A severe security vulnerability has been identified in the Zilliqa Ledger application, potentially exposing private keys for native ZIL tokens. The flaw affects the cryptographic implementation of non-EVM transactions, specifically the Schnorr signatures, which have been present since 2019.
Analysis indicates that a predictable pattern in the ephemeral nonce can allow attackers to reconstruct private keys by analyzing approximately five blockchain transactions. This issue is isolated to the native ZIL application; EVM-compatible transactions are unaffected. Native transactions have been halted, and Zilliqa is working with Ledger to release a patched version and a secure fund migration tool.

🚨 Zilliqa Ledger vulnerability: Native ZIL private keys potentially recoverable! A flaw in the Ledger app affects Schnorr signatures for non-EVM ZIL transactions. The top 64 bits of the ephemeral nonce are always zero, allowing attackers to recover keys from ~5 on-chain txs. This has existed since 2019.
Native ZIL transactions are halted. Affected keys must be deprecated. EVM txs & SDKs (zilliqa-js, gozilliqa-sdk, pyzil) are SAFE.
