I mention a possible 12-18 month timeframe for gold revaluation in this note giving us 2-8 months from here (obviously could be longer, I was stabbing in the dark at what I thought I saw)
If the US doesn’t immediately get out of Iran, their vassals are fucked. Materially fucked. Australia can’t print diesel. Japan can’t print gas. That timeframe could actually play out here.
But revaluing gold would serve to not only enrich their enemies as I pointed out here, but it would validate BRICS.

I lost my employer like €50k on an overnight batch job due to faulty regex ~20 years ago.
The guy who designed the system introed me to #Bitcoin, he was using the company computers to mine before FPGAs and when caught we had to run batch regex for the company overnight instead.
Super cool dude, he covered for me, I could easily have got fired for such a fuckup but he took responsibility because he didn’t properly handle some edgecase in the regex and took a few hours to fix it the next day after I basically fucked the entire product catalogue.
I’m glad I learnt regex syntax then. I’m also glad I learned python and JavaScript and other shit even if I’ll never write it directly again thanks to AI, I at least know what it’s doing and can see stupid shit because I did the stupid shit myself.

Would you support Core reverting v30 changes to OP_RETURN?

It can be and has been because Bitcoiners have felt the pinch more than others being censored and deplatformed from legacy social media, but if youve ever read stories about people getting locked out of Apple or Google then you realise the problem Nostr can address is much larger, not to mention entirely new things being enabled which couldn’t have worked before Nostr.

Are you still thinking of Nostr as a replacement social media platform?
I’ve seen that as a deadend for a while. When you replace social media you don’t find another platform, you get off that shit and spend your time on other things.
I don’t think there’s another generation of platforms coming after people come to this conclusion.
But that’s why Nostr can succeed - it’s not a social media solution. It can become as ubiquitous as Login with Google and avoid all the spying and KYC shit and that’s where it can win.

IP was always total bullshit. It was only Americans and those in their shadow who believed in it.
There is nothing wrong with open source.
The moats now will be through people in the networks.
Devs aren’t ready for this because they’re generally antisocial retards and instead of listening to their Users they go and build shit that nobody asked for because it interests them more then serving their network who pays their bills.
You will become a cautionary tale of Nostr and this network will be just fine without you working on Xitter replacement clients.

Seeing Christmas be more broadly celebrated in Vietnam than in Australia was a shock to me.
Seeing how they celebrate their Lunar New Year where people travel half a day or more to go spend time with family and the whole place shuts down for ~2 weeks was something else.
Asia still values culture - they value something like Christmas more than ostensibly Christian countries.
They value family completely differently. I could write a whole thread about just Tet music which is all about going home to see family; seriously impressive propaganda, feels like the West in the 80s where music was made to unify people.
The West is no longer competing - they’re already done and they just don’t know it yet.
It’s going to take generations and guillotines to undo the rot of the West and nobody seems ready to face that reality.
Asia already ate pain, they’re going to Bradbury their way to the top just because they refused to dilute themselves and held fast to remain a coherent people.

I could kind of see Saylor’s arc over the first years. Posted about his digital assets framework after Trump got elected as I could see what he was doing.
Now though, I’m lost. The veneer of his being a vehicle for USGov accumulation is so paper thing, I don’t know what else he can say any more.

Sounds good in theory, won’t work in practice.
Take sales commissions. Every year the Sales Org comes out with a new commission plan optimised for what the company wants to sell. They offer incentives to drive certain product lines, maybe bonuses for new customers or a specific target customer list, maybe replacing a specific competitor.
Sales people look at this and make their own plans - “how do I make the most money with the least effort?” they will ask themselves; standard human behaviour.
Invariably there will be a way for them to do that and the Sales team will always find it but in my experience, it never works well for the Sales Org.
They want new logos? Ok I’ll get you new logos if that’s going to line my pockets, but you’re going to churn way more of these customers than you expected because I’m not getting paid for retention and churn is YOUR problem.
Oh you want Services revenue because your delivery arm has overhired and insists Sales keep them occupied? I’ll sell your Services, shitloads of them, now my product Sales have cratered and that big lumpy rev you thought you were going to get is drying up because you decided to basically penalise me for doing what I did last year but your Services book is full and so is my cheque.
You want to take out your main competitor? No problem, I know every target company who has that competitor, I’m spending 100% of my time taking them out and not doing the other things you wanted because you disincentivised that.
That’s the Faustian bargain being driven when you couple compensation with results. You’ll get the results, at the expense of the other things you assumed would all also go your way.
Management always thinks they can have all 3 corners of the triangle, but that’s not how the world works.
And invariably what actually happens, which people who haven’t worked in Sales and seen this before don’t understand is, Management tend to actually penalise their best sellers.
They see they paid Joe Bloggs 7-figures last year, he made more money than the CEO! Yeah sure Joe sold 15% of the company’s revenue single-handedly last year, but he can’t be earning more than us Managers! Let’s cap his commissions and cut his territory and put his target up by 100% if he wants to earn 7-figures again this year.
Well Joe Bloggs just took a job at your competitor who he was taking out last year where he’ll easily make 7-figures with their Commission plan this year coming back to take all your customers..
Paying for results works. But what results and at what expense - getting that right rarely happens.

Thought of something like this a while ago.
A wedding event app to share guest photos with the bride and groom and also put up the photographers pics there after the event for guests to access. Avoiding the friction of sharing lots of photos across iOS/Android or having them all downscaled sending by messenger apps.
Put QR codes on the tables and guests can access an Insta style feed and upload their own pics to it, can stream it on the screens too.
Asians would go nuts for this.
