clightning is great. I was even building something called btcmerchant at one point which used cln as a backend. Was btcpayserver without the server. Very small attack surface because it just uses clns rune system which is quite secure and powerful. Kind of like nostr clients but the relay is the lightning node.

I was busy contributing my own feature to ColdCard, the RNG part was not on my radar at all when looking into this until the word broke of it. I did verify the hotfix generates non-deterministic entropy now, so upgraded ColdCards are actually safe now.

Relentlessly onboarding people (waiters, shopkeepers, old friends) via Blue Wallet
“This transaction is unstoppable. I just sent you $1 without banks, without any registration, with good privacy & instant finality!”
The biggest problems:
1. it wasn’t working very reliably (many transactions would fail, which made me feel embarrassed)
2. Blue Wallet shut down their Lightning service a couple of years later, so everyone most likely got rugged
3. The amount was too small to withdraw on chain
4. I’m not as rich as Roger and probably never will be
Lessons learned, my initiative turned out to be a failed experiment 🤷🏻♂️

I haven’t kept up with who is on which side through all this BIP-110 stuff. 🤷♂️ The article is focused on technical aspects of running lightning channels through this event, rather than discussing either side’s ideological arguments. Even if the risk of loss is low, I don’t like unnecessary risk and would close any unneeded channels. To each his own though. 🫡
