well said. 👏 justice must be about repair, making those harmed as whole again as can be done, and ensuring the harm is not repeated or increased. This doesnt preclude compassion for perpetrators, who are frankly also human, but compassion for them *cannot* come at the expense of repair and restitution to those they harmed. Crimes like rape are not easily repaired, but the solution is absolutely not to throw up our hands and instead turn our attention to protecting the rapists' future prospects! As much as the survivors require for their wounds to be repaired, so much should the perpetrators be required to provide! Justice is nothing less than that standard

this is deeply misleading and materially harmful to legitimate service animal handlers. Business owners, public transit operators etc are legally allowed by federal law to ask "is that a service animal" and "what tasks has the animal been trained to perform" and they are allowed to deny access to animals that pose a threat or disruption to normal operations regardless of supposed certification or training. What animals are allowed to be used in public spaces as service animals varies somewhat by state. But "pedigree" matters not at all and is not germaine to an animal's service as an assistance animal in the same way that businesses cannot deny access to wheelchair users based on the manufacturer of their chairs. Proprietors of public spaces cannot say "your cane/chair is homemade so you cant use it in here". But if the assistive device is causing damage or other disruptions, the user can legally be asked to take it outside. Do better by the disabled than to spread harmful misinformarion based on shitty clickbait. @npub1c4q…qrpz

you are absolutely right!! Admittedly i wasnt intending to frame it causally like that, and 100% agree that if we'd collectively acted to protect Black women and children that it would never have reached white bodies, and thats largely where my frustration/lack of forgiveness for that group is coming from. They only cared when they thought it was just affecting white people and STILL do not care about Black suffering and oppression, and until they make the connection you identified, the amount of shame I feel for not taking them seriously is limited at best

Here are some ways to participate in a #strike you may not realize count/matter:
If you have to go to work:
- Slow down, produce less than usual
- Make mistakes
If you must go to school:
- Cry (yes, seriously)
- Ask questions that require long answers
If you have to shop:
- Go to a locally owned market, esp if that market is owned by marginalized people
- Buy directly from small/local vendors
Find other ways to throw sand in the gears of the economy, use your eyes and get creative
Disruption is the goal
Do your own risk assessment, you may not be able to do everything but you can do SOMETHING ✌️

Just realized:
I was at the ER yesterday, and the people wearing masks were mainly the patients and the lower ranking and/or non-white staff members
Its never been easier to tell at a glance how trustworthy any random human in public is, bc there is no excuse for not wearing one at this point. None of the staff at the ER who treated me poorly wore one, but all of the staff who were kind to me, did. There was very little if any deviation from this pattern. The same attributes that make a medical provider trustworthy also result in them choosing to mask, and vice versa.
The thing about a medical excuse not to wear one is that such a situation doesnt exist. If youre "too sick to wear a mask" youre also infinitely more vulnerable to the infections they would shield you from in the first place. You would be doing things like social distancing or fully avoiding crowded/enclosed spaces bc even minor infections could land you in the hospital. You would be loudly in support of other people masking bc you are the very person those masks protect. There is also no such thing as a medical provider who doesnt need to mask.
If you want other people to know youre a safe person, wear a fkn mask. If you dont, we see you, bc you are wearing your trustworthiness right on your face.
