It should be thought of as matters of degree of custody, degree of risk tolerance, separation of concerns and asymmetry of incentives.
The mint operator is incentivized to keep honest in order to continue receiving lightning revenues. One should not possess more than a few thousand sats in a cashu mint, or whatever amount you are tolerant to risk. You can offload your excessive balance into a self-custodial lightning wallet, such as Zeus. If you are a serious user, you can run your own mint - even one on your phone connected to your own lightning channels.
For onboarding users, using a centralized mint should be sufficient - because firstly, you aren't advocating any particular mint, and secondly, a new user shouldn't need to worry about self custody right out the gate because it's complicated, and thirdly, moving to true self-custody is part of the learning experience.

Yes, Spark is problematic. It has zero privacy between the wallets and the operators, the wallets are single-key so there is no pseudonymity between the wallet and the operatirs and it requires permission to enter by way of the operators and lightning gateways.
On the other hand, theoretically it has a unilateral exit provision.
Lightning is superior to spark in almost every way except it does not require channel management or onchain transactions to begin using it.
On the other hand, there is little privacy or potential KYC difference between using an LSP and Spark.

This is another thing altogether. #Amethyst has a separate DM Inbox setting, but some other clients do not (maybe primal?). The side effect could be what you're seeing.
I'm referring to the "inbox model" originally devised by @nprofile…nq40 in the @nprofile…t6ps.
The idea is that you post your notes to your Outbox relays, and you read reactions and responses to your posts from your Inbox relays. This way your Outbox relays could be "read only" to the world, ones you pay for or control and are less likely to be censored, and you tell your followers to respond in the "Inbox" relays the "public" can write to and where you check for responses.
The problem is that most people set their Inbox and Outbox relays to the same relays, where their Inbox relays can't be written to without a subscription. This breaks the outbox model. One should not put paid-only relays in your Inbox relay set, unless they allow responses to your posts (which, in general, I think they should).

Here is an idea to handle offline receive through lnaddress -
Zeus could unify its LDK and Cashu capabilities by turning its Lightning Address endpoint into a conditional settlement layer. When a sender resolves a user’s LN address, the Zeus backend would first check the availability of the user’s LDK node. If the node is online and reachable, it returns a standard Lightning invoice generated by the LDK wallet, allowing direct, non-custodial settlement over the user’s existing channels and LSP. If the node is offline, instead of failing the receive path, the endpoint returns a Lightning invoice issued by a configured Cashu mint. The sender still experiences a normal Lightning payment, but settlement occurs at the mint, which issues eCash tokens associated with the user.
On the client side, Zeus already has the primitives to complete the loop. When the mobile device comes back online, the wallet detects pending mint-issued tokens (via blinded messages or encrypted delivery) and automatically redeems them into the user’s local wallet or converts them back into Lightning liquidity as appropriate. This creates a seamless dual-mode receive path: synchronous, self-custodial Lightning when online, and asynchronous, mint-buffered receipt when offline. The result is a single LN address that preserves sovereignty under availability while eliminating failed payments due to node downtime, effectively bridging Lightning’s real-time constraint with eCash’s store-and-forward model without exposing complexity to the sender.

I had a good little speech set up for a cadet.
He was in review board with two other cadet superiors reviewing his application for promotion to technical sergeant. I was the mandatory senior member.
He wrote about how he wants to improve in his concentration, communication and study skills.
He wrote about how he can't get himself to study.
I could tell on his application, he hadn't written much of anything in school. His handwriting was atrocious, and couldn't spell even simple words. He used made-up abbreviations rather than misspelling some longer words.
I kept thinking "I can't remember any black boys his age bracket."
Then a young white boy came in and saluted.
When I was in 7th grade, the only kids who were that set back from neglect were black, but that was a long time ago. Today even the white boys can't read and write.
He was shaking in his boots, trembling. He didn't know who I was. He didn't know I was his buddy's dad. But he plowed through it, he eventually calmed down.
He talked about how he wanted to be a better "communicator" and asked "how do I talk to people?" He said he couldn't concentrate on the programs reading material for the awards because he kept wanting send his attention back to his game console in his bedroom, and messaging his friends. He continued on, he looked like his spirit had been broken long ago.
After the cadet commander and first sergeant were through with him, I explained to the boy how to study like a man.
I said, "People learn differently: through seeing, through hearing and through doing. When you are reading in a book, set out to study, and you are distracting yourself and want to crawl back into your comfort zone: back to the online world, back to messaging your friends, back to your Minecraft world, back to YouTubes and podcasts; read out loud, or read it to yourself in your head, like you can hear yourself think, then write notes. Write the notes about what YOU are thinking about and what you think about what you just read. Don't just copy down things word for word, that is boring. No, write what you get out of it.
When you notice yourself wanting to go back to your comfort zone, think of it as someone that is not you that is trying to hold you down, to keep you from succeeding at what you want to get done.

I can tell you are dedicated to this program, you wouldn't have gotten this far if you weren't. You show up every week, you try hard, but you think the things that seem impossible are only hard for you.
But the things you are talking about are the problems everyone has, you aren't the only one. You can overcome these fears and anxieties. You do it by plowing through it. I have to plow through things I don't want to do, and if I don't and let someone else do it for me, I still can't do it myself the next time. You ignore those feelings and know they are only trying to hold you back. The only way to overcome it is to go through it. You will eventually get used to it, then you will forget about it. But you first have to plow through it, then it will get easier, and it's the same for everyone."
