It IS necessary for more people to run nodes. And the current system to do so sucks even on good hardware and work good connections.

There's mostly only unlimited data on WiFi, around here. Mobile gets throttled, once you get past a certain amount.
And you can be happy, if you can even get a couple of bars, so it's also a question of having the bandwidth, regardless of price. It's even worse, in many places outside of the EU.
