It's an just something I usually have to hand! npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow A giant Tunnock's teacake, like one from the finale of Thursday's opening ceremony for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, on display in Kelvingrove Park. However, it's estimated he gave away 90% of his wealth, including providing funding for the construction of 2,059 libraries around the world between 1883 and 1929. #glasgow #architecture #architecturephotography #library #maryhill npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow Maryhill Public Library in Glasgow. Built in 1903, it was one of the first wave of libraries built in the city using funds provided by Andrew Carnegie, and is one of seven designed by James R. Rhind. While Carnegie libraries elsewhere in the UK were primarily brick-built, those in Scotland, like this one in Maryhill, were mostly built from stone. The bust is designed in such a way as to fool the brain, and as a result as you walk past it, it suddenly changes from disappearing into the wall to standing out from it and before flipping back again. On the right is a rather non-descript modern equivalent. For me, one of the main differences between the two is that the one of the left screams Glasgow the moment you see it, while the one on the right could be anywhere. This mid-19th Century Early English Gothic church, which is now part of the Renfield Centre, is as impressive inside as out, and features this rather beautiful modern stained glass window. #glasgow #stainedglass #architecture #church #architecturephotography https://media.mastodon.scot/media_attachments/files/116/380/481/850/178/624/original/d52ad072ad645129.jpg npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow Love this 'invisible' wall on the Burrell Collection in Pollok Park on the Southside of Glasgow. Designed in the 1970s and opened in 1983, the glass reflects the surrounding trees, while allowing as much light as possible into the building itself. #glasgow #burrellcollection #architecture #architecturephotography #pollokcountrypark https://media.mastodon.scot/media_attachments/files/116/317/859/674/735/483/original/3dac1b8378c865bf.jpg npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow This is not a good scene to wake up to, but at least no one in the building or any firefighters were hurt. The neighbouring Central Station, a key element of Victorian Glasgow and an important hub for modern communters, is closed, but is hopefully unharmed. #glasgow #glasgowtoday #fire #unionstreet #glasgowcentral npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow Love this Greetings from Glasgow mural on the side of the Garage Night Club on Sauchiehall Street. Built in 1937, it was designed by William Beresford Inglis, who later went on to manage and own it. The Beresford has an unexpected place in American 20th Century politics as it was here in 1939 that a 22 year old John F. Kennedy (who would go on to become president) gave his first official public speech. #glasgow #architecture #architecturephotography #sauchiehallstreet #jfk https://media.mastodon.scot/media_attachments/files/115/746/754/658/407/676/original/7621c66286bc125f.jpg npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow Late this afternoon at the Riverside Museum in Glasgow. #glasgow #architecture #architecturephotography #riversidemuseum #reflection https://media.mastodon.scot/media_attachments/files/115/622/565/316/077/994/original/c9eef1c73ce92cb3.jpg npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow Today I visited Glasgow's only known pair of architectural walruses as they're amongst my favourite sculptures in the city. A few years ago I was daft enough to set myself the challenge of running a half marathon every month for 60 months in a row. This will be number 48 (if I can make it round in this wind!). #glasgow #running https://media.mastodon.scot/media_attachments/files/113/740/686/133/444/968/original/c222b6dee59b1313.jpg npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow A street scar on a cobbled street in the West End of Glasgow. That was just the 1960s movie (I think). Instead, the book postulates they originated in a Soviet research laboratory. 🙂 npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow Love this ecclesiastical grotesque which appears to be pulling itself through the wall of Shawlands Cross Church on the Southside of Glasgow. #glasgow #shawlands #churches #architecture #glasgowbuildings #scottishchurches #grotesque #gargoyle #sculpture https://media.mastodon.scot/media_attachments/files/113/655/984/498/382/488/original/c0cbd414bbf0934a.jpg npub1904tzc22w2nra46qss9emd3k37n0fx58y50kne2upnj3lzy6u4msfytf7j This Is My Glasgow Here in Glasgow, we're meant to stand on the left of escalators and walk on the right. Why do people from London find this so odd (to the point some just don't believe we do it differently than they do)? What's the convention in other parts of the world? And does everyone Glasgow follow this rule? #glasgow #london #escalator #escalators #centralstation https://media.mastodon.scot/media_attachments/files/112/998/523/755/616/297/original/d91c4d74c632b6f4.jpg
