headset 8+ hours a day. My ADHD Brain hates needing to flip between a bunch of windows constantly to do the sales pitch, order processing, call transfers, etc. The calling software's the worst--no "how to" guides I can consult & the icons change in & out of calls, (clean desk policy, too, so no drawing diagrams on the fly) I get so few calls because mine take TWICE as long as others due to said issues, so I'm not hitting the numbers. If I can't improve, odds are I'll be removed by May 1st. But I'm so nerve-wracked that I don't care. My wallet protests, but I'd rather go back to working 2 jobs than 1 more day of this crap. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Prepping for the Texas storm. Always heard about making water pipes drip a little overnight to prevent them from freezing. Figured I may as well make those drips useful. https://nerdculture.de/system/media_attachments/files/115/956/951/364/960/845/original/b1d21ab6f971446f.jpg npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I couldn't get my generator serviced in time, but I'm prepped in case the power goes out. I'm gonna fill the bathtub with backup water (I have a well, & I'll put buckets of saved rainwater in the shower stall for flushing), cut the breakers to not-essential appliances/rooms, put blankets on the back of the bird cages and wheel them into the living room to share the fireplace with me and the dogs. It'll be lively if anything. I have 15 gallons of drinking water for me and the pets standing by, too. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally QUESTION: Should the Cat Distribution System bless me with a quirky rambunctious kitty, would it be wrong to name it Satan for fun? I admit I imagine walking with it outside & it goes too far or tries to mess with something not-good & I'd have the excuse to say "Get thee behind me, Satan!" npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally GOOOOOO TEXANS!!! npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally GO TEXANS!!! Sack Mahomes at least 5 times: once for each game we've lost against 'em since 2019. Minimize the penalties because you know he'll be howling for fouls, so sack him a bunch or run him out of bounds ASAP. Stop their run game and control the ball (kinda hard for Mahomes to do his schtick if he doesn't get the ball much, after all!). npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I am not gonna bother putting a tree up this year (no room and too much going on), but perhaps next year I'll find a tiny santa hat to put on my plushy Cthulhu doll and use THAT as the tree-topper. Or I'll attach my "Texans Santa" funko-pop doll somehow. The snowflake topper I had is finally starting to break apart & I am sick of angels (had so many growing up). I'm more for secular or whimsical decorations no matter the occasion. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I love this team, even if they get called the "Cardiac Texans" by folks who carefully watch (or join the watch parties for info) every week. I love that the team is evolving and improving a bit each week. It didn't feel like it the first few weeks as it was 1 step forward, 1 step back (mostly for the offense), but now it's getting better. Totally agree that if the offense keeps improving, we'll be in the playoffs and go farther than last year. Too much debate this season about who should be QB and all that mess, how bad things are, etc. But perhaps it's just the teacher/tutor in me: I'm not demanding perfection (injuries, play calls, ref calls, etc. prevent that anyway), just improvement. They're not coasting along, they're working hard, even after that disheartening start to the season. This whole season is a madhouse all across the league, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. Go Texans! npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally If I was in a "Beauty and the Beast" story, this would be my reaction... and probably the Beast's, too (brought to you by Punkey Doodles & audio from ZacSpeaksGiant: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/RFnPy7sa-mw #punkeydoodles #funny #fairytales #animated npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I haven't seen either of those (though have always wanted to see "The Conversation"), but yeah... just remembered it's December 1st. Time to dig out my "Ella Fitzgerald Wishes You a Swingin' Christmas" album while I do some chores tonight. It'll go perfect with this crummy cold outside (at least the wind died down... combine rain and wind down here and EVERYBODY starts getting sick) npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally The sky was blue-ish The grass was still green The Texans beat the Colts... Must take lots of practice to not make crucial missteps with the keyboard so you hit the right sequence every time. A typo could blow half your team away in an online game, I'm sure. Seriously, still a console gamer at heart, but can't get the hang of anything more complicated than an N64 (just too busy to try, too). I do have an x-box controller for Steam gaming, but I like my cartridges (and never get sick of the original "Perfect Dark") Still have my original N64 AND original SNES... and they still work fine (just have to get some extra cables to hook 'em up to the tv... not as good a picture as cathode ray TVs would have, but hey, still good playing. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Only had 1 cup of coffee so far, so I initially read that as "don't shine lasers at PLANETS", (figured maybe I'd missed some new articles on NASA measuring or communication tech). The first thought that popped into my head after I saw this was agreement... and then I said "yeah, who knows how many eyes you're gonna blind on some alien kid and their parents will wage war!" npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally PunkeyDoodles hits it out of the park with this illustrative short. The music, the moment... yeah, it deserves this treatment. The Christmas season is truly upon us. Hoping to see a major win today while I'm stuck at work come halftime and later (and I'm packing my cough drops because I'm anticipating lots of happy suppressed squealing due to incredible play. Got a major offensive team vs. one of the best defenses in the league... it's gonna be tough). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07aZJXSdC6A #houstontexans #indianapoliscolts #chatsports #NFL #livestream npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Matt Young wrote a great article about the Texans QB situation, one I referenced in my own blog post this morning. Seriously, fans, if the backup QB admits the starter is the starter for a reason, perhaps you should listen. Of course, this could be great humility on Mills' part, but like Stroud, he's a pretty humble and down-to-earth person. I appreciate all the players involved in my Houston Texans and how they're evolving together. It's been a roller coaster, but I'm so sick of fair-weather fans ready to jump off the ship the moment it springs a leak or two. Yeah, i have my own disappointments, but you gotta believe the team can make a turnaround, and if they don't before the clock strikes zero, then see how they work with those mistakes in the next game. But yeah, Matt Young had a great article from the Houston Chronicle about this: #NFL #houstontexans #CJStroud #DavisMills #quarterback #AmericanFootball https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/texans/article/davis-mills-backup-starter-cj-stroud-21198308.php npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Getting sick of the “Texans QB Controversy” question. My answer is NO! If anything, the Texans have created opportunities instead… Stroud is our franchise QB. Mills is our fantastic backup QB. Between the two of them, we have a lot of experience and skills to work with and a chance to really develop a better game. http://texantally.com/2025/11/22/getting-sick-of-the-texans-qb-controversy-question-my-answer-is-no-if-anything-the-texans-have-created-opportunities-instead/ npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Interesting how you call it a "gift". It occurred to me I have trouble accepting gifts, too. I'll give some out, but usually I just kinda do it slyly, like I leave it on someone's desk or something and walk off. It occurred to me over the years that my socialization skills are in the toilet. I don't know why I feel so uncomfortable getting things from people, and yet I want to be part of the basic human organism. It's like a battle between being a recluse again and getting out there and interacting. I liked doing volunteer work when I could afford it (and am looking for nonprofit charity jobs among other things), and yet here I am. It just doesn't make sense. I AM reading "Overcoming Anxiety for Dummies", so perhaps I'll have some tips and tricks in there to use to improve my social awareness and self-awareness. I really need to if I want to have any hope of getting a good-paying job til I find a way to work for myself. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally QUESTION FOR THE TECH SAVVY: What resources or advice would you recommend a total newbie to REMOTE WORK should try out (or get familiar with) before pursuing a remote work job? ATM, I don't have many tech skills at all & little software use beyond Word & Excel on the regular (I barely do formulas w/ Excel, either). During COVID when the whole planet was learning Zoom, I was stuck doing the background check/fingerprinting job (and then the app acted up & crashed on days I was SUPPOSED to train. Damn, I was cursed). I've done maybe 1 successful Microsoft Teams meeting for a job interview (took ages to set up; other interviewers either forgot or cancelled in favor of phone interviews last minute). No sending info online, no team collaboration, nothing. In short: I have no experience or clue where to start. But I WANT & NEED to learn if I have any hope in getting paying work soon. Anything you guys could recommend I should start with quickly (esp free stuff) would help. Thanks. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally On the track again, in all ways, in all the games of life… It's rather scary and amazing how easily you can lose track of the days and weeks when stress, sleep deprivation, illness, terrible diet, and single-minded fixation on problems combine. It's time to take control. http://texantally.com/2025/11/11/on-the-track-again-in-all-ways-in-all-the-games-of-life/ npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I guess it's just my nature not to understand their mindset. I've always been the helper, the caregiver type, so I could never understand how those in a privileged position could go "nah, I'm not supporting making lives of others with my gender/skin tone/culture better because I'm different than the rest of them." (Do they admit that "different" means "better than" to themselves, I wonder? Probably.) The great philosopher Spock said "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." Guess that's why I gravitated toward liberalism over the years as my knowledge of the wider world increased. The conservatives in my family have become so narrow-viewed, so hateful and tribal in a sense. I just can't understand being so against other folks having a better life, even if it's not your life or the path you would've chosen for yourself. Never could understand it. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally It was mainly the wealthy and affluent women who were against women's suffrage up to the vote. Guess they saw it as a threat to THEIR established order if they had the power to look beyond their pretty wallpaper and parties and husband's wealth. They saw tension coming into the household they ruled behind the scenes, and probably new expectations of them. What exactly, I don't recall because it's been ages since I studied women's history (and I'm poorer working class all the way)... but yeah, anything upsetting the established order is gonna be offensive to those who benefit the most from it. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I can't stand drugs and the smell, so I don't have to worry about that one. But whole bean dark roast coffee is my pricey vice, so I get the struggle in my own way. And my pets. My life would already be cheaper if I could sell half my parakeets. I need to work on that now. Feeding 38 birds is getting expensive. That would save me about $40 a month in food (seed and fresh greens) if I can pull that off (not to mention time saved cleaning up after them all). npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I've had that problem, too. My fave recipe is a black bean soup recipe that I'd modify over the years and if I tried to make it with dried beans, I always had WAY too many (forgot the beans swell double size after a soak), then had to try and compensate for it. I have to remind myself that I can always add, but can't subtract. Stick with the ratios and amounts that the recipes give you to start, then add more veggies and spices to taste if you want. Fresh herbs when you can, like parsley or cilantro can kick it up a notch. Bouillon or broth to boost flavor. I tend to find bean soups are a great way to use leftover meat that you can't figure out anything to do with (hence the ham-heavy ideas). And don't forget homemade bean burritos. You can go wild with bean salad wraps or bean burritos, depending on what else you would like in them (just don't overstuff it so it wraps nicely... I'm terrible at eyeballing proportions for those things). npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I'm only on level 8 on Duolingo. And I haven't done a deep dive in my "Spanish for Dummies" yet... it's gonna take a while. I'm a little better at Italian, though VERY rusty. Anybody wanna help me over there? I'll be happy to live on pasta, beans, good coffee, and wine the rest of my days. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally You know this gif was necessary now, right: https://nerdculture.de/system/media_attachments/files/113/562/551/125/165/603/original/e0a77d62c7e9ca6b.mp4 npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Oh shit, when you mentioned music, now I'm thinking of Christmas and somebody putting that awful rendition of "Feliz Navidad" on repeat until the racists explode. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally At this rate, The Dump is gonna have more random merch with his name on it than the Star Wars franchise. npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally (Texan here, uncomfortably eyeing the "Russian for Dummies" book on my shelf now, wondering if I should start reading it...hmm...) npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally Not entirely sure yet, but I know a lot of veggie or bean soup dishes will be a priority (I love soup when the weather gets cold). Tomorrow will be ham & split pea soup (never made it before, but I always see recipes & I have the stuff. Navy beans, ham, & cornbread were a staple growing up. Otherwise I'm playing with my frozen veggies & spice rack. Last soup I made was a ham & black bean variety with pumpkin to give it more fiber & stretch it out a bit. Was yum & I still have some pints in the freezer. Frozen or canned veggies, broth or beer, & my spice rack can make it interesting. One of the things I plan to do is make my own bean burger patties and freeze them (especially with the cheap pinto beans I got). I just want to find the best recipe so I can batch make and freeze a lot of them and the flavor's good. Got some fresh jalapenos I need to chop up soon, so I'm sure some of those will end up in the burgers (hee hee). npub1y5e4s0gqtj4tj9j476gx63jdyjx9am8t7f2g6t4zz0fnkg2nxpss3suugn Texan Tally I gotta admit, I did a bit of hording last night with my grocery shopping. Most folks were getting last minute Thanksgiving meal prep items (and I got a couple things I couldn't find last time myself). But because of my "no spend" year coming up, I figured I'd stock like mad on nonperishables. I got about 6 pounds of white & brown rice and 12 pounds of different beans, split peas, & lentils. And some of this stuff I ALREADY have, but I wanted to be able to see it so I could plan around it big time. I have so much ham left over from summer that's cut up and separated so I can grab a pound or two at a time, I could probably live of the soups and small meals I can cook with all this stuff. I am soon to be on a "beans and rice" budget, so I figure why not make it a bit more real? I realized it would be better for me to actually start my "no spend year" on a day when I won't leave the house or need to spend on anything by default, so win-win. It is a good mental reset move for me.
