Deepseek Flash is great. Flash **Vision** experimental model is crap. I'm currently fixing a million subtle bugs introduced this weekend by it. Sorry if someone tried 44b recently.
After adding features and noticing bugs on production, I applied many fast patches while trying to leverage the cached prompts (cheaper) by reusing the same model. Of course the patches were full of bugs too. 🫠

I used to think that public relays could only effectively rate limit event intake (by IP) and not really stop spam. I thought that things like the HLL count spec that got merged could be easily gamed.
But I'm yet to see spam on wss://relay.44billion.net thus @npub180c…h6w6 was right all the time. Atleast until someone can manage to spam that relay, then @npub1q3s…d26p wins.

Real power is being closer to the money. Money kinda dictates what gets implemented (faster). And implementations that come first tend to become NIPs.

Sovereign domains aside, I'm betting on using nostr relays simply as an ephemeral storage that keeps nostr events persisted for free for 1-3 days tops. This happen to pair well with the fact that most microblogging posts aren't meant to be revisited too far after publishing date.
The source of truth becomes the user devices' local DBs that gets synced (syncing uses nostr relays too).
This could make Nostr its own thing that doesn't need to compete on the same terms of players with deep pockets.

The thing about email is that everybody only uses gmail/icloud/outlook. That's because they are "free". In the past, you had to pay some money for like 5-10MB (ok for the time) of disk space for a mailbox. Now nobody will pay.

For Nostr, atleast, it depends on what it wants to be. I myself don't understand what people expect from Nostr relays.
I would like Nostr to be free public relays that hold events for just 2 to 3 days, unless you pay them or are an influncer that brings traffic that could be of use for the operator somehow. <- This doesn't need scaled servers.
Though it looks like most of the current users and apps expect big relays and blossom servers to store events and media for free forever, which is an illusion.

I see, there's a need for an indexer to aggregate content from homeservers and then make endpoints available for fetching filtered data, like these: https://nexus.pubky.app/swagger-ui/.
There are pros and cons to doing it this way. Offering a reference implementation full of features from the start has its advantages. Requiring a big server is one disadvantage in comparison to non-indexer Nostr relays.

And by not imposing any shape to the data, it most likely means there's no API for searching data by some specific content field (as we have with one-letter event tags).
I think there's just fetching by path (like folders) and anything beyond that would have to be made custom by homeservers that care (similar to NIP-50 extensions). This aspect seems limiting.

Nostr relays are means to broadcasting messages that live enough time for interested peers to fetch'em when they come online. Expecting no more than 2-3 days of event retention from free public relays is a safe bet.
Is this why Signal (not MLS, yes) requires millions of dollars a year for a "beefy server"?

Why do some people want key rotation on Nostr? That's bad.
Like, you DM me about secret stuff, then I rotate to a new key, then I reveal my old key for anyone to decrypt and read those messages with proof that you wrote them.

NIP 4e is interesting but is rotating the encryption key regularly really a good idea?
If you decouple encryption from you main key and rotate encryption keys at will, there's no punishment to leaking conversations because revealing the message does not reveal the peer's main private key, just that disposable encryption key.

Breek sdk powers many bitcoin wallets. They are rolling out a way to store seed phares that is identical to how we already storing nostr keys at https://44billion.net
They use a client-side passkeys flow so that you don't have to remember your seed, although you may export it at anytime.
However, we went a step further to make sure we can never steal your keys even if we wanted to. The vault (login module) is on a separate domain we don't control. By default it is on Github Pages. You may point to your own fork there or to your self hosted version anywhere by changing the url on the settings page!

You kinda asked what was https://44billion.net so I'll hijack this post to explain it.
What if instead of an everything app, you had a website that is just a dock/toolbar where you "install" all nostr apps you like and access them easily with the same account? App discovery is achieved with the pre-installed app store.
The theory is that when you have all nostr apps at one place, you don't need a super app.
Let me know if you have any concerns/questions/issues if you test it.

I try to make it easy to grasp when talking about it because I think people would consider the details very boring, but devs may check the code that was made open-source recently https://github.com/44Billion/44b-relay. I'm happy to answer questions about it.
It's a mistery to me the reason why most people, specially nostr devs, show no interest. I stopped mentioning people on posts or advertising on their posts to avoid annoying them hehe.

The wss://relay.44billion.net relay and the https://44billion.net platform are separate things, you can add just the relay as write/read relay (you need to find the relay configuration page on your nostr app of choice). Who runs it shouldn't matter much, but it's me.
This relay explanation: By people naturally requesting content from their follows and clicking around, they help the relay to know who are the interesting pubkeys and who aren't. The uninteresting pubkeys tend to generate spam/ads. The relay by default won't send these when you're checking your notifications, seeing post replies or the relay feed.
If people start picking just relays with spam protection such as that one, Nostr experience improves.

the nsec is first encrypted (passkey->seed->deterministickey->nip44(nsec)) then stored on the device's secure element (requires largeblob extension support).
your question is related to the syncing mechanism of the passkey and it depends on the passkey/password manager you use. default android: google cloud. defaut ios: apple cloud.
if you're too concerned you can do one of these three things:
A) define a sync passphrase, if the manager has that option
B) use a manager with no syncing. on each device you re-add your nsec once
C) self host a manager e.g. bitwarden lite

I like nostria a lot cause it's feature-rich. But I'd like to use it inside my platform (it acts as a nip07 ext), which only works with nostr apps that are static websites that runs fully client-side.
But when I checked your code here https://github.com/nostria-app/nostria I saw many mentions of SSR (server-side rendering).
By any chance is there a build script for production usage that makes it work fully client-side?

That's a good time to ELI5 it for you all non-devs.
We had @npub1era…skz0 spells and they were good. But now anyone that isn't a wizard can consume a scroll and cast a single spell (fireball etc), which is great news for us regular humans.

then please open the app store and install any app there. all these apps were manually patched on a fork of mine to call `peekPublicKey` on load.
do the same with another npub. switch accounts and try any app.
at the end tell me if you can't feel the magic of `peekPublicKey` yet
