Does anyone know the answer to this? Suppose you have some very practical SNARK verification on Bitcoin. Suppose you have an L2 (a rollup or whatever) where states progress with ZKPs of correct transition. To claim an exit coin on Bitcoin, in BitVM or Glock or similar, you follow a claim-challenge-assert procedure onchain to prove something like "I own these coins on L2 because this ZKP says I do". The ZKP can be a recursive proof from the genesis block of L2, that everyone agrees on. All the state updates can be cryptographically proven. It's definitely possible. But what I don't get is this: how can we know that the state transition you're proving is *up to date*? On Ethereum or similar, you include state roots on the L1 and you ZKP using L1 consensus, so there's no argument what the current state is. But if a BitVM based L2 has had say 100 blocks all with valid proofs, then if I was able to prove that I had 10 coins at block 47, that proof still works at block 100, even if I already spent them all on L2.
If you're thinking, well, the state roots are published in OP_RETURNs or whatever, so an operator can't equivocate, then setting aside you'd have to hook that into the user's exit rights claim, ... that requires trust in an operator not to publish a fake state root for coin safety - *not* the same as the intended mode of a zkrollup style operator, for which you're only trusting liveness: if they post a state update, it has to be valid, and exiting your coins can be forced to be from that current state root.
