Please post updates on your progress. I switched from Windows to Linux (Debian) for all my server stuff, but my workstation remains Windows 11. I've never tried Linux on the client with a full GUI. As Windows quality gets worse and worse, it's becoming more appealing though. Let me know how it goes!

So true! Getting to a point where you're not compelled to work, combined with the knowledge that you can move with your assets if things so south, gets you to 95% on the contentment gauge. Mexican food and Diet Coke fills in another 4%. Displays of wealth barely even register. 1% tops.
Remember when people used to talk about how Bitcoin's price was inexorably tied to growth in the M2 money supply? That was cool. They had colorful charts and whatnot and lots of well-meaning happy face reactions and zaps of approval.

I remember seeing that too. Nostr isn't really a great venue for those who see aspire to be "influencers." The market is just too small. I'm OK with that. I was never big on following influencers anyway.
💯 Yeah, I don't understand the Twitter obsession / resentment. I personally never used Twitter and don't care about it. I have no problem with Nostr remaining a niche product for Bitcoiners, libertarians, and wine makers. I like it here. I enjoy hosting my own relay and bloom server and seeing other nerds building on top of this great little ecosystem.
People who moan about Nostr not capturing Twitter's market share or Bitcoin not overtaking fiat are gonna be in for a life of ongoing disappointment.

Agreed. Context is everything. Oftentimes, staying silent beats telling the truth. There's no need to tell the fat girl that she's fat, or tell the grizzled war veteran that joining the military was a fool's errand and that he would've been better off dodging the draft -- even though I believe with full conviction that both statements are true.
I've noticed that the need for harsh truth arises in more mundane situations. Like recently, chatting with a fellow diner at a restaurant I frequent:
HIM: I can't believe I got called for jury duty again.
ME: The trick to avoiding jury duty in <our city> is to ignore the summons. Don't call the number on the back. Don't visit the website. Don't show up. Act as though the summons were never received. Six to nine months later you'll get another one. Ignore that one too. The only time you can't ignore it is if it comes via registered mail and even if it does, you do X....
HIM: But we all have a civic duty.
ME: Hard disagree because...<justification>
Now, the guy may come around to my way of thinking with regard to jury duty, or then again, he may respond to the jury summons. But if he's like most people, he'll take my advice, ignore the summons, keep his actions under wraps, but will virtue signal his belief in civic duty when the topic comes up with his friends and family. And that's ok. I told him a harsh truth (as I see it) in a non-confrontational way, and what he does with it is up to him.
Taking things to the extreme is fun and I enjoy having a good time 🤙
I like @npub1ghc…ygat ... He gives off a degenerate gamer vibe if you catch him on the wrong day but has a lot of interesting things to say about philosophy, Bitcoin culture, music, and life in general.

I've tried this. It's actually a great filtering mechanism.
When political discussions come up, for example, I say in all honesty that I have zero loyalty or sense of civic duty, and my goal is to contribute as little as possible to the system, while extracting as much as I can. I occasionally get some pearl clutching and righteous virtue signaling in response, but I also encounter others who go, "Yeah. Totally makes sense. Let's talk strategy."
Told a hot girl once that I'd be a shit romantic partner or lover, but I'd make a great friend. And indeed we're still friends decades later.
I think some people appreciate the honesty. Maybe not the honesty per-se, but just the fact that one truly knows themselves and is direct and open about their strengths, weaknesses, goals, and desires -- it's refreshing in some people's eyes.

I can see why they'd give up on Bitcoin. The question of whether or not Bitcoin is a safe haven in times of turmoil, an inflation hedge, or a "store of value" has been answered, and that answer is a resounding NO. It utterly failed for those use cases. But to chase the AI bubble at all time highs when that trade is pretty much played out? I feel like that's going to end in tears. Worst timing ever.

Maybe. I've been in this game since 2015 and have noticed that for some, each one of the these massive drawdowns builds resilience, while for others, it really takes something out them. Like it steals part of their soul. This so-called store of value isn't for everyone. You have to be wired a certain way.

That is the point when you use relays correctly. Primal uses a caching server to interact with relays. That is the central point of failure.
If your relay is set as outbox relay people who follow you will ask your outbox relays for your notes

Also, do you have to install their apps or can you use it from a standard browser? All I see are proprietary desktop and mobile apps.

For search, I personally have switched to a combination of Brave Search (search.brave.com) and AI. For the AI portion, I'm using a service called PPQ @npub16g4…kv4h which lets you use any of the popular models. You pay-per-query via Bitcoin Lightning.
Seriously. The whole reason I switched from Google to StartPage is to avoid that CAPTCHA garbage. If StartPage is doing it too, their service is absolutely useless to me.

I'm experimenting with self-hosting a Nostr relay (strfry). And a bunker/signer. And a Lightning node (core + lnd). And soon, the web client (jumble). I have no idea if any of this stuff is working successfully, either in isolation or in concert.
Any attempt to send me a reply, reaction, DM (kind 14), or 1 sat zap would be appreciated. If you get an error message, I'd love to know what it is. Not sure if I'm smart enough for this self-hosting stuff but let's give it a shot.

I really wish you guys would post these videos to anywhere other than YouTube. Like literally anywhere else. YouTube blocks VPN users unless you create a Google account, which many of us refuse to do. Maybe duplicate the video to Rumble?
He's a talented young man, but Randy "Macho Man" Savage was the greatest athlete of our generation, perhaps of any generation. He was also highly intelligent and charismatic, traits that are not often found amongst the NBA elite.

It's incomprehensible to me that the movie "Sideways" tanked the sale of Merlot. I've heard it from several people though. It wasn't even a major theme of the movie. It was an offhand, one-line comment.
On an unrelated note, for what it's worth, the Asian chick in that movie was stunning.
