You can find things funny when they aren't a danger to you. And I think that is why women often get the label of "humorless". A lot more things are dangerous to women than to men, and so they don't laugh at those things.
Ya know like rape jokes. You're probably not going to laugh at a rape joke if you are on a date actively trying to make sure that you don't get raped.
There is some nuance here, sometimes humor is a way to deal with trauma. And so whether or not a joke is funny to someone who has experienced that thing depends on the punchline. But a 'ha ha that person got raped' is wildly unlikely to get a laugh out of someone who deals with that fear everyday.

The difficult and complicated part its that it’s both.
I imagine we’ve all seen the very publicized examples of very crass abortion supporters who have done things like throw an abortion party, etc. That’s ugly. And it says that women matter but a fetus does not matter.
I’m sure we can all also think of an example of a staunch anti-abortion campaigner who would like to see women forced to carry their rapists babies. That’s horrific. And it says that a fetus matters but a woman does not matter.
The tricky part about all of this is that it’s both, and it’s not simple at all. The life and well being of a woman matters, and a fetus also matters. In tragic times and places when the their needs are at odds, then very difficult choices about which matters most have to be made. And the ‘answer’ to that will differ in every situation. It’s not simple. We can’t make it simple. And that’s why someone in a fancy suit hundreds of miles away who knows nothing of the specifics of the situation can’t be the one that makes those choices. The people directly affected by the outcome of the situation are the only people fit to make those choices.

How exhausting it is to constantly have to check and test to see if those who are trying to get close to you have any respect for your basic human rights.
That has been the case for me in the past ~4 years. So, so many in the Bitcoin/Crypto community have gone down an ugly red pill path adopting an ideology which tells them that women are not appropriate to full autonomy. And these people will attempt to pull you in to their ideology. They will court you and use lovely sounding words and phrases, and once your guard is down they will try to convince you that you are a follower, inappropriate to decision making, a second class human, support staff only.
It’s so exhausting, and pathetic. They hide their ideology as they lack the courage to be honest about their convictions. They know that they will be rejected outright if they don’t hide behind flowery words and drip feed their disrespect.
What sucks most about this is that now it’s a logistically horrible idea to let anyone in at all until they have thoroughly proven their respect for my basic human rights. So tiring. And it doesn’t feel like that should be the case, that I should have to performs checks to see if someone supports my basic autonomy. What bull shit.

If you want people to have understanding for you, and you should, then you need to practice having understanding for others.
And once again, we’ll look to the red pill crew for an example of how not to do it 😉
The red pill crew, or those sympathetic to them, will explain to you that the “male loneliness epidemic” and young men falling into extremism is a symptom of them being treated badly by the very “woke” lefties, and the extreme feminists, and by the confusing messaging to young men about where their value comes from. And I totally agree, that’s a problem and we should have some understanding for it.
However, the same set of people who will expect you to have understanding for young angry misogynist men will fail to understand the angry feminists. Don’t ya think that maybe extreme feminism is a reaction to centuries of legal, social, and at times physical repression of women? Might those things cause some backlash that we should have some understand for?
And these same people that want you to have sympathy for young angry misogynist men will also talk about gang violence and “black on black” crime. They also fail to understand where that might come from. They will reject any discussion of the down stream effects of centuries of brutal legal repression and systematic segregation and impoverishment. Might it be that some young black men fall into gangs as they were a born into a difficult situation that doesn’t give them as many options as others get? Should we have some understanding for that?
You can’t have it both ways. If you want others to have understanding for you, and you should, then you need to practice understanding for others.

O the amount of times I’ve been told that my concerns are paranoid, illogical, hysterical. I’m always being told to shelve my concerns so that I can consider other people’s perspectives. I can’t do it any more.
There is quite a lot to be learned from listening to others perspectives. I’d go so far as to say you can’t learn or grow if you don’t. But it has to be mutual. Continuing to do the hard work of putting yourself in someone else’s shoes when they won’t do the same for you just degrades your respect for yourself.
If you can’t be kind, if you can’t be understanding, if you can’t take a moment to consider how a situation impacts someone else…. Go fuck yourself and good bye.

And so it only makes sense to focus on your responses to the circumstances around you. You can decide to attempt to influence the world, but the world will surprise you, and do things that you didn't want it to and that you can't control, and you have to focus on your decisions on how to respond. As that is the only thing you control.

20+ years ago I spent a few weeks studying Buddhism in a world religions class at Oakton Community College. I don't remember a lot accept that I didn't like it. I'm not supposed to desire anything? What's the point of being alive then?
Years latter I came to understand the concept more as you're not supposed to be attached to things and that made a lot more sense to me.
...But I am attached to things! I have to un-attach from my kids in order to have inner peace? Nah that's BS
But now I get it. It goes back to this 'outcome pressure' thing that I deal with a lot and the idea of not taking on responsibility for things outside my control. It's about a sense of what you are and are not responsible for.
The attachment thing is mostly right. But it doesn't mean don't care, or don't strive, it means don't lose your sense of self to an attachment to something external.

Sometimes I hear that macaroons are confusing, and that bums me out as I find them to be so elegant and simple. So let me see if I can effectively communicate how beautiful this little piece of tech is…
Let’s imagine that you have a server that has some data to serve up and you want to gate your content and perhaps charge for it.
Step one, create a secret. Here we’ll use just the word “secreto”, which is of course “secret” in Spanish. The tricky part for you is that you have to know what a hash function is, and the tricky part for your server is that it has to hold on to and protect this secret.
Now perhaps you want to give your users ID’s. Something complex and official looking like “id12345678id”.
To make a very simple macaroon for your user you simple hash “secreto” together with that ID “id12345678id”. You can try this yourself on the command line if you like.
$ echo "secreto;id12345678id" | sha256sum
The result is “55413cca2fbc3a31f5ef5ab7b18390c926dd7f9d466034ea8ec2a0867e19e26d” and congratulations you created a macaroon! (Kinda)
You then hand your user this data:
id12345678id
55413cca2fbc3a31f5ef5ab7b18390c926dd7f9d466034ea8ec2a0867e19e26d
You don’t have to hold on to any data at all besides that secret. You can hold on to that ID data if you like. But tomorrow when the holder of this macaroon shows back up to access your services, how can you validate them?
Very simply as you know the secret!
You take that ID “id12345678id” and hash it together with your secret [$ echo "secreto;id12345678id" | sha256sum] to see if you get the hash that they showed up with, “55413cca2fbc3a31f5ef5ab7b18390c926dd7f9d466034ea8ec2a0867e19e26d”. If you do, then you know that your server created that macaroon and you can let them right in.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Well, ackchyually 🤓 ...
What I’ve described above is really more of an HMAC(Hash-based Message Authentication Code) than a macaroon. What macroons are really for is chaining hashes and adding attenuations. So let’s add in one more step.
You don’t want this user to have access to your server forever, so you want to add an expiration date to this authentication token. Let’s say April 27th 2027.
So let’s add that to our HMAC thus turning it into a proper macaroon! Right now we have:
id12345678id
55413cca2fbc3a31f5ef5ab7b18390c926dd7f9d466034ea8ec2a0867e19e26d
How do we add our new attenuation? With another hash of course!!! We take our existing hash, and hash it with our new data, “expires:2027-04-27”.
$ echo "55413cca2fbc3a31f5ef5ab7b18390c926dd7f9d466034ea8ec2a0867e19e26d;expires:2027-04-27" | sha256sum
We now have a new hash! “bf41dee1dacfe63e1d917c46d024e6ceb13506632e092fa218bd96df041f7b0e”
This is now the macaroon that we give our user:
id12345678id
expires:2027-04-27
bf41dee1dacfe63e1d917c46d024e6ceb13506632e092fa218bd96df041f7b0e
And still, only we know the secret. And so, this user can’t change this macaroon as doing so would alter that hash thus making our validation of it fail.
So how can we validate it? Also, very, very simply with just that secret and a few hash functions!
As we have the secret, all we need to do is recreate the macaroon and see if we get the final hash that the user showed up with.
Hash together the secret with the ID. Take that result and hash it together with the expiration data. If the result is the same hash as the user presented to us then we know that macaroon was created using our secret. So either someone has stolen our secret, or we created that macaroon!
Don’t trust, verify. Try it yourself on your machine.
$ echo "secreto;id12345678id" | sha256sum
This produces 55413cca2fbc3a31f5ef5ab7b18390c926dd7f9d466034ea8ec2a0867e19e26d. Then…
$ echo "55413cca2fbc3a31f5ef5ab7b18390c926dd7f9d466034ea8ec2a0867e19e26d;expires:2027-04-27" | sha256sum
Which produces bf41dee1dacfe63e1d917c46d024e6ceb13506632e092fa218bd96df041f7b0e.
The hashes match, authentication complete!
...one more ackchyually. A real HMAC function is slightly more complicated than demonstrated above. HMAC functions handle the data more carefully than just taking a string, and there lots of details in formatting, and there are details on how third party caveats are added, etc.
However, if you’ve made it this far, congratulations, you understand macaroons! 🥳

I think most of us know it on an intellectual level. If you’ve read a shit ton of books, if you’ve done a bunch of shrooms(so I’m told), if you’ve been to therapy, then you know…
You control nothing but yourself. You are not responsible for the behavior of others. You are not responsible for the outcome of a complex situation. The only things it makes sense to worry about are your own choices. Life is mostly just about deciding who you are and connecting with others.
We know this intellectually, but we were born in a world that sold us a very different perspective on life. One where you must feel shame if the outcome is not what you hoped. One where life is about being above others, and having more. And removing that programming from the back of your head takes years and years of work.
But everyone once in a while, I don’t just know these things, I feel them. Every once in a while I have a morning where I forget to feel shame and forget to try to be above others. And on those mornings, life really feels pretty fun.

In the past ~5 years I've learned SO, SO much about the human mind, and nervous system, and psychology, and how we operate, epigenetics, and neuroplasticity, etc. and it just blows my mind how uncommon this knowledge is.
Just 5 years ago I was a very educated and intelligent person and yet was walking around all day utterly ignorant of how my own mind functions. Wild.
It bums me out how psychology and therapy are demonised. Y'all we are so ignorant. We really need to be leaning into these tools a lot more rather than shaming them.

I like this. It's not making A plan, it's making planS. And precisely because we don't know what will happen.
As this is a constant issue for me I’ve tried tackling it in many ways. It’s an uphill battle as the culture all around us tells us that there is a very specific path to follow in life, it’s our job to stay very narrowly on that path, and should we deviate, should tragedy find us and knock us off the track, well that is a shameful failure on our part. ...wow is that exhausting!
I like making AI + Photoshop images and I made these two. The first represents the narrow path. It’s a frightening and exhausting way to live. The second is the expectation of life that I’m trying to install in my head. It’s the idea that there are all kinds of possibilities all the time and it’s our job just to attempt to manage them well.

Agentic payments are so hot right now 🔥 You’ve probably heard of L402 or x402, but what are they?
I’ll explain, but first, the internet! Back in the early 90s the HTTP protocol was being built, and with that came some error codes, 404 page not found being the most famous. 💅 But, reserved for future use, is a very forgotten error code, 402 payment required. This error code has sat waiting, for decades, for its moment to shine. And now, finally, we have money truly built for online commerce, Bitcoin + Lightning ⚡
And of course agents will choose to work with money designed for them. Agents don’t have identities, they can’t open bank accounts. They aren’t so great at filling out forms on a website, but they excel at using APIs! They can crunch numbers way faster than we can and they don’t want to sit around waiting on third parties to verify payments and grant access. L402s were designed for them!
So what is an L402?
It’s an access token that includes proof of payment. An agent shows up to an API endpoint looking for some data. The service returns a token with a Lightning invoice. The agent pays that invoice, receives the preimage as proof of payment and adds that preimage to the token, making an L402. The agent then returns to the server to access the data in that API endpoint presenting the L402 to get instant access. But wait, there’s more. As this is a bearer token, an agent can also attenuate that token and sell it, or pass it along to sub-agents, etc. Lots of options. No identity needed, no need for the server to hold on to user data.
This is a protocol created by Lightning Labs in 2020.
And how does this relate to x402?
You can think of it like this, L402 is a bearer token while x402 is a process. An agent shows up to an API endpoint looking for some data. The service returns a 402 error code along with instructions for various payment methods. An agent makes a payment and a facilitator service monitors the blockchain to check for confirmations, returning data to the server when a transaction is settled. The server can now grant the agent access to the data in that API endpoint.
This is a protocol created by Coinbase in 2025.
x402 focuses more on the broader crypto ecosystem while L402 focuses on Lightning. L402 tokens were built specifically for Lightning payments but it’s theoretically possible to use L402s inside of the x402 process.

It’s one of the most consistently difficult things in my life, how on earth can someone hold the reality that this could all end at any moment, at the same time as they engage in long term planning?
Car accident, WW3 nuclear blast, stroke, etc. you just never know. And you then have to hold that knowledge while planning your kids education, deciding if now is the right time to refinance your home, making a 5 year career plan… like I just don’t think the human mind can really do that.
So in a lot of ways, you just gotta say fuck it and go for it knowing that you and everyone you know will die, but just live anyway.

It really bothers me when people say that men are protectors, not because I don’t want them to be, but because most aren’t.
I’m speaking in broad generalities here, and certainly there are exceptions, but generally, this is how it goes...
A woman spots a threat in her world, she goes to a man who is in a ‘protector’ position, a father, a brother, a husband, etc. She tells him what her concerns are. The ‘protector’ dismisses her concerns as hysteria. “You’re being paranoid”, “I’ve not seen him do that!”, “Not all men!”, “don’t be such a feminist.” And so she receives no protection. Instead she needs to arrange and manage her own protection. She forms alliances with other women. They text each other when they know they will be in the company of men they don’t feel safe with. They have code words. They share their location. They keep their phone near them waiting to go find and pick up their friend if needed. They help scheme on how to gather evidence. They are the shoulder to cry on when protection attempts have failed. And they are the support group when deciding how to manage an assault. And still, the ‘protectors’, don’t even believe them, let alone join any effort to protect.
Gents, if you consider yourself a protector, if that is something you wish to be, I love that, I support that. Just please fucking do it! Please actually do the protecting. The women are exhausted with doing all the protecting. They could use your help!

I woke up this morning thinking about interventionist wars. I know, so relaxing!
Maduro is a bad dude, Khamenei was a monster. These people were destroying their own countries. But will our taking them out help at all? I hope so, but I really don’t think so. If the US hadn’t invaded Afghanistan in 2001 would the women there be better off today? Not sure, but it would be hard for them to be worse off!
And then I got to thinking about aliens. It’s my personal guess that they do exist and have been here to visit and, assuming they are a more advanced civilization, I always wonder… why don’t they help us?!?! But now I see. If they took out Trump, or Putin, or Kim Jong Un, would we really be better off in 20 years? No, highly unlikely. Because the leaders that we have are a result of our own issues.
Our horrific leaders are a symptom of our own lack of maturity. If we don’t get better as a species we will just put another psychopath in power.
So really, in a lot of ways, if you want to make the world a better place it’s probably a far better idea to be a therapist than it is to be a political revolutionary.
