I was never looking to replace anything with Nostr. Nor did I have expectations that it would. I don't need my client to mimic something else or provide the same experience all in one.
I was always tepid at best or just socially inclined to join some other controlled and monitored walled garden because the people I know are there. I barely used any of them. Having to sign up for a new social media just for content displayed differently, algorithmically curated feeds, email sign ups, verifications, spam emails from all that shit.
Maybe that's why I almost immediately felt more excitement from the interoperability, varied takes on clients and experiments from this protocol more enjoyable. Even sometimes BECAUSE OF the clunk. The killer app is user empowerment.
At least I can tell a lot of the devs here are actually excited about what they're working on. Even if it wasn't built specifically for a use case I have. Plus, I don't need much to write a shitpost. Like much of nostr, I just need a private key.

I wish I could easily demonstrate how powerful holding a private key is to my family members or friends who think a username and password, phone number, or four digit pin is a comparable security model.
The ones that sort of get it or even agree, don't seem to care enough to consider it worth investigating further.

Signal seems the easiest and most intuitve to onboard close people I know to, even then they're still reluctant to break away from their default messaging apps.
I like simplex, but mainly to send to myself over multiple devices without needing a phone number linked for an account, would also gladly use that if I could convince anyone I know to use it.
Also rooting for things like White Noise, just have even less of a reason to use it as I'm rarely in group chats or DM anyone on nostr, and for the normie acquiatance that has next to no knowledge or understanding of nostr it's still too much despite how clean it is.

I'm really impressed so far, it's almost like Amethyst lite. Keeps most the functionality but in a less convoluted way. I like the power user aspect of Amethyst but what Wisp does keep it's packaged in an simplified, intuitive way.
It's familiar enough for me to not feel like a jarring client switch and more like slipping into a snappier version of something I already know. Great UI layout.
The best part is I don't have to settle for one or the other. It has been a good two days Wisping around though. 🫡

Nostr may not be on any mainstream radars as an alternative to many of these services because it lacks some vacuous sucking sound of corporate greed, containment and allure of reach to the user.
It however doesn't need that. It also doesn't fit into one category of "social app". No curated experience. No feigned freedoms granted by a solitary liable entity. Don't like the client? Don't use it. Pick one that suits you. Use a multitude of them. Build/prompt your own if you're inclined.
Open protocols are vastly more powerful than trending false narratives, censured speech, curated content, and propagandized ad revenue.
I never had to migrate from somewhere else, so maybe that made it easier, but people are sleeping on these things.
Nostr will be here when they need it.

max difficulty on Wisp seems to be 32 bits anyway so... 🤷‍♀️
This is all over my head. I might just stick with it being cool in the interim.

I'm not certain what proof of work for posting notes really does for me, but it's interesting. If anything it seems to give me a few seconds to find my usual fat thumb non proof read errors or just second guess my spergs and bail before it hits difficulty and publishes. Which itself is pretty useful.

Use Amber to log into @npub1h0u…rwx8, use nip-07 to log into jumble.social, seeing a product you want being made by a small business, clicking on their link in their profile that opens in Keychat's internal browser, filling your cart, going to checkout, hit pay in bitcoin and it opening a lightning invoice I can pay with my NWC spending wallet credentials connected to Keychat, all within Keychat, might sound complicated and annoying, especially given how many times I've said Keychat.
Yet somehow to me it feels like all the frictions of how online value transfers, and concessions that come from centralized "solutions", were somehow removed.

While I'm migrating around my current two phone set up, one with my legacy bullshit I still need, and one with just what I want. It's pretty cool that both Citrine intalls work as an individual local relay with the same port, without me having to adjust anything on @nprofile…wywf in my relay settings.
I've got a few other nostr clients and apps that give me a lot of optionality but @nprofile…xcpk and @nprofile…2lxp drive a hard bargain for Android users.
