I listened to these three episodes. There's one point of nuance you're missing with regards to who has power over the protocol.
The rolling set of people who receive bitcoin in exchange for something else hold all the power. They can override the developers, node operators, miners, and even exchanges.

There *were* protests and there are legitimate reasons for it, but the devil is in the details and the western media has been gaslighting and manufacturing consent for war, as always.
Americans plebs using this as a justification to bomb yet another country have made a massive miscalculation and are going to be on the receiving end of some seriously nasty blowback.

I've met quite a few in HK over the years but have only managed to speak with one guy in the last week. There was some level of dissatisfaction with the government before (nothing as broad as western media portrays though) but now basically everyone is united in support of the military, they don't want to become Libya or Iraq.
