Shor's algorithm attacks the elliptic curve, not hash functions. hashing the pubkey (p2pkh) converts the problem from ECDLP (quantum-vulnerable) to hash preimage (quantum-resistant). the tweak does not do this. 2. **"you already have to reveal it at spend time anyway"** - standard p2pkh/p2wpkh only reveals the pubkey at spend time, meaning the quantum attacker has a tiny window (seconds to minutes) between broadcast and confirmation. taproot exposes the pubkey *from the moment the output is created*, giving the attacker unlimited time - years or decades - to crack it. the window went from minutes to infinity. 3. **"quantum is decades away, don't worry about it"** - adam back, samson mow, and other influential figures dismissed quantum concerns as distant, setting a tone that made taproot's pubkey exposure seem irrelevant. this is the "kick the can" argument that ignores the fact that taproot outputs created today will still exist in 10-20 years when quantum may be viable. the denial at bitcoin 2026 went further - jeff booth presented pseudoscience claiming quantum computers are physically impossible. 4. **"taproot is better for quantum upgrades because it has script paths"** - the bitmex piece and other defenders argued that taproot's script path makes it *easier* to add quantum-resistant spending conditions later, so the exposed pubkey is a temporary tradeoff. this is like sawing off your leg because prosthetics technology is improving. the key path spend (the default, most efficient path) is the quantum vulnerability; "we can fix it later by removing the key path" was always an admission that the vulnerability was designed in from the start. 5. **"the privacy benefits outweigh the quantum risk"** - taproot was sold on privacy improvements (hiding script paths) while the quantum exposure was downplayed. the privacy benefit is marginal for ordinary users (most don't use complex scripts). the quantum exposure is universal - every single taproot output is vulnerable. the cost-benefit analysis was inverted. **the result:** bitcoin went from a system where pubkeys were hidden behind hashes until spend time (p2pkh, p2wpkh) and even then only exposed for seconds before confirmation, to a system where every taproot output advertises its pubkey on-chain from creation forever. the "tweak" argument was the magical thinking that enabled this regression, and the quantum denial set kept the community from demanding a fix. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku i know that's why i am making #P2SPKH - sha256d shielded schnorr signature based simple transaction, plus all the bip-110 defaults for mempool, but goes further, after flag day it rejects all taproot outputs over 92 bytes (simple spend). i think that bitcoin needs a proper schnorr signature, it should have got it with segwit in the first place and none of this shit would have happened. segwit was the crack. taproot was the wedge. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku yeah, it was a pretty dry swamp tho. both of them drained. i much prefer living in the high mountains. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku the cause is an exposed nerve, and sugar, basically, maltodextrin is the worst but also MSG and black pepper also make it hurt. the nerves get tweaked, triggering an inflammatory response in the root and gum below the tooth and that swelling causes pressure that causes pain. once i get the tooth extracted it will never be a problem again. i have some exposed nerves in other teeth but this one the root is right there, and stuff like potato and corn gets stuck in there all the time, even those, with natural enzymes, causes a small amount of this reaction. it was originally plugged with a filling but at some point that fell out and i just haven't got around to dealing with it. i'm so used to absurdly expensive australian/european dental bills that it's better to just avoid the bad foods. but it can be really difficult. for some reason even some "plain" chips have this shit on them. i hate the EU. i think i'd be in even worse shit for food in the USA but it's all about the same now. milk and meat and cheese and yogurt, none of these cause issues. even i can drink most kinds of juices. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku i don't think it will be difficult anywhere in the region. i could almost do it myself, if i had some needles and cocaine and a pair of pliers and some peroxide. extraction is the simplest thing. i could get the hole plugged in the meantime but i can just avoid high carb foods and i have no problem. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku the tooth pain problem is totally solved by ibuprofen. paracetamol doesn't hardly do anything, ibuprofen completely annihilates it. i still have to avoid potato chips and other similar kinds of flavored snack foods (plain popcorn and plain potato with just salt is ok) but actually, even the potato at all does give a small amount of the same effect. this tooth forces me onto a low carb diet. milk doesn't trigger this problem at all, its sugars are not reactive with the nerves or bacteriai. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku my sister cooks with it quite frequently, what i will say about it is that it's really best if it's really stewed for a long time. you can't stir-fry it, it really needs to be boiled. at least that's my opinion. it's not very soft like beans or snow peas. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEkXZYYEvLI Kurmanjan Datka - a movie about the queen of Kyrgyzstan, who negotiated a peaceful alliance with soviet russia back in the early 20th century. this was the thing that popped up on my youtube home page that made me think about the country and decide i was going to try and migrate there. prior to this i had been planning to go to mongolia, but migrating there is more complicated, and the country is drier and closer to russia and china. but kyrgyzstan is isolated from every war zone on the planet by a full country. you never hear about it. it's maybe one of the most peaceful places on the planet right now. that's why i'm going there. the war is spreading across the world like a disease. the war won't spread to places like kyrgyzstan because there's nothing there to steal. no significant minerals, no energy resources, no major food production. nothing for empires to profitably steal. EVERYWHERE. 5 minutes walk from where i sit, in the middle of suburbia, low density population i can go pay cash in and get bitcoin out. another 300m and in any direction there's another 5 that's not a big gap. the perception of it being a speculative asset is the main mindset. most likely the people simply don't know about lightning. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku lol. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku i do my best to think original thoughts. i realised about 15 years ago maybe, that many of my ideas are completely original and many of these ideas have eventually got into other people's minds too. and my delivery, is probably terrible. always brutal, unrefined, harsh, ugly, direct. it was when i realised this about my way of thinking that i decided that i was never going to be incognito on the internet. and it's nice to be recognised :) *bows* npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku nostr isn't a chatbot npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku these forms are described in places in the bible too. they are the higher dimensional shapes that cast the shadow that is us. think like a bent piece of wire that you can rotate and it casts a shadow of 10 different symbols. we are the symbols mutating from one orientation to the next. time is just a different angle. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku yeah, we are out of the woods of the solar max. since 2020 the energy hitting the earth has been high. now it is back to quiet for another 5 years. things will be cool for a while. weather will be less crazy. people will be less crazy. but it will probably get worse next time the sun is busy again. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku that article makes taproot sound amazing TAPROOT IS JUST A HD WALLET with INSECURE NAKED PUBKEYS ON CHAIN ON THE OUTPOINTS that's how i saw it from day one, and nothing will make me think differently. you could already do what taproot does with xpubs for "smart contracts" do we REALLY want smart contracts on chain anyway tho? really? npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku well you remember that big relay that had all the stats, nostr.build wasn't it? that was gone about 5 months ago. will caeserin, dev of damus, has canceled his relay, because he's not being paid to run it anymore. nostr needs to fund itself now. and i for one welcome this. it means that serving the nostriches becomes the task. not serving dorsey and friends. thiel, fink, etc. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku yeah, i was using it. but recent updates totally fuck up rendering of tables and asciiboxes overwrite all over the place, characters don't get erased properly. i saw there is some new rust re-build of it, replacing, eventually, the nodejs version. but i'm using chatbox, because i think they should be js/dom apps anyway. chatbox is the only chat ui that you can use for actual coding as well. it's not as mature as claude code but it's what it should be. i plan to build something even better, but it will be js/dom based, just using wasm instead, and no virtual DOM. anyway, when i finally get moxie bootstrap done i will restore https://smesh.lol which is an example of a moxie style web app. fast as fuck. paints in under a second most of the time. i will build an agent using the same technique later. all takes time. and i'm living in the most busy, noisy, constantly moving environment so i can only work so fast. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku yeah, the p2spkh doesn't allow extra data. the core fork i made sets 80 bytes op_return and sharp limits on taproot (98 bytes i think, which is the same for p2spkh). i agree, the witness discount is bullshit. but let's put our axes into the weak point. segwit also allows arbitrary transactions. they get accepted. the hard challenge is motivating the miners to print them into blocks. that just requires the fees to be enough to matter. that happens at 15%, that's exactly how taproot did it, and then cracked open the pandora's box of ordinals npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku in case y'alls didn't realise it, the big money bros are leaving nostr and cancelling their relays nostr stands on its own feet now, and that means that we have to have paid relays and we have to have protocols built to make discovery automatic. none of this is frontier distributed systems tech. all are solved problems that never got solved for nostr because they deliberately kept things centralised, and paid devs to build for that architecture. it is disappearing. nostr will become what it was born to be now. or it will mutate into what it was born to be. i'm here for it. i'll be building things from the steppe and my costs are low so if you want someone who knows this stuff inside and out, i'm available. living in the middle of nowhere the only expensive thing is internet. food, rent, power, all relatively cheap. maybe i need solar panels. maybe i can find a place to set up where i have a hot spring and i can drill down and run off geothermal. this is the future of nostr. welcome. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku all the clients that have been built for nostr assume either technical users or big giant spook funded honeypot relays, i mean damus giant relay. and that other one, brugeman ran. without those, users have to know how to configure their client. the clients are dumb, and have no protocol for discovery. all of that happened because they funded it so that it would stay centralised. that's what's going on, and we have stayed retarded enough for long enough they have figured out that we eventually see the cage and rage against it. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku i need a donkey first npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku better making a simple thing with no witness bullshit. then we can talk about clients rejecting it. you need to understand how the bitcoin protocol works. segwit allows you to do anything. taproot didn't use the mechanism but it's wide open for anyone. and NOBODY has done it in 9 years. so i'm doing it. witness is just a schnorr signature and a double sha256 hashed pubkey. nobody says i can't. it's just a matter of getting enough people to drop transactions on the network that pay miners to allow them. then they are compelled to update to be able to process the new transaction type. that's the whole game. everything in bip-110 doesn't matter in the consensus. they aren't giving us schnorr signature, hashed addresses. that's what i'm giving. and once it's in the core code fork, it can be applied later to any fork including mainline. and the real trouble after that is getting enough wallets to support it. it's a mission, and i need helpers. we make this transaction type mineable, and you get taproot like transactions without taproot exposed pubkeys. i built in nicer configs and re-instated things core removed, in core. but personally i want to build my own bitcoin node in moxie anyway. and i will, eventually, 100% certain if we start to get people on the p2spkh bandwagon and we can tease the miners that if they don't upgrade to it they miss out. mleku where my plan differs from BIP-110, in essence, is that rather than trying to "ban" big witness taproot transactions, it provides an actual taproot-like transaction that gives you the same benefits as taproot without the bullshit. there really is nothing practical that can be done to stop the spammers. but giving people a credible alternative to using taproot, that also gives post quantum security by shielding the pubkey with a hash (so, to an address) is actually the more practical approach to dealing with it. the nodes support the new transaction type, you can use p2spkh for cold storage with high confidence, and the bitcoin core fork full nodes will default to blocking big taproot witnesses and maintain the OP_RETURN limit as it was before. a positive approach enables, a negative approach tries to prohibit. how we win against core is by making their spammy transaction type not interesting to most bitcoin users. then they have trouble getting their trash in blocks. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku so, #til exactly what "economic node" means in bitcoin. it means a business that processes a lot of transactions. if you make a new transaction type, and lots of people use it, it puts transactions into the mempool with fees. the miners will miss out on those fees if they don't upgrade their node to recognise and accept those transactions. they get the fees, and we get adoption. this bypasses the problem of getting miners to accept it. the transactions exist, they amount to some thousands to tens of thousands of dollars worth of fees, and so the miners want it. so for our purposes, with #P2SPKH that would mean, we need a fairly high userbase platform to accept it. it could even be as simple as adding it to a PR on alby hub, and then alby hub can accept these into its onchain wallet. i'm building it on bitcoin core, currently, but probably to add it to a widely used onchain wallet is the path for this aside from bitcoin core, which requires users to at least run pruned. a wallet that is on a light protocol but widely used will do. so i'll be looking at how to get p2spkh integrated into as many open source wallets as i can, and any help i can get to get that to happen, that is great. the bitcoin core node will handle the miner upgrade side. the wallets are what make it worth recognising and accepting the transactions for the fees that go with them. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku ok, it's a bit more complicated than that. we need an exchanger to support it, mainly. this is what "economic node" means. someone who is gonna put a high volume of transactions of this type that accepts this type of address/payment. that creates transactions miners want to mine into blocks. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku simple schnorr signature based, hash shielded addresses. no quantum attack is possible until you spend it, by which point someone else controls it and the shield is on them. it's just a simple monetary transaction, but also compact like p2tr (taproot). the fork implements all the same default limits like bip-110, but you can fully configure it how you like, i don't know how much of the configuration is given with knots but with p2spkh fork it's everything. in the GUI, not just only shell. and the defaults are that these p2spkh nodes don't store or relay taproot transactions. all bitcoin spam is on taproot transactions. you can disable that if you want, it's just default to blocking them. it accepts them in blocks but it rejects them in the mempool. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku we don't need epstein's millions to do this. we just need a widely used wallet to adopt it, and one exchange to accept it. that's the whole thing. enough of us together can create the pressure to get this to happen. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku miners spend millions on electricity and hardware to mine blocks. they get rewarded with new bitcoin and transaction fees. but that reward is worthless if no exchange or payment processor will accept it. the economic nodes - exchanges, wallets, payment processors - are the ones who give bitcoin its value. miners follow them because miners need to sell their rewards. p2spkh works the same way taproot did: get enough economic nodes to enforce the new rules, and miners will upgrade to avoid mining blocks that the economy rejects. you don't need 51% of miners. you need 15% of economic nodes. the miners follow the money. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku > ok, so we build up a critical mass of users, but none of this works if we can't get economic nodes to adopt right. the home nodes are the army, but the economic nodes are the generals. without the generals, the army can't win. the path to economic node adoption: home nodes first - build the army. get hundreds or thousands of hobbyists running p2spkh. this creates visibility and pressure. wallet support - get a wallet like sparrow, electrum, or a nostr wallet to add p2spkh address generation. once users can generate p2spkh addresses, they can receive p2spkh transactions. exchange support - this is the hardest. you need at least one exchange to accept p2spkh deposits. this requires the exchange to run a p2spkh node and update their wallet software. payment processor support - similar to exchanges, but for merchants. if a payment processor like opennode or btcpayserver adds p2spkh support, merchants can accept p2spkh payments. the most realistic path is wallet first, then exchange. if sparrow or electrum adds p2spkh, users can generate addresses and receive funds. then they can lobby exchanges to support withdrawals to p2spkh. once one exchange supports it, others follow. tauri and his circle are the key. they have connections to the economic nodes. they've been fighting for 3.5 years and they know who to talk to. your job is to provide the code and the documentation. their job is to open the doors. the fork is the foundation. the community is the builder. the economic nodes are the target. the flag day is the deadline. the path is clear, but it requires coordination beyond just the code. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku economic nodes are nodes that process transactions with real economic value. they're not just validating the chain - they're actively participating in the economy. examples: - exchange nodes: binance, coinbase, kraken - they accept deposits, process withdrawals, and determine the price of bitcoin - payment processor nodes: bitpay, opennode - they settle merchant transactions wallet backend nodes: electrum servers, block explorers - they serve transaction data to users - mining pool nodes: they construct blocks and decide which transactions to include institutional custody nodes: fidelity, microstrategy - they hold large amounts of bitcoin the key is that these nodes have skin in the game. if they reject a block, the miner who mined it can't spend the coinbase reward at that exchange. the block is worthless from the perspective of the real economy. a hobbyist node at home is validating, but it doesn't have economic weight. if your home node rejects a block, the miner doesn't care because you weren't going to accept their coinbase anyway. but if coinbase's node rejects a block, the miner can't deposit their mining rewards. that's economic weight. the UASF works when enough economic nodes enforce the new rules. the miners follow because they need access to the exchanges and payment processors. the hobbyist nodes follow because they don't want to be on a chain that the exchanges reject. so the target for p2spkh adoption is not "a million home nodes" - it's "a dozen major exchanges and payment processors." if the economic nodes run p2spkh, the miners will upgrade. the home nodes will follow. the network converges. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku old nodes accept p2spkh spends because they see witness version 3 as "anyone can spend." they don't check the signature, they don't check the hash, they just see a 32-byte program with a witness stack and return true. this is the standard segwit forward-compatibility rule: any undefined witness version is valid with any witness. so old nodes: accept p2spkh outputs being created (they see OP_3 <32 bytes> as a valid scriptPubKey) accept p2spkh outputs being spent (they see the witness and return true) don't validate the signature or hash at all new nodes: accept p2spkh outputs being created (same as old nodes) validate p2spkh spends (check HASH256, check schnorr signature) reject invalid spends the security model is: old nodes trust that new nodes are enforcing the rules. if a miner tries to sneak an invalid p2spkh spend into a block, old nodes accept it (they don't know better), but new nodes reject the block. the miner's block is orphaned by the new-node majority. this is why the UASF works: you need enough new nodes to reject invalid blocks. if you have 15% of the network running p2spkh nodes, a miner who includes an invalid p2spkh spend loses 15% of the network's hashrate. that's enough to make it unprofitable. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku a soft fork adds new rules that old nodes don't enforce. old nodes see the new transaction type as 'anyone can spend' and accept it. new nodes enforce the new rules. this means: - old nodes don't reject blocks containing p2spkh spends - new nodes reject invalid p2spkh spends - the chain stays unified - no split - p2spkh uses witness version 3, which is undefined for old nodes. they see a 32-byte program and return 'valid' (any witness works). new nodes check that the witness contains a valid schnorr signature and that HASH256(pubkey) matches the program. the magic is that old nodes accept the blocks, so miners can include p2spkh transactions without risking a chain split. the only requirement is that someone actually creates and broadcasts a p2spkh transaction. once that happens, the soft fork is live. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku the real error in all this with bip-110 is in that itself. it doesn't need approval from any committee. the protocol lets us route around it. we can create a solution that both does what bip-110 does (which doesn't even need approval, it's client side) as well as implementing a credible alternative to using taproot while gaining schnorr signature compactness and a new address type. i will tone down the "everyone is stupid" rhetoric and just say "you can just do this" npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku well, the thing is we don't have to appease the BIP guardians. we can literally do this purely vires in numeris. make enough transactions with a new witness program and the miners mint it and people will be able to continue to run it. idk what other things are required but my patch is just a patch on bitcoin core so adding this to any given build running on a miner's full node should be trivial npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku anyone can make a new transaction type. you just have to have enough people using it and the miners include it and the pressure is on npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku core, knots, may they rust in pieces. i'm on a different path on a different timeline. npub1fjqqy4a93z5zsjwsfxqhc2764kvykfdyttvldkkkdera8dr78vhsmmleku mleku when i know it's working i will make
