Thinking about how a fifth of Germans live alone. Only a tenth of Americans do, but they make up a third of households. That is actually why there's a housing crisis, which is finally being solved naturally by all of us moving in together and other people dying off and leaving houses vacant.
All of the financial shenanigans meant to make housing cheaper just artificially raised demand, which pushed up prices further. Until they were so high that demand declined and prices began to fall. Ironic.

I find it fascinating that you would think belief in God would make men emotionally weak and lead them to shun responsibility, when we have decades of research and observation proving that it's the opposite.
It's not an accident that so many Nostriches and Bitcoiners are religious. Religion frees you from the emotional clutches of the state and gives you more sense of personal agency and destiny.

But we drive down to Austin, sometimes. Were in Cedar Park, yesterday, for a walk on the sculpture garden path, which was lovely. And had some Lebanese food. Yum!

It does!!! Reminded me of DC, but you're right because it's more sprawling, like LA. Austin used to be this backwater town, with some hillbillies, Pappadeaux restaurant, Dell computers, and 6th Street. 😂
Now, it's more like California, or something.
I dated a guy whose family was in the Klan, in high school, and we drove by the ole KKK hangout. It's been leveled and turned into a subdivision full of Latino yuppies. Which is ironically hilarious.

Since I was last in Central #Texas, people got fatter or fitter, the cars got bigger and the traffic jams got longer, more of the land was covered in concrete, and some women dyed their hair highly unnatural colors.

I think most people concerned with monetary inflation don't realize how little most people care about monetary inflation. What they care about is consumer price inflation (the cost of butter, gasoline, meat) and asset price inflation (the cost of housing, mostly, as people need homes to live in).
Consumer price inflation and asset price inflation can be accelerated by monetary price inflation, but the normies are right to associate the sudden, disturbing jumps and falls in prices to supply/demand shocks, and _not_ to overall monetary inflation. That is why central banks fiddling with interest rates has no effect on the price of gasoline at the station; that price is taxes, fees, fracking licenses, and supply interruptions, not the national debt or the interest on 10-year bunds.

Everyone is escaping to group chats. Even on Nostr, lots of the events are private. That's why the feeds feel a bit thin, but the relays are getting crushed by encrypted or ephemeral events.

It's a lot of bots, yeah. The replies are normally around 15% bots, but any hot topic gets overrun by bots, up to 44%. And once you consider how many of the popular OPs are bots, grifters or parodies, there's no real reason to bother looking at any on there.
If you are just using it to chat with your ten besties, then it still works fine, but you could do that anywhere.

You need to automate more. Have the notes one-click produced from a custom browser extension with a nice parser, for instance. Have the initial preselection done by a custom AI. etc.
Just because the curation of the end selection is human doesn't mean a human has to perform every step manually.

There's an old German joke like that.
A pious, kind, humble priest named Thomas dies and goes to Heaven. When he gets there, St. Peter welcomes him in and shows him to his room, and informs him that dinner will be in the Great Hall at 6 PM.
Thomas arrives at six, takes his seat across from Peter, and proceeds to contentedly eat the plain ham sandwich on his plate. Yeah, was at a funeral for an elderly lady, yesterday, and the median age was about 35. She had 7 grandkids, and 6 grandnieces and grandnephews. That's what funerals are like out here.
But I have been to some in the city, and it's just a pitiful little bunch of old folks and some middle-aged people looking lost. And no priest, of course. I mean, at least they had a funeral and didn't just get dumped in a pine box because there was no one left who could be bothered to mourn them.

No. The primary private property is the person's own body, identity, and speech. A person should be able to move themselves around in public places without getting spied on. I don't care if you want a ring doorbell filming the playground at the park, or to have your security cameras aimed at the public sidewalk.
My right to freedom of movement requires privacy in public spaces, just as my right to free speech requires privacy in communication.

Any data a private entity collects will eventually benefit the state. Privacy is only possible If the data collection is simply not done by _anyone_. The private companies collecting the data were freely sharing that data with the government. Google, Meta, Alphabet, Palantir, X, Tesla, GitHub, Amazon, Apple... They all share their data with the state. Any large company is effectively the long arm of the law. We saw that with Twitter. That is why I am here.
And private surveillance is a form of acclimation. People are so used to being recorded by everyone, everything, everywhere, that it took a surprisingly long tome for the Flock cameras to even become a topic. If you already live in a private human zoo, it seems a bit contrived to become upset that it's now a public human zoo.
I would rather not live in any zoo.

I am against ANY surveillance in public areas, without a warrant from a judge. I do have an expectation of privacy in public places. IMO, not being constantly observed and monitored and recorded is a tenant of personal freedom.

These aren't only being installed on public property. Lots of streets in the USA are private roads and they are also getting covered in these things.
I also don't see the moral quandry. If it is fine to monitor and record everyone in public, then it is fine. It's not as if Americans aren't being recorded 360 degrees 24/7. The doorbells, the security cameras aimed at the street, the ATMs, the cars, camera phones everywhere, Google glasses, etc. Nobody had any problem with it.
I think American residents are just seeing these video poles and are suddenly realizing that they are living on live TV and it upset them.

I think the future is everyone having their own client. I just build for myself. I use Nostr a lot and it's worth it for me to have something that does what I want.
Most people are just scrolling the kind 1 feed, without even hitting the ❤ . They are fine with any dumb viewer, and are happy to have the content preselected, so they don't need anything more complex.

I just did that. Took me about two days of testing and improving, but it's basically done, now.
