There's a sutta in the Pali Canon that nobody in Thailand has ever taught you.
The Cakkavattisīhanāda Sutta (จักกวัตติสูตร, DN26) — the Lion's Roar on Kingship. The Buddha tells a king: if your people are poor, it's not their karma. It's YOUR failure.
The teaching is explicit: poverty spreads when rulers don't provide for agriculture, commerce, and administration. Then theft follows. Then violence. Then weapons. Then collapse.
This isn't personal ethics. This is political economy dressed as Dhamma. And it gives ordinary people a standard by which to judge their rulers — not "obey because divine right" but "your legitimacy depends on feeding us."

A big part of the reason the system manages to influence societies so easily is that there will always be people who are happy to have sold their morals for some money and fame.
Before social media it was primarily the celebrities and presstitutes, but as confidence in and attention to Hollywood propaganda and the media collapses, now it's every day people with large social accounts influencing people for a paycheck, and their 5 minutes.
