The 3rd Porto Medieval and Early Modern #Philosophy Summer School, on Petrus Hispanus' Tractatus: Logic and Philosophy from the Middle Ages to Modernity, will be held in Porto, from 15 to 19 June 2026.

I’m using an instance I created myself, developed in pure PHP on a shared host.
Pros:
- It allows you to gain a deep understanding of how the #Fediverse works and just how fascinating this concept is.
- Complete sovereignty and control over your identity and data.
- No issues with moderators.
Cons:
- Because it is a personal and very small instance, synchronization with the entire Fediverse is imperfect and partial, meaning there is “thread fragmentation”.

It’s still a work in progress… but it’s been working well for me so far. My goals for now are simply to learn and understand as much as possible about #ActivityPub, #Mastodon API, etc., while maintaining sovereignty over my identity and data. Maybe in the future I’ll make this open source. I don’t even have a name for it yet. It’s just a hobby… 🙂

Everything is up and running: #ActivityPub, the #Mastodon API, which allows it to work properly with clients like @npub1lyn…ve6v . The only thing missing is polls. When I have more free time, I’ll focus on that…

The right and far-right in Portugal are rejecting #science in order to attack #transgender people. These fundamentalists have approved a bill that treats #trans identity as a disease, contrary to the evidence of the Portuguese Medical Association, the Portuguese Psychological Association, dozens of health experts, and the position of the WHO. Today is a sad day for democracy and human rights in Portugal!

O que precisa de mudar nas redes sociais? Seria bom que:
- todas adotem o protocolo activitypub;
- todas tenham o código aberto (pelo menos para se compreender como funciona o algoritmo das timelines);
- todas tenham a possibilidade de timelines cronológicas (isso deveria estar por predefinição);
- todas deixem de utilizar o scroll infinito;
- todas deixem de recolher dados pessoais.
Além disso, seria bom que o estado português fizesse um esforço por:
- Reduzir o poder de empresas como a Meta ou X;
- Apoiar redes descentralizadas baseadas em ActivityPub;
- Apoiar a criação de instâncias próprias no fediverso para os organismos do Estado e para as instituições públicas em geral (como universidades, escolas, etc).
Acho que o caminho será por aqui...

The point, for me, is that we cannot leave the issue of #ethics aside. As a tool, #LLMs seem neutral in themselves, just as a knife is neutral in itself. It depends a lot on how we use these LLMs or other instruments. Now, in such a capitalist world, it is sometimes difficult to draw attention to #ethics.
