In the clear light of day...
It's kind of weird that people would trust RNG on a custom device implemented by who knows who
but people wouldn't trust RNG on a laptop or mobile device that's been the subject of hot debate by autistic for 30 years
Just saying
What's "not necessarily"?
It's not the cpu and its not the application. Its a dedicated hardware RNG.
Which is different by device, sure.
its so over
I shouldn't be laughing
I used to flip coins for the hexagrams 🤔
****NEWSFLASH****
BLOCKSTREAM SWAPS TO BE INTEGRATED INTO BULL AND BLUE WALLET
OMFG 😂😂😂
Also
While the titan chip and others have a TEE, my understanding is they dont seed the CSPRNG
so it's not involved.
Like with everything else. However, there are some foot guns.
If you're a proxmox user and you think you'll spin up a VM without a network adapter to make a seed, that VM is going to initialize with no entropy pool.
It doesn't have any hardware to sample to "build" entropy, so you have to pass it entropy from the host system.
It is a *really good thing to understand that randomness is a thing, and how it applies to your life cryptographically.
I also didn't say anything about generation of RNG from a single source or a black box 👋
I didn't say anything about TEEs
Next time read the post plz
Um
yeah but he was ALSO a "toxic bitcoin maximalist"
and so were most of the people who recommended and used coldcard.
BECAUSE BITCOIN MAXIMALISM IS FUCKING RETARDED AND DOESN'T VERIFY JACK SHIT
When an application on your phone or running on your Linux laptop needs to access randomness it gets it from the kernel.
So the app itself does *not generate the randomness, it asks the system for a certain amount of entropy.
The system get it from a pool of entropy generated from hardware on the device. So theres an onboard RNG that gets mixed with software pseudo RNG
and when you create a seed the wallet draws from that.
It's pretty fucking random. There have been many extremely autistic people concerned about RNG for about 50 years.
It is an extremely well understood space. and the implementation of that randomness has been examined by orders of magnitude more people than any small hardware company.
Randomness generated on a device is certainly more random than the 2 - 3% loss of entropy you'll get from dice not being perfectly milled.
The problem with your device is that it might have malware on it, not that the RNG is bad.
#bitcoin #RNG
Wow
I'm so glad there are so many chains with so much cheap and private block space available.
The robot says its identical for iOS
Worthwhile to note
The wallets themselves do not create any entropy or show any preference for any algorithm,
they simply ask the operating system to provide a specific amount of entropy.
For Android anyway
its mixing entropy from a random number generator on the device with pseudo random number generation from the kernel to make an "entropy pool"
The wallet reads from that pool to make a new key.
This is really cool and works like a charm! https://haven.dergigi.com/3564950809308596434eb5c61e5da165098f1838f283264827d91558d53b78fc.jpg
Tbf I got a response to my suggestion they cover their asses rather than litigate the past
Saying this mostly to remind myself.
Cute.
I have about fifteen more years advocating for FOSS than you do son.
Garnet and mostard render it, yes.
Y'all know I'm not much for conspiracies,
and I've been loling a bit about @nprofile…w0am aggressive post-mortem.
But if NVK said that the Odell's guildes protected people from the 4.0.0 firmware bug...
which is what Matt said on-air,
then he sure wasn't talking about any USB dev flag.
The timing of it all is extremely sus.
and we've already identified NVK as a sociopath asshole.
Hardware wallets fill a legit normie need.
We really dont want people storing keys on Windows laptops.
The reason it was so bad is DIRECTLY because Bitcoin maximalism is culty groupthink and doesn't actually encourage thinking critically.

Its was fully foss initially.
The "rug pull" he's talking about is when they switched the license to common clause (not foss)
I dont get it, he's obviously talking about the license.
Worst part is he's made it obvious *for years*
Everybody has to be a fucking "coach" these days
🎯
"Open Source Software Development"
It was a "belief-system failure" because *Bitcoin maximalism doesn't have critical thinking safeguards.*
And all the posturing "toxic maxis" should reflect deeply on that and STFU for a while.

There have been many of us talking about FOSS for decades now
Shishi is just the guy that wants to be sure everybody knows hes doing A LOT and is VERY SUCCESSFUL
Remember to touch grass from time to time and be kind to yourself. It's almost impossible to process the flurry of information. Remember to eat and sleep and stay hydrated. Yes things are fucked, but don't fuck yourself up in the process too.
Interesting that Odell returned to X just in time for the Coldcard exploit.
It's what you make it. Want a cool case, design one or buy one of the many case options out there.
Seedsigner is the project with the bitcoin ethos.
Yeah exactly
What was the problem?
A lot of the reason this was SO bad is because coinkite managed to ensconce themselves as a kind of cornerstone of the culty maxi movement.
There was a problem. The maxi community cannot virtue signal as cypherpunk bitcoiners unless they have a self-custody solution.
But. Theyre mostly not technical, so they cant understand the trade-offs of software
and they're inclined toward conspiracy, so they want protection against edge cases.
The plebs NEEDED coinkite.
They weren't interested in verifying. The company supported their worldview, their CEO acted "alpha" on social media.
They were *right*
and their eventual success and wealth was guaranteed if they only kept the faith like good incels.
They were (and are) being sold an image and an entire worldview and CC were a foundational part of that.
I'm really sorry to everyone who lost their savings
and I'm extremely pissed off at the environment that made this such a big exploit.
How big of a piece of shit can one person be?
#nevent1q…lq9c
Hes trying to affinity link the CC hack with the Samourai devs.
Who are obviously incarcerated and unable to respond.
Because hes a very sad person with nothing better to do than smear other people to make himself look better.
maaaybe
mostly its funny to see laser so pissed off.
Not really.
It was a Bitcoin-only affinity scam they were a de facto part of and profited from.
Then we should practice apologizing when we're able to.
I apologize for being a dick ❤️
