I am not saying it's an alternative to nip-32, but in addition to it. It's a way to move onto the social network without any web of trust. It's not perfect, bit its better than nothing and reduces the incentive to explode the network with infinite identities.
Another side effect of staking Bitcoin to an identity tied to your npub is that as long as there is Bitcoin on that address, you are proving to your network that you actually control your nsec and haven't leaked it.

Sure, it's likely that the fees will make the onchain zaps not very used. Unless people decide to send large amounts. Or for people who just absolutely hate lightning I suppose. Silent payments would fix the whole issue though it seems as far as the privacy stuff goes.

All actions by American entities (Senators, companies, podcast shills, Trump family) have been desperately slowing down adoption by linking Bitcoin to Bank loans. Adam Back included unfortunately seems to depend on a pay check from the institutions that have been stringing him along to play the game the american empire wants to be seen played. Everyone should ask themselves how does the solution to central banking and the fed bitcoin becomes adopted as money if its tied exclusively to debt that the US government has all sorts of schemes in manipulating. The new narrative is NEVER sell your bitcoin instead hand it over to us (for safe keeping of course) and take out huge amounts of unpredictable debt.
I'm limiting the drugs at the moment, there's something else happening though, so I have to go for further investigations

The side-effect of having Bitcoin tied to an address that is derived from your npub/nsec is that you immediately know if someone stole your identity because that would be the first thing they take.
That sounds cypherpunk enough for me.
I was proposing something like this for identity staking. A public Bitcoin address that anyone can confirm onchain that has a nonzero balance placing a "stake" on your npub showing there is nonzero value behind the identity. Even if its not used for "zapping" it could be used as a trust mechanism.

I think most users would have fought for public zaps anyway, even if they weren't an option. Zaps aren't money, they're a social signal.
