Yes. Also, it actually is hard. You can't give your xpub to a server and then expect a regular HD wallet to be able to recover the funds because the server will create huge gaps between addresses. If you lease and expire the indexes, well then a bad actor can just hammer the server, wait for the leases to expire then track the activity anyway.

My zaps appear to be broken, not that it matters for me but people have been zapping me but the funds appear to be going somewhere else but I’m not sure.
I checked both CoinOs, and Primal, perhaps could be going to wisp, or Amethyst but I’m not sure.

Clients would need to intercept the tls cert from the ip-identified server and compare it to a fingerprint published in the relay connection route event. That's a layer below where most clients have access to via libraries.
In my stack, it would be an easy addition to go-honeybee, where you just create a custom dialer that intercepts the cert, hashes it, and compares it to a fingerprint when you have one.
Collecting relay routing info + self signed certificates would be a step to perform when connected to dns relays. The other wrinkle is that I don't know if a server can serve different certificates based on whether the client is using the DNS name vs ip, but nginx should be able to handle that.
