I'm not sure what my "best" piece of advice would be, but here's some advice I could think of now:
- Use pine wood chips for their bedding, not straw
- Don't change their bedding as often during the winter; their droppings will naturally add a few degrees of warmth to their coop
- Give them lots of protein, like black soldier fly larva
- That being said, they also love scraps of food, like fruits and vegetables, but they'll typically avoid citrus fruits
- In their coop, make sure their roosting bars are flat, like a 2x4 set with its wider side up; chickens won't sleep as well if they have to grip on a bar all night, so give them a place to sleep that's raised up, and wide enough for them to spread out their toes (which will be really important in the winter, when they're need to keep their feet tucked under them to keep them warm)

Bitcoin always has been based on bushido, and the book on this topic explains a bushido that's based on Bitcoin.
Bushido is based on reality, which includes math. It's about the virtues that transcend both objectivity and subjectivity, and that which works best in bringing about the most goodness and beauty in the world.
Like the visual applications of the Fibonacci sequence throughout nature, Bitcoin's structure of proof of work, halvings, difficulty adjustments, etc, has a beautiful, mathematical elegance, founded firmly in the beautiful flow of reality.

Today marks exactly 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 from when I got into Bitcoin.
𝟭𝟬. 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. Honestly, it's hard for me to believe it. It feels like 5 years, at most.

The following is my story of how I got into Bitcoin, & what's followed since then up to this point. It's primarily for posterity, so if you're uninterested, please keep scrolling. But I'd still like it to be out there, so if you are interested, I hope you enjoy what follows.

I first heard the word "Bitcoin" in Feb 2014, while watching a YouTube video of an indy journalist cover current events. They said a subscriber had asked them to comment about Bitcoin, so they did, saying it was a Ponzi scheme, & warning their viewers to stay away from it. I thought that Bitcoin sounded like some new version of the old Nigerian Prince email scam, so I told myself to avoid it if I ever encountered it, shrugged it off, & promptly forgot about it...for the next year-and-a-half.
In early 2015, someone suggested I read "The Creature from Jekyll Island" to better understand why the Fed needs to be stopped. I found a free audiobook of it, & listened to it every day going to & from work (I was an assistant in a small retirement planning business). I remember the rage I felt against the Fed as I finished the audiobook. I could see that practically every problem in our society could be traced back to the creation of the Federal Reserve in some way. Ron Paul was absolutely right: we needed to end the Fed!
Just 2 days later, on 15 July 2015, my boss gave me an assignment to find news articles about the market, so he could comment on them during his weekly local radio show. I hit up MarketWatch & started searching through articles there. That was when I saw the title of a short article about Bitcoin. It was asking something along the lines of whether it would ever bounce back up (it was somewhere around $250 at the time). My first thought was "Bitcoin? Is that still a thing?" as I began scrolling past it.
What happened next I can only attribute to divine intervention.
I had grown up Mormon (though I'm no longer one), & had spent years feeling frustrated that very few would ever just give the Book of Mormon a chance, but would reject it without any thought or consideration. I had complained about such people for hours straight, often quoting Albert Einstein:
"Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance."
"How could they be so closedminded?!?" I'd ask, often ready to just give up on humanity entirely.
So as I began to scroll past the article about Bitcoin, my mind was suddenly reminded about all those things, & a small voice entered my mind & said, "How hypocritical of you." I froze in mid-scroll, realizing I was doing exactly what I had so long despised others doing. So I clicked on the article. It didn't say much, so it wasn't very helpful. I was still pretty sure that Bitcoin was a scam, so I decided to look into it more, until I found enough evidence that it was a scam, so I could warn others against it with some solid reasoning.
After work, I searched online for more info, & after sifting through YouTube & passing up a lot of clearly garbage videos, I found some excellent videos from Andreas Antonopoulos, who explained Bitcoin in clear, simple, & incredibly impactful ways.
As the days went by, I found that Bitcoin wasn't a scam, but I thought of a handful of ways that it could possibly fail. If I was wrong about those possible failure scenarios, though, then Bitcoin would have 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 implications for the future of our society. So I researched every perceived weakness I thought Bitcoin had, to see whether or not it was really a problem. I asked questions on public web forums, & got lots of great answers ( @npub1q5u…6dh3 was there; thank you!), & one by one, each of my concerns were snuffed out.
About 2 weeks later, I could think of no more possible vulnerabilities. I remember pure hope hitting me like a lightning bolt, as I realized we now had a powerful replacement for the fiat system. As F. A. Hayek put it, it was "a sly, roundabout way" that "they can't stop."

At the time, my wife & I were basically living paycheck-to-paycheck, so we didn't have much to exchange for Bitcoin. But I found I was able to spare $5, so I created a Coinbase account (it was 2015, so my options were very limited), & I bought my first $5 of bitcoin.
I immediately began telling others about Bitcoin, starting with my wife & kids. I made many common mistakes early on, like thinking the future was "crypto" or "Blockchain", & not just Bitcoin, but I never bought any other cryptos (mostly due to a lack of funds, at first).
As the blocksize war heated up, I was a big blocker at first, but as I learned more, & became a Bitcoin maximalist, I saw the wisdom of smaller blocks & SegWit. I spun up my first node on a laptop, specifically so I could help decentralize the network & support the UASF.
Around that time, I got a new job doing package deliveries for FedEx, which allowed me to listen to Bitcoin podcasts & audiobooks all day, & learn even more about Bitcoin. @npub1h8n…rpev's "Cryptoconomy" (now Bitcoin Audible) podcast was especially influential for me.
But nothing could've prepared me for the Bitcoin Standard, by @npub1gdu…6nak. I had initially gotten into Bitcoin b/c it changes the world from the outside-in by replacing the fiat system. But learning about time preference showed me it also changes 𝙪𝙨 from the inside-out!
When I was Mormon missionary, I wasn't concerned with the number of converts; instead, I focused on how I could help permanently fix many of the world's problems by helping people change from the inside out through Jesus, just as God had helped me in my younger years. So when I saw how Bitcoin naturally incentivizes low time preference, leading to many positive lifestyle changes—physically, socially, financially, mentally, emotionally, & even spiritually—I knew that Bitcoin was a much bigger deal than I had ever considered before.
I had already been "geeking out" about Bitcoin to my wife, coworkers, friends, extended family, neighbors, & pretty much anyone I spoke to. I had even created an online Bitcoin-only group on MeWe, where members could share news & educational content, & talk about Bitcoin.
In one of the podcasts I had listened to, I had also learned about the Japanese concept of "Ikigai", or one's purpose for living. Another way to think of it is the 4-way combo of:
- What you love
- What you're good at
- What the world needs
- What the world will pay for
With all the ways Bitcoin fixes the world from the outside in, & all the ways it fixes us from the inside out, along with my desire to help people change from the inside out, & my geeky enthusiasm for Bitcoin, I decided to take on a new online username: 𝘨𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘪𝘨𝘢𝘪
But after learning all this, & knowing how important it was to onboard as many people as possible, I felt trapped in a job that took up almost all my time. How was I ever going to live my Ikigai if I was stuck in a delivery truck all day long, for most days of the week?
In August 2021, I started getting cluster headaches, which are like migraines that are clustered in a small area on the the side of the head, & usually strike at night (but not always). These made me incapable of delivering packages safely, so I had to leave FedEx.
While looking for work & healing from my cluster headaches, I decided that I should finally meet other Bitcoiners in person. The only local meetup I found was crypto-centric, but I checked it out, anyway. They had 𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘤 levels of shitcoinery, so I left halfway through. So I created my own Bitcoin-only meetup for the Chattanooga area. On 1 October 2021, at block 703083, I started it with only myself, my oldest son, & 1 visitor there. That was all who showed up for the next few months, though the visitor was always a different person.
At the end of March 2022, I heard that @npub12ce…pm0f was looking for a couple volunteers to maintain their booth at the Bitcoin 2022 Conference. I still had no income, so going down to Florida to volunteer seemed insane, but I felt a spiritual "nudge" to do it anyway, so I did. Even with the shitcoiny stuff at the conference, it was unforgettable, & for me, simply life-changing. I got to meet many of the people who had helped me down the rabbit hole initially, & at the end of the conference, @npub12ce…pm0f offered me a job as their Community Manager.
I worked at @npub12ce…pm0f until July 2023, which was great, but I didn't agree with some of the things we wee doing. A friend of mine was working with @npub1dtg…up6m on @npub1tay…9l42, & they needed a Community Manager. So when they offered me the job, I excitedly accepted.
As the Community Manager for @npub1tay…9l42, I led the community in training the LLM on everything ever said about Bitcoin, & to answer questions the way Bitcoin maximalists would. Bitcoin education is closely tied to my Ikigai, so this project was pure joy to work on! One of my favorite mini-projects at the time was the 21 Questions book. I gathered the 21 most common & important questions about Bitcoin, & asked them of many well-known people in the Bitcoin space, along with @npub1tay…9l42, & compiled their answers into a single book.
But the @npub1tay…9l42 project wasn't very sustainable, so our team pivoted away from it, & to a genius idea of @npub1dtg…up6m's called @npub15xd…t3l3—a nostr-based combo of Trip Advisor, Nomad List, & Google Places. My role changed, & I became the "Ambassador Concierge". I love @npub15xd…t3l3, but I honestly felt like a fish out of water in my new role, as if I constantly needed to write with my left hand. Nothing was wrong with the business or anyone I was working with; I was just being called in another direction, & I was resisting it.
Last January, I had a lot of internal turmoil, & spent time praying, meditating, & working through my inner conflict. I visited El Salvador for the Plan ₿ Conference, where I spoke about @npub15xd…t3l3 at the Circular Economy Summit. There, I found the clarity I needed.
In El Salvador, I met many people doing exactly what I felt called to do. I also met old friends in ways that could not be mere coincidence. Combining these was enough to point me in the right direction, & inspire me to build a circular economy in the #Chattanooga area. This meant I had to leave @npub15xd…t3l3, though. So I stepped down from my position there in February, & immediately began building @npub1fdc…x779 from a small meetup (usually 6-12 attendees each month) to a nonprofit on a mission to turn #Chattanooga into a Bitcoin city.
It's had a slow start, but in the last few months we've gone from 1 business in the area accepting bitcoin to 7, & more are on the way. I'm now giving monthly Bitcoin workshops at a location downtown, & attending business expos, where I orange pill visitors to my booth. Another @npub1fdc…x779 initiative is what I'm calling Proof of Work. It'll provide flexible, part-time work that pays in sats, so participants can earn KYC-free bitcoin for savings. It's in the early stages & I'm working with a cleaning company. It's looking very promising!
A lot has happened in 10 years, & these were just highlights! Most of my 5 older kids (ages 11-18) can't remember a time before I discovered Bitcoin, & my 18-month-old was literally hearing about it before he was born! After me, he's the biggest Bitcoin geek in our family!

I think he meant trying to stack to a *total* of the current epoch's block reward; i.e., try to stack a total of 3.125 bitcoin before the halving in 2028.
If that fails, then I guess we can each try to stack 1.5625 bitcoin before the 2032 halving, or 0.78125 bitcoin before the 2036 halving, etc.
But even *that* might be too difficult for most people. It's still a worthwhile goal, though!

I wasn't going to respond to you at all. As a friend once said to me: "Never try to reason with the unreasonable." If -- despite my questions above that you never responded to, and hundreds of other everyday observations that would lead any sane and honest person to conclude that the Earth is a globe -- if after all that you still choose to bury your head in the sand and believe the Earth is flat, then there's nothing I can say here that could help you. But perhaps someone else will stumble on this conversation one day, and be persuaded to acknowledge the truth rather than the lies propagated by flat earthers, so there's a remote chance this will be worth it. Also, I unexpectedly had some extra time earlier today, so I decided to start tackling each of these one by one. Okay, here I go!
"Maybe start by explaining, with specificity, what gravity is and then pose an experiment once could perform in order to independently validate that claim."
Sure! Gravity is the force that pulls objects with mass toward each other. Back in 1798, a man named Cavendish demonstrated it in a lab by suspending two small metal balls on a wire and placing heavier balls nearby. The slight twist of the wire as gravity pulled them together let him calculate the force, and this experiment has been repeated with precision ever since. You could even try it with the right setup.
"Explain the CMBr."
The Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, or CMBr, is a faint glow of microwave energy coming from every direction in space. It demonstrates that the universe is spherical and expanding. You might question how everything began (which is great! That's the first step to scientific discovery -- just don't stop there, and don't fill in the rest with only what you want to see!), but this radiation is a real thing we can detect, and it doesn’t match a "universe" with a flat, unmoving Earth. Instead, it supports the idea that we live on a globe that’s part of a much larger universe.
"Explain the fact that not a single experiment exist to prove movement."
I'm assuming you mean the Earth's movement, and there are many simple experiments and observations that support a moving Earth. Take Foucault’s pendulum, for instance: a simple swinging weight that shifts its path over hours because the Earth is rotating beneath it. You can see this in action if you take the time to set up your own. Then there’s the Coriolis Effect, where the Earth’s rotation makes winds and ocean currents spin one way north of the equator and the opposite way south of it. Another one is called "stellar parallax", where nearby stars appear to shift slightly against the more distant ones as the Earth orbits the Sun, something astronomers have tracked since 1838. And let's not forget the sun, moon, and stars moving counterclockwise around the celestial north pole from the perspective of those in the northern hemisphere, clockwise around the celestial south pole from the perspective of those in the southern hemisphere, and simply straight east-to-west for those living along the equator.
"Explain long distance observations that in[v]alidate the curvature claim."
This is an old one! 😂 Probably based on the incorrect "8 inches per mile squared" formula, right? That math is only useful over short distances (it's still not correct in those instances, but the errors in such small areas are negligible, so it's good enough), and it measures the curvature of a parabola, not a globe. Much more importantly, that formula doesn't account for the observer's height, which allows us to see over the curvature of the Earth a little bit. The formula you should actually be using is a=√(r+h)²−r², in which "a" is the distance to the horizon, "r" is the Earth's radius (roughly equal to 3959 miles or 6371 km), and "h" is the eyesight level above mean sea level. Radio waves actually don't need a flat surface to travel as far as they do. They can hug the ground as surface waves, bounce off the ionosphere as sky waves, or even get trapped by weather patterns in something called "tropospheric ducting". Ham radio enthusiasts use these tricks daily to chat across continents, and no flat Earth is required.
"Try and dispute the kinematic and dynamic equivalence of the two proposed models."
Assuming that "the two proposed models" are the globe model the popular-yet-impossible flat Earth model with the north pole in the center and Antarctica surrounding the edge as an ice wall, the globe explains everything seamlessly and without any add-ons or exceptions, while the flat Earth model just doesn't, not even a little. From the Sun shining for 24 hours straight for many days in Antarctica during its summer, to there being a central location in the south (as well as the north) that anyone can find from any direction just by using the stars (and many have), to the flights from Santiago to Sydney over only water, to the pull of gravity being a little bit stronger at the poles than at the equator, to the movement of the stars changing as you travel north or south, to the ability to watch a sunset twice if you quickly rise to higher ground, to how seasons work, and on and on and on. None of these things are possible on any kind of flat Earth, but they're incredibly easy and straightforward on a globe.

So, when you put it all together, the evidence stacks up strongly for a globe Earth. Gravity keeps us in place and can be tested by anyone, the CMBr reveals a universe that’s expanding in every direction around us, experiments show the Earth spins on its axis and orbits around the sun, observations match a curved surface when you factor in the height of the observer, radio waves travel just fine around the globe's curve, and the flat Earth model can’t keep up with the facts we see every day. These are all reasons why I prefer to call flat Earth "FUD against reality".

As my favorite saying goes: "When an honest man discovers he is mistaken, he will either cease being mistaken or he will cease being honest." I've been mistaken about lots of things, and sometimes I chose to cling onto my pride and I ceased being honest. I later turned away from that, and chose instead to cease being mistaken, but it would have been so much easier if I had just chosen to cease being mistaken from the beginning. I don't know who you are, but still, for your sake, I hope you will make the right choice now, and avoid more regret/delusion later; that is, after all, what having a low time preference is all about. 😉

So is this your admission that the Earth is a globe? You said he forgot his fisheye lens, and yet the image clearly shows a faded dip on the right and the left, when compared to the center. And that's only 50 miles up! That's still incredibly close to the ground, considering how huge the Earth is (regardless of its shape).
Until you or other flat earthers can explain how a 24-hour sun in the Antarctican summer is possible, and how a single airplane can fly from Santiago to Sydney while only flying westward over water (and in only 13.5 hours, no less!), and whether the Ceremonial South Pole is closer to South America, Africa, or Australia, you and other flat earthers have nothing to stand on. If you ignore these problems with flat earth, then you are not interested in truth, but only in listening to and spreading lies.

Definitely misinterpretation. The Hebrew word that's often translated as "firmament" simply means "expanse", and can refer to an ocean, a field, a desert, etc. In fact, in Genesis 1: 20, the Hebrew language describes birds flying *over* the firmament. If the firmament is the expanse of land and/or water beneath them, this makes perfect sense, but if it's a dome above them, then it makes no sense at all.

It's also worth pointing out that I believe in an infinite God, the Creator of an infinite number of stars, planets, and galaxies. Such a Being is definitely worth my devotion. But a being that only created this little dome, and then makes us think we're seeing a sun, moon, local planets, and distant stars that all have the appearance and behavior of spheres but are actually just projections on the little dome, sounds like not only a finite being but a deceiver, and not a god at all, but much more like one of the false "gods" the Bible repeatedly warns against. But that's just my 2 sats.

I just got back from a networking meetup for small business owners in downtown Chattanooga. I met a lot of interesting people and collected a lot of business cards.
But everyone -- and I mean 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚 -- was interested in what I'm doing at @npub1fdc…x779.
Across the board, from my own mother to the homeschooling families I taught last week, to the business owners I networked with this morning, I'm finding that people are interested in Bitcoin, but they're also too scared to look into it too deeply. What if they get bad information from an untrustworthy source? What if they make a mistake and buy a scam coin, or they buy Bitcoin and lose their private key? There are so many what-ifs and unknowns, the general public feels too intimidated and lost to take a step forward into this mysterious world.
There has never been a better time to teach about Bitcoin and demystify it for the general public. If we don't take advantage of this opportunity, then the crypto scammers most certainly will.
