Driving it into a stone at random, and still finding a stone that is soft enough to let itself be cut into without bending the sword so that it gets stuck only by the tip, but still hard enough to just enclose the sword as if it were butter without splitting open like a loaf of bread, is mighty lucky indeed
Not saying the legend is real, but odds of this happening are nearly zero. Also, the sword hasn't rusted a bit while it could have been ruined pretty fast before they built the cathedral there

@nprofile…2g7j @nprofile…66xn Actually, you can drill a hole to the outside somewhere nearby where your PC is, run the cable through it, fill the hole with silicone, then, from the outside, run the cable down to your living room, drill another hole to run the cable to the inside again, fill the second hole with silicone, and now you have a cable that mostly runs on the outside and connects your TV to your PC
Once it's working you may want to encase the cable on the outside with some PVC pipe for extra protection. If you ever need to replace the cable, you can easily scrub the silicone away
You just need a drill and a silicone injector pistol. May also double in utility if you want to run an Ethernet cable outside if you want to put some cameras around

@nprofile…2g7j @nprofile…z3d6 What happens oftentimes is that people get turned down from every job (Usually not because of their fault, but because they prefer upping requirements to unattainable levels, see 5 years exp for entry level, while hiring h1bs or illegals or similar types through the backdoor with the excuse they can't find proper candidates), and, after spending years being turned down while getting called lazy or loosers at every step, they eventually get mind broken enough they fully internalize the "lazy looser" mindset and their mind just sort of adapts itself
I'd say it was the 2008 downturn (Which worsened an already pretty poor job market) to kickstart early neet culture the way we see it today. Mostly people coming of age in the late 2000s were the unwilling founders, but it was caught up by latecomers too

@nprofile…2g7j In the States things like this are done all the time, without even going into the refund fraud territory, although many will tell that if you're willing to pay for it, it's sort of your fault in the end
You can also forget the scalping, and just cancel your late reservation when you finally get the cube from a scalped reservation instead. Again, another cultural difference: if you got money to burn, you can allow yourself to live on the edge
But, I'd say, if you really (Really) want it, you can burn the additional 500 bucks scalp. You already sold your Deck and made some money from it, so it's actually less than that

@nprofile…2g7j Not financial advice, but even assuming the bubble finally pops tomorrow, it will take months at best for factories to retool themselves to switch production from data center memory to mobo memory, not to mention that realistically they won't be looking forward to doing that and their foremen will be dragging their feet all the way, and realistically not all contracts will be rescinded at once
Assuming there's no hardware price collapse within 18 months, and assuming your own reservation will jump ahead within 14 months, you should have enough time to do a little scalping yourself
Of course, I realize there's cultural differences at play and you may not be comfortable doing those switch and resale plays, but hey, just offering my two cents :akkoshrug:

@nprofile…2g7j Basically synthesized chemicals...the rule of thumb is that if you can grow olive trees in your area you use olive oil, which is a cheaper than handling animals, otherwise animal fats all the way.
Seed oils didn't become common before chemical extraction was developed, and you can bet they don't properly purify yields from chemical residues after extraction

Flatpak ships with a self-contained glibc environment and anything else it needs as required by flatpak packagers
See it the other way: You don't want an app with internet access being able to list and be able to upload whatever is on your home directory (And potentially beyond), not to mention any other info about your system that you might not want it to know, or letting it being able to do trace calls to your kernel if you set your permissions too lax.
With things like Steam, you're normally giving an huge proprietary blob with full internet access read and write permissions into your entire home directory, not to mention direct hardware access and plenty more. Flatpak can reduce your exposure there

You could otherwise attempt a wallpaper slideshow, but you will need to fiddle to get widgets out, and you'll probably need to do custom scripting to keep a good enough setup
Old-style CRT screen savers would indeed be the solution here, but I have to bet they're another lost technology that somehow can't be implemented. Not to mention that if they attempted it today it would probably require 50 libraries and use 20% of your GPU capacity :aaaaaa:

And yes, some of them were masked. I remember a guy that went as "Ninjalexi Laiho" that did Children of Bodom covers and was always covered in a way to resemble a ninja, but his long hair flew out and he kinda looked like a masked Laiho
It all went down the drain once music corporations started enforcing that covers that were too good actually were copyright infringement, and automated strikes followed

@nprofile…6g30 If you wanna do trades, remember to take the high salary figures with a grain of salt: those that make that much are either self-employed, or work into leftover union-protected jobs (The latter were way more common until they started shipping factories overseas)
You can start with those, but do keep in mind you'll have to grind for 2-3 years at least to become skilled enough (Basically, if you started right out of high school, that grind would be your sort of college). After getting out of that entry level pit (Which will probably be little above minimum wage), things can improve, but not by much. You then have to get into a union ASAP (But unions will usually ask for references. You really would need someone to guarantee for your, better if it's a family member). Otherwise, it's self-employment camp
Do be sure they're actually teaching you things, if they treat you like an amazon worker, then they're scamming you. They need to put tools in your hand and slowly teach you what and how to do. And careful with gas exhales and the like. Study a bit recommendations to avoid health risks

In the USA, that ran only for a short time. By the end of the 1800s, there were already giant corporations selling bottled water and bottled drinks. That was even easier than bothering to make beers and the likes, and once the prohibition came, only bootlegging remained. Those that didn't have modern plumbing (In the USA many drink straight from the faucet) or a decent well, just drank what they could buy, and early colas were cheaper because no alcohol tax, and no prohibition
Elsewhere, things mostly kept going as they were, sometimes because modern sanitation came later (Maybe too late for it to became acceptable drinking from the faucet, if bottled water came in at about the same time), sometimes because there never was that big if a push into manufacturing bottled drinks, so they stuck with beers

@nprofile…kz2s In the USA people drink energy drinks way more than your average alcoholic drink, and even alcoholic drinks they serve are completely different from what you find elsewhere
Fact is, there was a prohibition for a very long time, and that had a radical impact on people's lives. That, and the fact that big drink corps are way more interested in marketing sugary drinks than anything else. Well into the 70s, your average Southern worker lunch was a coke drink and a moon pie, that would never fly anywhere else
It's that big corporations have had way more of an impact on local culture than elsewhere. Abroad, things are closer to historical realities. In the USA, big corporations have shaped such historical realities directly, and things are different

Energy drinks as Internet memes started a bit later. I remember in 2009 someone publishing a mod for Fallout 3 where they had added green monster cans as consumables, that was my first encounter with that memery, and I'm guessing it had been going for a while already.
Then probably it was 4chan threads that spread this memery far and wide, and reddit copying 4chan memes ensuring it crawled into the normie realm.
It even spawned similar memes, for example the Arizona Iced Tea seen in Vaporwave is related, although it's not really an energy drink per se. Once they made the boomer meme with the white monster can it reached the apex.
But, the problem is that in the USA there's a sort of gas station culture where gas stations also be convenience stores (This because zoning for mixed development is rare, so it's either giant malls and gas stations or giant suburbs, usually, no middle ground). That, and the fact that many Americans being overweight will crave for sugary foods

As for the 4K, it actually reached streaming platforms already in 2010, although probably this wasn't enough to justify it if the movie had already been mostly made. Also 3D was still raging

@nprofile…46gc The problem is the guy running duck station later withdrew his statements on his discord, and said he just doesn't want people to package software in ways he doesn't like
I dunno how a guy like that managed to get a CS degree (According to his github) and still act like software isn't something that just gets copied and distributed at all times. Never mind the fact he doesn't do any of the Linux stuff because, as he admits it, he doesn't use Linux, so it's just other maintainers doing compatibility on their own time and dime.
Not to mention his whole change of license gimmick that got him angry because people were doing forks, acting like he's not on github. It's as if he doesn't really know how it works, despite having a CS degree.
It's a problem common to Windows-only developers (Or Mac-only, I guess), really. They fully absorb Microsoft's way of doing things even though they don't gain anything from it, and they just keep going.

@nprofile…6g30 That's how it used to be. You could get a semi-decent job right out of highschool with average grades at best (Actually, no one cared about grades). Even college dropouts had chances, although they usually had to toil a while longer on worse off tasks.
Then, you could be somewhat sure to stay on one place forever, and even make some career out of it. Nothing fancy, of course, but still enough to become homeowner in your 20s
And then you could get married because there literally was nothing else to do, and fathers all wanted to find good enough men to take their daughters in.
There were none of degrees, GPAs, colleges, going coast to coast, rents eating out your income, and all that shit. They never knew how good they had it

@nprofile…6g30 You could try at local, smaller companies, which have to make do with high school dropouts daily.
They're less strict about "You need to have exactly this degree, from exactly these colleges, with this GPA minimum, otherwise you're out". You can be semi-honest and tell them you've learned enough to know the corporate life is not your thing. Bonus points if their HR is boomer ladies (The sweeter non-karen kind)
Anyway, congrats on learning why most people eventually drop it/tech to do something else before getting into it/tech at all :airiwink:
