On BIP 110, miners, and chain splits...
It's helpful to separate miners who want fiat, and miners who want bitcoin.
It's fundamental, and no one does this.
Miners who want bitcoin, are part of the choice of soft fork, their opinion and the node they choose matters. Effectively they are nodes (Nodes are people who want bitcoin, and actively choose to enforce their rules).
Miners (who want fiat) work for Bitcoiners. Their opinions don't matter.
Suppose all miners were fiat people and not supportive of BIp110, and suppose every node runner supported bip110...
The nodes that the miners in this case run, say core 30, are irrelevant because these people don't want to accumulate bitcoin, and so they don't contribute to the value of that version of bitcoin (whichever version they choose matters little because they aren't accumulating the coin, they're selling it after mining).
If they choose against nodes, they are mining a coin Bitcoiners don't want - it has no value ultimately, even if it has the highest hashpower. It's a hash-secured worthless coin.
The valuable version (valuable because all people who want bitcoin choose to accumulate it) will have less hashpower. But because it's valuable, miners will defect to mine it and earn fiat (and difficulty being low will make it lucrative for those in first).
Ultimately, one must understand that mining doesn't give bitcoin value, it only helps it function, it's PEOPLE WHO WANT IT that give it value, and if these people run nodes, they get a say in what it is.

What does a #ParmAirGap ™ Laptop do for you?
1) Safe key generation - Follow Parman's Dice roll guide, or pick words with pre-loaded Ian Coleman's BIP39 tool.
2) Key testing/verification - check the seed you use on your hardware wallet is correctly generating addresses and not using a secret parallel seed to trick you.
3) Writing encrypted letters - See Parman's guide to encrypt files with gpg.
4) Key storage - the ParmAirGap drive is encrypted. Anyone who takes it apart and removes the drive can't read the drive.
5) Stateless wallet access - You can, but don't necessarily need to keep the seeds on the device if you're nervous about that; you'll just need to type in the seeds into Electrum/Sparrow each time.

A SEEDSIGNER IS GREAT - but because I get asked about the differences...
1) Writing encrypted letters - otherwise not possible on Seedsigner. Copy the letter to USB drive and hand it to a lawyer for example.
2) Key storage (but you should encrypt if you do that, eg password protected wallet files). This is not possible with SS as it is stateless; you are encouraged to put it on paper or equivalent, which doesn't get encrypted. But you can use ParmAirGap in a stateless way if you choose.
3) You can generate a wallet and addresses with an open source wallet (as Seedsigner does), but with ParmAirGap, you have two other open source wallets to compare the results. This way, you're not even trusting any open source software - it removes the paranoid need to actually read the code.
4) A Seedsigner LOOKS like a Bitcoin device, it is known. A ParmAirGap looks like a regular laptop, and so is better disguised.

A Bitcoin node is not software or a machine...
It is a person who actively decides what Bitcoin is by connecting to their preferred version when required.
During times of peace, no connection is necessary (for this specified purpose -there are other reasons, see links below).
During war, eg 2017, only those making a choice are nodes.
If a person connects their wallet to Parmanode or Star9, or Umbrel, but doesn't agree with it when push comes to shove, they are not a node.
So it's not just copies of the blockchain in active sync, because if it was just about that, it's plenty redundant.
Fundamentally it's people who are not passive.

Once upon a time, someone exploited a bug and got 184 billion bitcoins.
The VALID TRANSACTIONS were rugged by Satoshi to keep bitcoin going.
Today, another exploit (that Core refuses to acknowledge or fix) is damaging Bitcoin.
Similarly to the previous bug fix, where a malicious exploiter was rugged, should "valid transaction" be a reason to not fix Bitcoin?
It requires consensus that fixing a life threatening bug overrides immutability.
It's uncomfortable to talk about, but if you think about it, OF COURSE the survival of Bitcoin logically supercedes immutability.
And so, the debate should be about if this is really going to destroy Bitcoin if left unchecked. That conversation is being drowned out by appealing to less important principles of money.
I think we should first determine that, then encourage discussions about how to fix it, always remembering that the highest principle is Bitcoin surviving as digital sound money for the world.
It's OK to entertain an idea, like rugging malicious spammers, perhaps deciding against it, or not, or finding an alternative.
It was easier to fix when Satoshi was in charge and Bitcoin wasn't decentralised, now we all have to decide, all while the enemy is sending bots, and Adam Back, to muddy the waters and distract us from the most important conversations.

I spent the last 3 days intensely thinking to create something new for computer security, making ParmanodL computers safer, but applicable to others who would want to copy. It involved...
1) Aggressive whiteboard doodling with frizzy hair
2) Long battles with retarded AI to test and probe
3)5 hr insominia mind's eye designing
4) Code testing
It's a way to solve the injection problem when making software patches that require restricted access.
Normally you'd need to physically enter the sudo password to permit (a deal breaker for web GUI), and if triggering the patch remotely, it's dangerous to send the sudo pass via a browser, or have the browser trigger scripts run by root.
It's solved with a restricted bucket directory, a sudoers.d-preapproved patch-running script, that enforces pgp signature checks before moving git pull patche files to the restricted area for running.
This way, parman-approved patch scripts can't be modified once they are in the restricted area, and beforehand if they are modified, The signature will be invalidated. This makes the script safe to execute with root privileges triggered by a remote browser, as nothing but parman-signed code can run.
It's super niche, but new, so maybe I'll do a publication somewhere.
Of course this is dependent on trusting Parmanode software in the first place, which you imply when entering your sudo password when requested.
The modification means you don't have to keep doing it, and no extra risk is added.
Similar to how you PGP check a wallet once when you install it, not every time you do a transaction.
The wallet you are running can actually maliciously change after you've PGP-approved and installed it, but Parmanode restricted bucket files can't.
This is one more reason to get a clean transaction computer at the very least, for bitcoin transactions - don't use your regular computer.

Do you want to know why a lot of base64 numbers (not all) end with = or ==?
eg dGhlIHNhbXBsZSBub25jZQ==
This might seem boring, but explaining it covers a lot of interesting things (also, I'm assuming you know what base64 is, but I will take requests to explain that another time).
The = sign is not part of the character set (64 characters) of base64. It's used for padding at the end (for remainders), when the data to be encoded doesn't fit evenly in the byte-groups that will be used.
It starts with understanding that base 64 encodes data with 6 bits at a time (00000000-00111111 in binary can hold the values 0 to 63 in decimal), and the smallest data communication unit in modern computers, a byte, has 8 bits (8 bits can hold 0 to 255, ie 256 different numbers).
So instead of wasting two leading bits per byte, the lowest common multiple of 6 and 8 is used as a minimum "packet" for base64 storage - that common multiple is 24.
So 3 bytes (24 bits) will correspond to four base64 characters.
But, if the number of characters needed doesn't divide evenly, ie, there is a remainder, then the = sign indicates whether there is one or two entire unused bytes at the end.
For example, let's say there is a large number (all data on a computer is a number) that requires 21 base64 characters to encode.
That would use up 3 bytes for each 4 base64 characters (4 characters fit per 3 bytes), so 5 groups of 3 bytes (15 bytes) will be used for the first 20 characters.
The last character will sit inside a 3-byte group on its own. The first byte of the three will have 6 bits with two unused bits, and then there are two entire unused bytes, so two ='s are added at the end of the base64 number.
BUT WHY?
Why not just print the base64 number and omit the = sign(s)?
Because their purpose isn't for encoding the number - the purpose is for the time when the number is going to be decoded back to bytes.
It is done in groups of 3 bytes, and without the = sign, the decoder won't know if there is a remainder or not, and the empty bytes will be interpreted as a zero instead of padding.

The problem with arbitrary data tolerance is that it doesn't contribute to Bitcoin being money.
It's like promoting the electrical conductivity of gold as a reason for it to be money.
You might think that's not so bad but...
The problem it causes, having arbitrary data, is subjectivity, and various attacks - it's easier to stand for none of it, and remain objectively supporting Bitcoin as money.
You don't need to define what spam is - it's a subset of arbitrary data.
You don't need to defend Bitcoin being a free speech platform (it's not), and explain why CSAM can't be blocked - it's a subset of arbitrary data.
You don't need to care that not all arbitrary data can't be stopped - your principles are what guides you, and with the right principles, if people concur, consensus is easy to achieve.
Right now, we're fractured, because people who don't want spam feel like they have to allow it because it's hard to define (and because shitcoiners and fiat maxis are disguising themselves as one of us, muddying the waters, looking at Lopp and others).
I'm saying this is unnecessary. Just be against arbitrary data; it's not part of Bitcoin's purpose.
If you desire extra "nice to have" features from arbitrary data, in addition to Bitcoin's pure monetary features, then you have to accept spam and CSAM, and unwanted additional attacks, and also damaging infighting.

Allowing some and not others based on interpretation of the arbitrary data is, and is a strawman argument.
Just block arbitrary data indiscriminately.
Bitcoin is for sats transfer, not arbitrary data.

Yet another contradiction...
If you argue it's important that people don't use many different node implementations, even quoting Satoshi's opinion on it, then you should agree Core should more carefully consider what users want, and not "forcefully" change default settings, pushing people away to other implementations - that fact that the mempool policy changes are not related to block consensus rules is no defence; it's clearly been a factor in pushing people away.
Also, it's not about the strict definition of "force", and debating this is a distraction. The fact is, uniformity in one domain was sacrificed for another, CAUSED by tinkering with Bitcoin code.
"Forced", "Caused", like, whatever, that kind of language has no place, I mean, shouldn't be considered.
Spelling it out...
1) "We need mempools to be uniform, so spammers don't go directly to miners, or this will cause miner centralisation" (Adam Back, in particular is championing this nonsense).
That uniformity desire CONTRADICTS the one about node runners...
2) Core can do whatever they want, if you don't like it, run a different implementation.
Which contradicts...
A) I'm educating you why you shouldn't run knots, and why Core making unilateral changes is a good thing.

Life cycle of a DCA transaction...
When your filthy bank releases your government tyranny tokens to your exchange after a malicious 24 hour hold (for your safety), the price of bitcoin pamps 10% moments before the tyrannical coins are shown in your Coinbase account.

Eventually, your Datum instance on your ParmanodL machine will fashion from its filtered mempool a potential block and include your incoming transaction. One of your BitAxes will then mine the block and win.
It will then gossip the winning block before other miners claim victory, and all the nodes in the world will update their "tip" block. All miners will then attempt to win the next block.
You mining address will be paid a bit over 3.125 bitcoin which is allowed to be spent after 100 blocks, congratulations 🎉, but also in that winning block is the transaction that Coinbase paid your address.
Your ParmanodL laptop that has Sparrow open, and syncing with your fulcrum/electrs server, which syncs to your bitcoin Knots blockchain (all on the same machine), will notice the new payment in the fulcrum/electrs database and Sparrow will show the new bitcoin in your wallet.
Feeling deep and unshakable satisfaction, you then close all the apps, and leave the laptop open, connected to power, monitor dimmed, so that Knots running in the background will stay up to date, and go outside to touch grass, as they say.
You know you can totally shut it down, but you prefer leaving it on as is ready instantly when you need it, and you will for your mentoring video meeting with Parman next morning.

If bitcoin was highly valuable as money by the entire world population, and the block subsidy was zero, and fee revenue for miners was next to nothing, how much would an ASIC cost?
Very little right?
Does that make it easier or harder to get 51% of all of them and attack Bitcoin?
The cheap machines would be attractive to attackers, but also to those with wealth wanting to defend their own wealth.
What's important is not precisely calculating today what percentage of attackers and defenders there will be then, but acknowledging the fact that fees are not required for the competitive nature of mining to remain, and that being that case, it still defends Bitcoin, and all talk of tail emission should be stopped immediately.
