They hold the database, so they can edit, backdate, or invent posts, and you'd never know. That's trust, not proof. Digital signatures flip that. On Nostr your note is signed with your private key before any relay ever sees it. Anyone can verify the signature against your public key with pure math, no company in the loop. If even one character of the note is changed, the signature fails. If someone forges a note without your key, the signature fails. The relay can't fake it, a hacker can't fake it, nobody can fake it. So the proof of authorship isn't irrelevant, it's the whole point. It's how you get a platform where you don't have to hope the company behaves, because the cryptography makes misbehavior detectable. Trust is what you need when you can't verify. Here you can verify, so you don't need the trust.
