I was providing questions one could ask oneself before posting something to determine whether it is "abuse".
they will not provide perfect answers, but all of human interaction is gray. as you said, we're different. but we do this offline all the time.
my experience is that most people online have no problem doing this most of the time. for some, they fail when they are triggered. it only seems to be an "all the time problem" for edgelords and those who they entertain.

imo you're overthinking it. few even slightly right survive on mainstream fedi because none of the major servers will federate with a server with such users. so those users/servers either become part of the separate fedi (jerk fedi) dominated by assholes who want to bother people and should not be allowed to, or they go to X, truth etc.

because relays are intended to be bigger and there to be less of them afaik. I love that it's pretty easy to throw up a server and should get easier. same with moving your account. it's also understandable that someone would start a server if they have their own website and email using their own domain name. that's something I see most companies, orgs, govs and especially journalistic outlets doing (if the fedi wins!)

I think old #Twitter could be called "the social network for news" and it functions like a natural monopoly. It only works works well if all journalists, newsmakers and concerned citizens are on the same network. He fucked around but I think we're still actually in the early days of Elon figuring out how to work the levers to maximize his advantage. And somehow very few seem to be thinking this through or caring enough to compromise and work together with rivals to do anything to fix this.

The concern over the #blueskybridge is another example of #fediverse gentrification (that I support). Being here felt like a big #privacy improvement when it was small and obscure compared to the corporate platforms. But it's like the rest of the open web, public and scrape able. It's not behind a paywall.
The fedi is an awesome place and as more people figure that out, it will grow and change. But we need to have the big conversation about what this place is and what our different visions are.

maybe I don't understand. if you only have a rock, you still might be able to kill someone. guns make it easier. it's fine to limit access to these more effective tools for killing. you can kill with car but more with a semi. it's harder to get a license to drive a semi. it should be harder to have legal access to a gun than a rock. and harder still to get a fully automatic weapon. etc.

where guns are more available, more people die from them (all things considered). it overrides any concept of knowing you might also get shot. places like Chicago get their guns from Indiana and Wisconsin. Hawaii has strict laws and they work. the problem in the US is that most state borders are easy to cross and too many have bought the gun/freedom propaganda to do what's necessary federally.

in econ, they call them negative externalities. when you own the coal plant and sell me electricity and somebody else now has to clean their shirts daily from the soot you produce, that's a great deal for us cause the total cost isn't being factored into the transaction. they win by effectively cheating.
pollution should not be a cost that others suffer directly or we all have to clean up after as a govt and pay for with taxes. a fair market would actually favor nuclear imo.

I have an instance because I want to engage with people who are not assholes but do post perspectives and news that many instance admins think should not be accessible. I don't really want my own instance but instead want my view of moderation to be dominant on the #fediverse. That the goal is getting the best ideas, information and art as decided by everyone to go viral. That blocking and harassment both make this less likely, but letting people stumble upon misinfo or hurtful ideas does not.

As regards the two-year-old conflict between Ukraine and Russia, Obama said in 2016 that Ukraine is a core interest for Moscow, in a way it isn't for the US. "We have to be very clear about what our core interests are and what we are willing to go to war for.”
After he left, we trained and gave them lethal aid. Russia sees this as a threat on their border, as we would if Mexico was belligerent and China trained/armed them. Sadly, this only ends when we stop supporting Ukraine.

I was very skeptical until they finally federated. I think their heart is in the right place. AFAIK they wanted to crack the code on good social media but also be a venture capital start-up superstar. Not sure where they are now.

Find people to follow on #minds. Let's make them a big part of the #fediverse. A demonstration of how all these other social networks can become part of one seamless whole. Flip the script and make it seem weird for platforms to not do this, or for someone to be using a service that doesn't federate. Please focus more on the larger network than the few people anywhere you might disagree with (as long as they aren't abusive).

lots of alternative media is shit. conspiratorial nonsense. but the fact that it also has less money and attention behind it leads lots of people to dismiss it when they shouldn't. alternative media is also less encumbered by the need to comfort the comfortable. the problem many make is that they over index on this real concern, rejecting too much much of the mainstream and reflexively accepting too much that challenges it. same elements at play here imo.

looking at what worked in history is what a "mob" does. then the "mob" builds institutions and has classes in civics. and structures government to have representatives and check and balances. we are the fucking mob not doing all the shit you have to claim we will do to justify putting your boot on most of our necks.

liberalism thinks we can best figure out the best way to organize society, together. hardcore leftism and "your way" both assume to know the answers, and are fine with limiting the input of others in the conversation. the popularity of both concepts depends on believing one will be part of the "deciders" or your views will be represented either way. it's just as unrealistic as thinking everybody will work hard under true communism or ancapistan won't become Mad Max.

out of how many people/shots? if somebody had a heart attack the day after they refused to take it, it wouldn't show up here, right? but if they did take the shot, it would and you'd assume that was the cause. they should be transparent on all this but when people don't make that distinction, you can understand their reluctance to do so.
