I don't know who isn't aware of where this is headed, but if your users can't install your app without an age verification check, then you can't distribute your app anonymously. You have to register your app, someplace, same way you currently register website domains.
This solves a legal problem they've been having with anonymous devs (and their bots) spreading malicious or broken software. There was no one to sue, when it went wrong, you see.

Kidding aside, I've long thought that Nostr would be better with more "Europeaness", and I have tried to add that.
More long-term projects. Less chase-the-hype. More listening and responding to users. Less get-rich-quick schemes. Less begging gazillionaires for a Big Zap, in exchange for something-something-Bitcoin or something-something-AI. More actually thinking up useful things and concepts for ordinary people, and taking the time and the care to build them.
More plodding, dull, hard-working dev and maintenance work. Something innovative is often wearisome to implement. It took us nearly 2 years, merely to get the 30040 kind described and prototyped. In that time, we have watched publishing projects flare up, collect cash and hype, and then die back down... And now they are gone, but we are still here. Still plodding along. As dull as we ever were, but now with thousands of books...

Humans tend to flourish most under capitalism in its early, distributed stage.
The most-successful modern economies are those that had governments that managed their market lightly, but enough to keep the wealth widely-distributed. Such as Western Germany, with its Wirtschaftswunder. Or those that simply conquered vast, new geographical areas or discovered extractive resources, and distributed that wealth to the citizenry, like the USA, Canada, Norway, or Australia. But this only slowed down the decline, and eventually led to government-sponsored private debt accumulation (student loans, long-term mortgages, debt forgiveness, etc.) to try to extend-and-pretend that the party wasn't over.

This is the opposite of communism, which starts out the most-effective but least-efficient (single consumer, single producer) and degrades from there, as the chronic inefficiency leads to the rise of alternative/black markets with new, additional consumers.
Capitalism starts out most-efficient but least-effective (higly-distributed wealth resulting in many consumers being served by many producers) and degrades from there, in the strive to gain effective market concentrations, i.e. monopolies.

You can see this Capitalist End Game in the open source space, as well. It truly reeks of economic decay. Wealth is concentrated in so few hands that the projects are mostly being funded by large donations from a small handful of the super-rich or mega-rich (persons or corporations, such as non-profits). Subscriptions are collapsing, individual donations are fewer in number.
Nothing but funds.
That means this small handful of people have effectively formed a controlling board over all of the open-source projects, so that we normal users are regularly being delivered things we didn't want, while the features we clamour for go unimplemented. When we complained about this, they didn't change it. Instead, they gave us AI and told us to volunteer our own time to each build the solution all of us wanted, resulting in 1926 half-broken copies of the same damn thing, produced at 1926 times the expense that 1 working thing would have costed us.
You could have just built what we wanted with the money we already gave you, but you didn't.
Even when donations are collected from smaller actors, they almost only go to that same controlling board. Which already has so much money that they struggle to find anything to spend it on, as a market with a single consumer is inherently inefficient. Humans naturally tend to give their money to entities who already have lots of it, so this effect continues to double-down.
But, nevermind. Carry on. The stock market is up.

Gov buys everything on credit, tho, as the mega-rich and large companies own all actual wealth, so the bullishness quickly gets eaten up by the inflation it creates to pay the interest on its credit.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
Because concentration of capital increases with every additional concentration of capital, and only governments can easily create money, capitalism inevitably trends toward communism: one consumer, one producer.

Think about it on a smaller scale:
1. You find someone breaking into your basement. They've busted up the place, and are now trying to use a crow bar to open your wall safe. You are completely justified with chasing him off the property and reporting him to the police, to make sure he doesn't return.
2. You find a homeless person, half-frozen and half-starved living in your wood shed. You should probably bring him some warm soup and call your pastor to figure out what to do with him. He can't just camp out in your wood shed, but it would be cruel to just chase him away.
Both of these men have knowingly and actively trespassed on your property, but only one had a criminal intent or was trying to cause you harm. I think that difference should matter, to Christians. And it certainly should matter to Catholics.

But a nation is a territory (i.e. a property) that houses a particular people _and their guests_. I don't think it's very Christian to toss your guests out onto the street, if they are generally well-behaved.
But I also think you should control who you allow in as a guest, and you should punish all uninvited guests. I don't think automatic deportation is the appropriate punishment for most uninvited guests. They aren't usually a threat to the nation, so banishment is a punishment unfitting the crime. They should have to plead guilty for trespassing, pay a hefty fine, and apply for a formal invitation, or something, with the nation withholding the right to deny it and deport.
Children (those under 18 or still attending secondary school) and pregnant women should not be deported, even if they misbehave, as they are protected classes.
I think we need more nuance in the whole discussion.

The USCCB argument is correct. The Constitution clearly allows birthright citizenship for anyone born in the country, whose parent(s) didn't explicitly refuse to enter the legal jurisdiction (i.e. diplomats, visiting military or political delegations, temporary visa holders, etc.) before arriving.
You would need to change the Constitution, if you want something different.

Instead of citizenship at birth (for anyone) do permanent residence for 18 years and then they can apply to have that extended for 10 years, or they can apply for citizenship. It is already the case that your US citizen parents can apply to get you a passport, if you are under 18 and not a citizen.
Make citizenship a formal, active process, based upon points, for everyone. If both of your parents are a citizen, you were born there and had your primary residence there your whole childhood, you get 100 points. And then scale down from there. Then raise the cost of citizenship by requiring every citizen to pay a high poll tax or sign up for the draft or be in public service. Or something like that.
And then see who signs up.
