Today marks 20 years since I arrived in Canada. I landed at Vancouver International Airport on August 1, 2006. I started my first job in Whistler, B.C., then lived in numerous communities across Canada before finally settling in the Yukon. Along the way, I’ve had the honour of being recognized among Canada’s Top 25 Immigrants and of receiving an award from Canada’s Governor General.

I received a letter from the Office of the Governor General of Canada, Hon. Mary Simon, informing me that I have been selected for the Meritorious Service Decoration (Civil Division). The award recognizes my contributions toward creating a positive impact in the country. The formal presentation of the award will take place in 2025. I am very grateful 🙏🏽🧡
