I've been thinking about something @nprofile…gs4j told me.
In 2011, when the U.S. government pressured MasterCard, Visa, and PayPal to cut WikiLeaks off, Bitcoin stepped in. WikiLeaks accepted Bitcoin, and a small community of strangers proved that information can find its way to the public no matter who tries to stop it.

People ask me why I didn't just wait for a distributor. Somebody would have bought it eventually.
Maybe. But the waiting IS the censorship. Every month a film about Julian Assange sits on a shelf is another month the public doesn't know what their government did. The delay is the weapon. The bureaucracy is the blade.

Amen to that. Direct democracy was America’s founding strength. Our military-imperial potential, which even Washington himself warned against, was our founding flaw. This culminated with Eisenhower’s warning against the military-industrial complex. But his fuller warning goes further, cautioning us against “selfish pressure groups” who use “the power of concentrated finance” to hold the nation’s priorities “captive.”

When he wrote Democracy in America, Alexis de Tocqueville visited the country and saw democratic processes happening in town hall meetings in places like Vermont — direct, unmediated, human. He'd never seen anything like it. This is real democracy, not the crap that is sold to us by the two-party duopoly.

When I started this film, I basically figured Bitcoin was a pyramid scheme. I'm not embarrassed to say I fell prey to the same kind of curated propaganda that people are also fed about Julian Assange.
Then I met the people in this community. @nprofile…tzjn, @nprofile…8ckh and many more. I saw the alignment between Bitcoiners and WikiLeakers: centralized power is abusive power, and the only solution is to go around them.
