Last Notes npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Unfortunately, the episodes in youtube don't have English subtitles. But this whole 6 minute scene (starting 21:19) of the abandoned station has basically no dialog. And it's way creepier than any actual horror movies from the 50s or 60s I've seen. It's all lighting and camera movement, with just the smallest bit of sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftDXbIDfce8#t=29m19s npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Final Fantasy X is the peak of early 2000s tropical beach games. We really should bring that back. If we are only allowed to buy grey clothing, grey cars, black computers, and white kitchen appliances, there's no reason we have to accept a world without color in our fantasy worlds as well. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…u3al No PC? npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I was thinking about whether it would be possible to combine the nice colors of 2D sprite games like Albion and Super Star Wars with the crude PS1 3D graphics and make it look good. And remembered that it actually had been done before. I really didn't have Spyro the Dragon on my list of games I could use as references for my game. 😄 npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Sci-fi pen and paper RPG people! What are your favorite systems for space combat? I'm particularly interested in anything that has more resemblance with cruiser battles than starfighter battles. #ttrpg npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Any space nerds here know about a calculator to estimate the energy requirement for a suborbital flight to travel 10,000 km between two points on the surface of the Earth? #space #scifi #rockets npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I know Wikipedia has to keep storage space for images in mind. But I feel any page for a videogame should have at least one screenshot of the main game screen that is at least 320x240 big. Only very few pages do. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…3rqu Yes. People who have games magazines from the early 90s nearby could really help a lot with this. 😉 npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora And maybe that's why they rely so heavily on school kids to man their stalls, because people know it's pointless to confront them about it, as they clearly don't know anything and have no line to management. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…dgz6 We can still fork Web 2. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Okay "Decimate" is magic. I decimated the vertices down to 1,100 and while I can see a flicker when it gets applied, I can't really tell a visible difference. So this is something I will have to do on every asset with more than 100 vertices as the final step. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Or this might still be way too high. 🫤 I still don't understand how most of this works. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I made this. The longer I look at it, the more amazing it feels. This is 99% all made entirely by me. The main trunk in the shadow is a free PBR material I turned into a flat image texture, and I am using 80% of a geometry node arrangement I got from a tutorial. But every needle and every branch is something I build from scratch with vertices and nodes. That it took me 3 months of learning and practice to get to this instead of 3 month feels unreal. https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/863/591/131/025/687/original/e86855dea9e7ee9f.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…kasn @nprofile…sm4q Grid is set at Scale 1.0 and Subdivision 10, as always. I now did make a new file and append all the objects from the old one, which did seem to bring everything else from the old file with it. So now I'm just continuing with a new file where everything is normal. But no clue what got messed up with the original file. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…g0zs Is Microslop actually trying to continue Xbox? Because everything they do looks like they are liquidating their entire games division. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Okay, here is a theory: The tiler node creates a grid with the dimensions Tile X and Tile Y. Each of these tiles is either fully masked out, or it is not. To check if a tile is masked, the node checks the input that from the masking texture at the very first coordinate in the upper left corner. If coordinate 1,1 of a tile corresponds to a black coordinate on the masking texture, the entire tile gets masked. If it's white, the entire tile is left unmasked. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Material Maker, I am very confuse... I get why a 2x2 Pattern produces a 4x4 checkerboard pattern. (It's only checkerboard when there's at least 2x2 squares.) But why does 4x4 checkerboard input used as a mask for 6x6 tiles result in this? None of the masks I get from different pattern scales or tiling rows and columns make any sense. #gamedev https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/782/776/041/395/072/original/0e7bbeb79b12a267.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…3qlr I feel the most important thing is to simply not have one corner or edge of the texture have a different average brightness from the others. And procedural noise based colors help a lot with that. Having visible repetition is not that bad, but when it starts to produce banding I find it unacceptable. Even just having bricks repeat every 2 meters instead of every 1 meter already goes a long way. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…3qlr I did find this one Material Maker tutorial. I don't really understand all it does on the first run. But I think it covers pretty much everything I've been thinking I could want from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oWd65Kwv5c npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I got this texture mapping issue in #Blender and running out of ideas what could be causing it. A simple Boolean through a cube. I checked and recalculated normals and merged duplicate vertices. And it seems to work normally at any rotation, except when the vault is aligned exactly with the x-axis. Rotating by 90° to be aligned with the y-axis also functions correctly. Anyone an idea what might be causing this? #b3d #3dmodelling https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/777/090/017/699/649/original/b7e288fa870d863a.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…mms7 Are there any in Britain? AI? npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora When they created 16 color EGA graphics, why did two of them have to be magenta? So much garish pink everywhere. #retrographics npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora You can hide and unhide objects in the Godot editor and they appear and disappear live in the game preview while it's running?! This is going to be so helpful with troubleshooting. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…qcgs @nprofile…sm4q I've heard geometry nodes is a huge can of worms that shouldn't be touched unless absolutely necessary. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…sm4q I was just wondering if there's some kind of node that detects the dimensions of a face and then applies a scale of x pixels per meter. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…sm4q But if I have one object in which a face is 1m by 1m, and another object with a face that is 20m by 20 m, wouldn't the second object's UV have to extend 19 times beyond the edges of the texture image? It works, but gets annoying when you have only the grid tiled in the UV editor but not the texture image. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…ggeh @nprofile…jj29 People will learn when Tesla and SpaceX go bankrupt. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I was thinking "this is also the years before the internet." But it also happens to be "the four years where I would read two or three PC games magazines every months". That might have something to do with there being considerably more games that I consider titles that everybody knows... npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I even have statistically proven that the Golden Age of Videogames was from 14 to 18. 😅 https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/750/441/532/873/470/original/3a5e850d0189215c.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…55ge Apparently, Godot doesn't actually use the png texture files, but converts them into some internal form of file format. Though I have no idea if that will make the file sizes smaller or larger, or by how much. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora There's probably something silly about me being worried that my 90 wall and floor textures are already over 150 MB. Only 4% of even an old potato's VRAM. But this is going to escalate quickly when I start making trim sheets with normal maps and NPC and creature resources. Would a purely hypothetical and probably implausible computer with 4 GB VRAM be able to handle 2 GB of textures on top of dynamic lighting? (I know nothing about graphics hardware. 😅 ) npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…qhlc Going beyond reasonable has a good chance of revealing the edge cases. Which might happen in rare situations under normal conditions, when you don't want them to. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora New Post: Making simple 2D textures from 3D models in Blender for 90s-style retro graphics. https://iridiummoons.com/2026/06/06/making-simple-2d-textures-from-3d-models-in-blender/ #Blender #b3d #Raw3D #retrographics #PS1 npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…3zxe @nprofile…0jct Usually the advice on getting pixelation for PS1 graphics is to turn the texture filtering interpolation from Linear to Closest, but this affects only the Base Color of the object and none of any additional effects one might want to add. With this approach, changing texture filtering is no longer needed. Another convenience of this approach is that the original resolution of the texture doesn't matter, and the pixel size can be adjusted on the fly in the Divide node. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…3zxe @nprofile…0jct I think I basically got it now how to get kind of texture noise as in Quake and Silent Hill for 90s retro game graphics in #Blender. The key to pixelation in procedural textures are the three nodes on the right. Not 100% sure how they work, but they take the UV map of the object and split it into distinct squares. Feed that as the vector into all your texture nodes, and they all come out with the same pixelation. #Raw3D #3Dmodeling #PS1graphics #retrographics https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/691/634/423/854/826/original/1358573efa54549e.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…vmag But does that apply uniformly for the entire loaded map? Or is area here individual zones within the same map? I am thinking of things like dropping a flare down a hole with gravity anomalies and going in crazy loops as it falls. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I really shouldn't be doing anything too weird and fancy with my first game, but I really want to have this area from Thief, but having the gravity actually follow the curving wall. I know nothing about Godot coding, but the logic could be quite simple. Place a series of gravity markers in the walls. Determine which marker is closest. Calculate the vector pointing to it. Apply constant acceleration in that vector. Change the character's and player's camera to point Down with the vector. https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/662/795/910/402/545/original/782885f5ad3b158e.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…a6mv Now I see your interest in my modular steel beam system. 😄 npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…r2el I know about it. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…r2el Now how to find any images of that that aren't blond guy and guy with the hat posing for the VHS cover image... 😅 npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I am looking for architecture references for my Used Future, retro-futuristic, space opera frontier outposts. Does anyone have recommendations for things to look at other than Star Wars? #IridiumMoons npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora This feels like a promising start. Big scope on top. Cleaning rod replaced with upside down AK gas port. Front furniture black with wooden stock like the MG42. But I also discovered why scifi Martini-Henry might not have been done before. To make it more than single shot, where do you put the magazine? The trigger is directly under the breach block. 🤔 That whole breach assembly is the most iconic part of the design. You can't touch that! Side feed would be an option, but on a marksman rifle? https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/631/107/758/331/460/original/e41423bd18de168c.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora In a recent EXP video about Star Wars guns, Jonathan Ferguson said he's disappointed that nobody seems to have made a scifi-greebled Martini-Henry rifle yet. #IridiumMoons is going to have very late 19th century inspired guns, so #ChallangeAccepted. Some kind of scope is always a given for any Star Wars gun. Especially since this will be the long range option in the weapon selection. It's also going to need a magazine. Single shot won't do among automatic weapons. https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/630/273/556/465/110/original/6dfe322f840e8c91.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…dgz6 That's still part of migraine. It's not just the headache. In recent years I've noticed a general sense of queasiness that often comes alongside the very specific headaches I tend to get in certain weather conditions. And sometimes that sensation is quite noticeable even when the headache is only very mild. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Unbelieveable. Another lawn mower! Is it a weekday? Are there any clouds? Is it slightly cool? Are there any other reasons why people might stay inside or keep their windows closed? If any of these apply, you can not possibly mow your lawn until they are gone. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora And now that the farmers are done with the hay harvesting, my shitty neighbor is on her idiotic lawn mower again mowing that stupid giant golf course lawn that nobody ever steps a foot on except to mow it every two weeks for half of the year. Which takes several hours. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora The farmer harvesting hay gets more acceptance from me than the neighbors mowing their oversized lawns as it goes into food production instead of being completely pointless. And I know the area he's clearing is a lot bigger, but he also has much bigger equipment. Why does he need so damn long making all this noise? I thought moving out of the city would be more quiet, but for half of the year, the constant noise pollution from cutting grass is so much worse. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…8q5e Funny, but what would reinventing the wheel in game design actually mean? Unlike the wheel, almost everything in video game design has been invented less than 50 years ago, and much of it is much more complex.Where still a long way off from really having worked out how to do it right. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…k7fr It was recently free on PSN too. Not sure if it's still going. (And reminds me to actually try playing it.) npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…ht4r Yes. Deliberate. Sarhat fills the backwater desert planet role in the setting, though I think overall it's going to look more Barsoom than Tatooine. (Which of course was a huge inspiration for Star Wars.) npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Seems I found my first bug that isn't just me making an obvious error with a simple fix. When loading my Blender asset into #Godot it works perfectly as intended. Except the texture on that one wall gets stretched sideways into infinity. It's the same texture as on the other walls, and it does render correct when I get close to it. It appears to be exactly one meter from it. Any idea what might cause this? #GameDev https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/608/210/079/695/640/original/41544dc4bf84514c.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Okay, this is way less scary than I thought it would be. Making trim sheets for modular buildings might not be nearly as much work as I assumed. https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/590/685/594/697/441/original/23d9a43780923ffb.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Neat trick that I learned from Kenshi: The building extends a considerable distance into the ground with stairs in front of the entrance. This allows this asset to be places on very uneven ground and on slopes without hovering in the air. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Yes! I've made real progress! Weird thing happens in Blender with booleans, and in less than three seconds I am thinking "Let's recalculate the normals to see if that fixes it." I'm a Blender master! 😆 npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…udln CEOs don't work for the good of the company. They work for the feelings of the investors. And the investors' feeling are always "more of this hype, please!" npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…jj29 Definitely. Not every field is just like any other. Melitopol is the one huge weak point in the entire system. If the troops in Kherson and Crimea can be cut of from the train line and highway, everything west of it is on immediate life support. (Or rather, off it.) But I'm not sure what that will mean for the Donbas. I don't see the Russian just retreating back behind the border, and with a massively shortened front, they might be much more able to hold it for a long time. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…jj29 I think the Ukrainians have the patience and discipline not to charge ahead blindly at every breakthrough and end up in the same position as the initial Russian invasion force, with unsecured flanks and no real supply lines. I expect the territory to be taken back in bites, not all at once. With time taken to secure what has been gained and get things organized for the next step before moving on. The comic Dark Empire followed in December, and the second novel Dark Force Rising the next year. And by 1993, the Expanded Universe became the multimedia giant as which we now it today. And realized 2 hours in that I haven't heard a single thing that sounds even remotely interesting. And this is the Final Fantasy game that people call okay, while FF16 is the one that is unbelievably dull. The series really fell off the train since... um, 20 years ago? npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I have no idea what I''m doing. 🤡 I know why this happens. I understand the math and geometry that puts the vertices in these locations. I just don't have any clue what one would do to fix this. https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/517/002/796/486/751/original/8726de7e746f4484.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…3rqu You mean the bottom triangle? npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…r2el This is what I should have done from the start. Save and close the character model and do experiments with the most simple object. A hexagonal rod with a single joint. This really helps with getting an understanding what effects additional vertex loops and weight painting have. (And I was right. Both bones have conflicting claims where a vertex should be. The vertex goes on a line between the two positions, with the weights pushing it from both directions.) #hobbydev #3dmodeling https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/516/642/581/228/675/original/70ee0032f17bf74a.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I think I accidentally discovered a new optical illusion. It's subtle, but I feel the rectangle looks wider at the bottom. https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/516/574/737/011/368/original/24e0e5d643c277ca.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…r2el I think this is fortunately relatively simple for me as I am making Quake/PS1 style characters, so smoothness isn't really a major priority. For now my approach is to just set each vertex at either 0, 0.5, or 1 and hope for the best. And then I guess it's wait and see how animations will look in motion and perhaps set some weights to 0.25 or 0.75 to if something overstretches in the wrong direction. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…r2el The issue I seem to have is that a vertex near a joint is being pulled on by two bones (if I even get that concept right). And where it will get pulled to depends on how far the bone movements pulls it, and with how much strength it pulls it. (I assume that's the weight.) But since I can only see the weight map of one bone at a time, I am having difficulty grasping which bones all have a pull on that vertex. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora @nprofile…r2el I'm struggling with finding a basic introduction to the core principles of weight painting. I think at 100% red, a vertex will be hard glued to the bone, and at 0% blue it will completely ignore the bone. But I can give any vertex 1000 steps between the two, and I am always confused by the lower parts of a limb also being blue, but still moving because their bone is being pulled along with the previous bone. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora As it turns out, placing the bones and joints is not the whole process of rigging a character. Weight painting is where all the magic happens about which faces get stretched or not. I think this is actually more important than the arrangement of faces on the model. npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I am making my first character model for my game and I am actually really surprised and happy with how well this has turned out. But I am feeling very unsure about the shoulder. I've not really found any good references of shoulders being constructed for models with such few triangles (390 without a head) but naturalistic proportions. Can anyone knowledgeable in #3dmodeling enlighten me if this is workable or in need of a different approach? #gamedev #Blender https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/512/462/809/361/064/original/360f3d0860f6e674.png https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/512/462/960/024/041/original/09af0430754200ce.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora Well, this looks ... good? 🤨 How did that happen?! I'm seeing a good amount of comments today that Blender isn't completely compromised and people seem to be feeling positive about the most recent statements. Metal Gear Solid seems like a really nice #Raw3D look with relatively realistic human proportions andhead textures that suggest just enough of a face to let the brain fill in the details. (Drawing faces is always the worst.) But the options are endless and this is a decisions that probably should be thought well through. Any other suggestions for realistic looking low-polygon human styles from games? https://cdn.masto.host/mastodongamedevplace/media_attachments/files/116/492/785/069/119/135/original/23a99251c93b72ac.png npub1cvtlvmawj9nmkq2kr6syvjevj507cmwldzw5d6u60sy7t85a4hnsjp3chn Yora I have a feeling that it's probably a good idea to decide on a basic character model design concept for #IridiumMoons now and then build the design of all other assets around that. Starting to develop a character design that fits an already existing environment and object style seems like setting yourself up for trouble. Designing the style of the world around a template for character shapes, proportions, and texture styles seems like a much smarter move.
