QUANTUM THREAT SPARKS NEW BITCOIN DEFENSE PLAN
A powerful enough quantum computer could theoretically steal hundreds of billions in Bitcoin.
The dilemma is that sunsetting spending from addresses with exposed public keys could force dormant holders, including Satoshi Nakamoto, to either move their funds or risk losing access.
However, Dan Robinson has proposed a way around that.
Provable Address-Control Timestamps (PACTs) would let holders privately prove control of their keys using zero-knowledge proofs, without moving coins.
Holders would only need to timestamp knowledge of their keys before a quantum break, silently and efficiently.
A future upgrade could then allow a recovery path by verifying one of these timestamps.
This could preserve both security and privacy, buying time before any controversial protocol decision.

NEW BITCOIN FORK PROPOSED SET FOR AUGUST LAUNCH - EXERCISE CAUTION IF YOU PLAN TO DUMP THE AIRDROP
A new Bitcoin hard fork dubbed “eCash” is being developed by Paul Sztorc, with a planned release this August, introducing controversial changes and potential user risks.
Holders would receive a 1:1 split of their BTC on the new chain.
For example, 4.19 BTC would result in 4.19 eCash. Users can choose to sell, hold, or ignore the forked coins.
The project plans to initially replay transactions across both chains, though a coin-splitting tool is expected to be released to separate assets.
One of the most contentious elements is the proposed reassignment of a portion of Satoshi Nakamoto’s estimated 1.1M BTC (Patoshi coins) as a premine for investors on the new chain.
Sztorc argues this approach avoids a “zombie fork” by enabling early participation and funding, claiming a pure fork would limit coordination and increase the risk of developer capture.
⚠️ Users are urged to exercise extreme caution.
Transaction replay means activity on one chain could unintentionally affect funds on the other if coins are not properly split.
Sztorc clarified that replay risk would primarily flow from BTC to eCash, not the reverse.
However, splitting coins may require exposing private keys, introducing additional security risks.

Estimates for breaking full-scale keys have dropped sharply, with recent studies suggesting it could require as few as 10,000 to 500,000 qubits.

BELGIUM CENTRAL BANK WARNS “THE MONEY HAS RUN OUT” AS ENERGY RISKS MOUNT
Pierre Wunsch, Governor of the National Bank of Belgium, delivered a stark warning: Belgium no longer has the financial capacity to cushion another energy shock.
After deploying massive support during the 2022 crisis, fiscal space is now exhausted.

BlackRock just amended its S-1 for the iShares Bitcoin Premium Income ETF ($BITA).
Here's how it works:
The fund holds Bitcoin exposure through IBIT, BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF, then systematically sells call options on top of that position to collect premium income, which gets distributed to investors.
You get BTC exposure + a yield check.
However, you cap your upside in a rip.
In a flat or slow-grind market, you collect income.
In a vertical move, you leave gains on the table.
It's a covered call strategy, which is common in equity ETFs, now being applied to Bitcoin by the world's largest asset manager.
IBIT already holds $70B in BTC and $BITA is their next layer.
No fee or launch date announced yet but Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas puts the fee over/under at 38bps.

“LOST” 6,000 BTC IRISH WEED DEALER FORTUNE COMES BACK TO LIFE AS 500 BTC MOVES AFTER 10 YEARS
500 BTC tied to Irish drug dealer Clifton Collins has moved on-chain after nearly 10 years of being presumed lost.
Collins bought 6,000 BTC in 2011–2012 from the proceeds of growing and dealing weed, and split it across 12 wallets.
He stored the private keys on paper hidden inside a fishing rod case at a rental property in Galway, Ireland.
After his 2017 arrest, the house was cleared out and his belongings were sent to a landfill.
Authorities and Collins himself believed the keys were gone forever, with courts ruling the funds forfeited as criminal proceeds.
Tonight’s movement of 500 BTC suggests at least part of the stash may not have been lost after all.

SOFTWARE SUPPLY CHAIN NIGHTMARE: MALICIOUS LITELLM RELEASE EXFILTRATES KEYS, CLOUD CREDS, AND "STEALS MILLIONS IN CRYPTO"
A compromised version of the widely used Python package LiteLLM briefly hit PyPI, and a simple pip install litellm was enough to trigger full credential exfiltration across infected systems.
The malicious releases (v1.82.7 and v1.82.8) weaponized Python’s .pth mechanism, executing code on every interpreter startup, even without importing the package.
Impact was severe:
• SSH keys, cloud creds (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Kubernetes configs and cluster secrets
• API keys, .env files, CI/CD secrets
• Git credentials, database passwords
• Shell history and crypto wallets
All harvested, encrypted, and exfiltrated to attacker-controlled infrastructure.
LiteLLM sees ~97M monthly downloads, and the real risk came from transitive dependencies. Any project pulling it in, like pip install dspy, was also exposed, massively expanding the blast radius.
The attack was live for under an hour but discovered only due to a bug in the malware itself. A recursive fork bomb crashed a developer’s machine, revealing the compromise. Without that flaw, it may have persisted undetected for days or weeks.
The payload operated in three stages:
Collection: sweeping sensitive files, env vars, and cloud metadata
Exfiltration: AES-256 + RSA encrypted archive sent outbound
Persistence: attempted Kubernetes takeover and system-level backdoors
In K8s environments, it tried to deploy privileged pods across nodes, mount host filesystems, and establish persistent access.
The packages were uploaded directly to PyPI with no matching GitHub release, suggesting a compromised maintainer or API token. Related research ties this to a broader campaign targeting open-source infrastructure.
The GitHub issue was briefly flooded with bot spam and closed, raising further concerns about maintainer compromise during the incident.
The malicious versions have since been removed, but the damage may already be significant.
Early reports suggest real financial losses, including millions in stolen crypto according to Brian Roemmele.

Bitcoin just had a 2-block reorg.
Foundry wound up mining 7 blocks in a row and rewrote two of AntPool/ViaBTC's blocks out of history.
At blocks 941881–941882, Foundry and AntPool/ViaBTC were racing on competing chains simultaneously.
Foundry won and their chain became the best chain. AntPool and ViaBTC's two blocks became stale.
They are now orphaned, never to be part of the permanent ledger.

Quick explainer on what a reorg actually is:
Bitcoin's rule is simple: the chain with the most cumulative work wins.
Sometimes two miners find a valid block at nearly the same time.
The network splits briefly, with some nodes following one chain and others following another.
The tie gets broken when someone mines the next block on top of one of them and the longer chain wins.
The losing blocks become "stale" and are discarded entirely.
Those miners get nothing.
A 2-block reorg means this race extended across two consecutive blocks before resolving. This is rare but not unheard of.

When Donald Trump was first sworn into office in January of 2017, the national debt stood at $19.9 trillion dollars.
It is now over $39 trillion.
We are less than ten days from the ten-year anniversary of Trump's campaign promise to eliminate the national debt within eight years.
It has instead roughly doubled.
It appears Trump has also given up on his campaign promise of "No New Wars.”
We are on the verge of escalating tensions in the Middle East to levels not seen since Operation Iraqi Freedom.
With the Pentagon requesting an additional $200 billion for operations in Iran on top of a $1.5 trillion defense budget, the fiscal floodgates are being thrown wide open.
Maybe even more alarming than the debt total itself is the new cost of carrying it.
Net interest on the national debt is projected to exceed one trillion dollars in fiscal year 2026.
That's nearly triple the $345 billion we paid in 2020 prior to COVID.
Over the next thirty years, the government is projected to spend nearly one hundred trillion dollars on interest alone.
And of course nothing balloons the debt and creates new money like war.
In WWI, US money supply went up 117%. In WWII, up 200%.
The avalanche is coming as nine in ten Americans now say this debt is directly driving up their cost of living.
And while gold stole the show in 2025, since the outbreak of the Iran conflict, the market has made a choice. Gold is down 16%; Bitcoin is up 11%.
People fleeing the Middle East are liquidating their gold as it's too heavy and too hard to move.
Instead they're buying Bitcoin.
The debt was already exploding. Now we have a conflict on the precipice of erupting into a much larger war.
Bitcoin's resilience tells you everything about what this asset is and what it's becoming.

This week, Strategy bought 22,337 bitcoin. Miners produced 3,150.
That means Michael Saylor bought more than seven times the weekly mined supply in a bear market.
And the deeper you look into it, the wilder it gets.
STRC, Strategy’s preferred stock, raised $1.18 billion last week alone.
This is from a fixed income instrument that did not even exist eight months ago.
A preferred equity product, the kind of thing that normally trades quietly in the background for institutional accounts, just printed $2.2 billion in weekly volume.
$740 million in a single day.
There is no other fixed income product on earth trading like this.
STRC with its 11.5% dividend is becoming the Bitcoin accumulation machine Saylor has always dreamed of.
Every dollar that flows into STRC becomes bitcoin on Strategy’s balance sheet, eliminating thousands of future potential wholecoiners, permanently.
The dividend obligation is fixed, backed by over $2 billion in cash and over $55B worth of Bitcoin.
All while the bitcoin stack keeps compounding.
Critics call it a Ponzi. But they said the same thing about bitcoin at $1. At $100. At $10,000.
The critics always believe bitcoin’s best days are behind it.
If you believe in Bitcoin's long-term appreciation, which the track record demands you do, the math works out overwhelmingly in Strategy's favor.
Now extrapolate further.
Over the last two weeks, STRC raised $1.557 billion. Even in a conservative scenario, assume two dead weeks every month and zero growth, Strategy could still raise another $16 billion from STRC alone before the end of the year.
This would increase their Bitcoin stack by nearly 30% without diluting common MSTR shareholders.
Strategy is already buying 2.66 times the global mining rate and the supply vacuum is accelerating.
And we have not even seen what this machine looks like in a bull market.

Using data from 2014 to 2025 and 68 verified cable fault events, researchers found random cable failures would require roughly 72% to 92% of inter country connections to fail before causing major node disconnection.
Targeted attacks are more effective but still require 5% to 20% of key connections to be disrupted.
The study also found Tor usage increases Bitcoin’s resilience because relay bandwidth is concentrated in well connected regions.

BITCOIN SUPPLY SURPASSES 20 MILLION BTC
Seventeen years after the January 2009 genesis block, Bitcoin’s mined supply has now surpassed 20 million BTC, according to onchain data.
The milestone occurred at block 939,999, with the current block subsidy at 3.125 BTC.
The next Bitcoin halving is currently projected for April 11, 2028.
With each halving reducing issuance, supply will continue slowing.
The final 1 million bitcoin are expected to be mined over the next ~114 years, with the last satoshis issued around 2140, when Bitcoin reaches its 21 million cap.

TREASURY REPORT ACKNOWLEDGES LEGITIMATE USES FOR CRYPTO MIXERS
A new report to Congress from the US Treasury Department says digital asset mixers can serve lawful purposes, including protecting financial privacy on public blockchains.
According to the report, individuals may use mixers to shield sensitive information about personal wealth, business payments, or charitable donations from being publicly visible on-chain.
Treasury also notes that as digital asset payments grow, users may increasingly rely on privacy tools to prevent their spending habits from being exposed.
The report adds that custodial mixers operating as compliant money services businesses must register with FinCEN, maintain records, and file suspicious activity reports.

CALIFORNIA GAS PRICES COULD HIT $8/GALLON AS SOME STATIONS ALREADY REACH THE LEVEL
California lawmakers and industry experts warn gas prices could surge above $8 per gallon statewide this year, driven by climate policies, refinery closures, and global oil market turmoil.
State Sen. Suzette Valladares criticized Gov. Gavin Newsom’s cap-and-invest carbon program, calling it a “cap-and-tax” scheme that could add about $1 per gallon.
She warned California is “one refinery away” from losing another 10% of its fuel supply, which could send prices sharply higher.
A USC Marshall School of Business report estimates prices could reach $8 per gallon by late 2026.
Californians already pay about $4.81 per gallon on average, far above the U.S. average near $3.
The “California premium” includes higher excise taxes, local fees, and roughly $0.75 per gallon tied to climate programs unique to the state.

STARTUP TEASES BITCOIN MINING IN SPACE
US startup Starcloud says it plans to launch a dedicated bitcoin mining rig into orbit later this year, potentially becoming the first company to mine bitcoin in space.
The announcement came from Starcloud CEO Philip Johnston during an appearance on the HyperChange YouTube channel.
Johnston said the company is currently focused on building its orbital data center constellation but confirmed that bitcoin mining hardware is also part of its near term plans.
“There’s also bitcoin mining,” Johnston said. “We’ll have some bitcoin mining ASICs on the second spacecraft launching later this year.”
The move follows Starcloud’s successful test of running an Nvidia H100 GPU in orbit, demonstrating that high performance compute infrastructure can operate in space.
Johnston says the long term vision centers on energy.
Orbital data centers and mining rigs could tap continuous solar power in space, potentially providing a cheaper and more scalable energy source than what is available on Earth.
Compared with enterprise AI hardware like Nvidia GPUs, which can cost $30,000 or more, bitcoin mining machines are relatively inexpensive, typically ranging from $600 to a few thousand dollars.
“The cat is out of the bag,” Johnston said on X. “Starcloud will be the first to mine bitcoin in space.”
He added that the opportunity could be massive, noting that bitcoin mining currently consumes roughly 20 GW of power globally and arguing that in the long run, a significant portion of that compute could move off planet.
