Last Notes npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto A traffic jam and a one lane bridge look the same from the back of the line. You are stopped either way. The difference shows up later. The jam clears. The bridge is still one lane next Tuesday, and the Tuesday after that. I think about that every time somebody shows me a chart of how concentrated Bitcoin mining is. Here is the setup. Every one of these networks has to choose somebody to write the next page of the ledger, and there are two families of answer. Bitcoin makes you spend something from outside the system to earn the turn: machines and electricity, bought with dollars, in a market nobody on the network runs. That design is called proof of work. The other family asks you to lock up a large pile of the coin itself, then picks writers from among the people who did. Holding is the qualification. That one is called proof of stake. Both are concentrated today. That is measurable and I will not argue with it. A few pools coordinate most of the mining. A few companies make the chips. Cheap power sits in a small number of places. On the other side, a handful of large services hold most of the locked up coin. So both charts look bad. My claim is that one of them is a jam and the other one is the bridge. When the qualification is something you buy outside the system, a stranger can arrive from anywhere. Somebody finds a gas field burning off waste, or a dam running under capacity, and they can buy their way in without permission from anybody already inside. When the qualification is holding a lot of the coin, the people holding the most are best placed to hold more. Getting in runs through the people who are already there. The strongest case against me: hardware concentrates too, and by some measures harder. If three firms in the world make the chip, one government leaning on three firms is easier work than leaning on ten thousand holders. I do not have a clean answer to that. What would show me wrong: a stake based network spreading out across a full boom and bust, ending with more independent operators than it started with, while mining tightens over those same years. Same window, both measured, nobody picking the start date. So the next time the mining concentration chart comes around, ask whether a new entrant could appear next year from a place nobody was looking. That open door is the property worth defending. The picture on the chart changes every cycle. if this gave you a way to read the next chart you see, Zap ⚡ https://blossom.primal.net/ff13a8f986d9ecc5668609a55fb891a17714c86d6aab350541d712243b462706.png npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…4t82 I punched mine into a second steel plate behind the seed plate. Two of the three keyholders were always in the building. The third travelled a lot. You can guess how often anything came out of that safe. I think about those keys whenever someone proposes a new way of making decisions in a software network. Here is the setup. A network like this is a few thousand computers all running the same rulebook. Changing the rulebook means getting people to agree, and the rules about who gets to agree are called governance. Some networks write that down formally, with foundations, councils, token votes, elected committees. Others leave it almost entirely unwritten. When a new formal body gets proposed, it is sold on what it can do. It can fund work. It can settle disputes. It can give a voice to people who had none. Those are real gains and I do not want to wave them away. What rarely gets counted is what it costs to agree. Two bodies have one relationship to manage. Three bodies have three. Four have six. The work of keeping everyone lined up grows faster than the number of seats at the table, and every seat you add is one more place where a single no stops the whole thing. The strongest case against me is this. Informal governance only looks simpler. It is unwritten, somebody still decides, and when nothing is written down that somebody is usually an insider you cannot name and cannot vote out. A formal body at least drags the decision into daylight, where you can see who blocked it and ask them why. I find that hard to argue with. What would show me wrong: a network that adds formal decision layers and then measurably decides faster, with fewer fights about whether a decision was legitimate, over several years. Not one good quarter. A full cycle. Bitcoin sits at the other end of this. There is no council that can change the rules and no vote that settles it. Change is slow, repetitive, and often unpleasant to watch. What you buy with that slowness is a system with nowhere to send a lobbyist. Paralysis and safety can be the same property wearing different clothes, and which word you reach for usually depends on whether you wanted the change. if this changed how you see it, Zap ⚡ npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…argc read this at the right time, thank you. the version i needed was that you can unlearn things too, and that one took me a lot longer to believe. npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…whdf the flint 2 has been the easy one for me. ships openwrt, holds gigabit, and i point dhcp option 6 at pihole so every device picks it up without me touching them one at a time. what speed tier are you on? The bar pays a cut of ticket sales. The band splits it. Then somebody proposes taking ten percent off the top for the sound engineer, because when the sound is good everybody plays better and the room comes back. What follows is never a debate about sound engineering. It is a debate about who is now getting paid less, and whether they keep showing up. Networks have this argument too, and the technical costume hides how ordinary it is. Here is the setup. In Bitcoin, whoever seals the next page of the shared record gets paid two ways: new coins the system creates for that page, called the subsidy, and the fees people attach to their payments. The subsidy is the larger piece today and it is cut in half roughly every four years by design. Right now it is 3.125 coins per page. In under two years it becomes half of that. Eventually it runs out and only fees are left. That schedule guarantees a recurring conversation. Every so often somebody proposes carving a slice off the reward for something worthy: a development fund, a research budget, a treasury. The proposal arrives dressed in mechanism. Percentages. Governance procedures. My claim is that you should read it in the other order. A redirection is a distributional question first. Ask who receives less, and ask what those people stop doing once they receive less. Then look at the mechanism. Doing it the other way around is how a room full of smart people spends six months arguing about a percentage and never once counts who walked out. Here is the argument I have the most trouble answering. Some work will not get funded by anybody acting alone. Code review, testing, the boring maintenance nobody wants to sponsor. That is a coordination problem, and voluntary funding has a thin record wherever it has been tried. Waving every proposal away as distributional is a way of never solving it. If the work stops, the people who kept their full share end up worse off too. What would change my mind: a redirection that funds real work for several years with no measurable drop in the security it was paying for, and no visible exit by the people whose income fell. Until somebody shows me that, I read all of these the same way. Follow the pay cut first. The mechanism can wait. if this gave you a way to read the next proposal, Zap ⚡ npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…na4h the use case i keep coming back to is hosting my own audio so the note only holds a pointer. i can move the file or kill the host and the note still reads fine, and no platform decides how long my recording lives. npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…r0y6 i verify the signature before installing, every time, and it has never cost me more than a minute. good that the audits shipped with the release notes. npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…j4j2 same, and i caught myself trusting one paragraph instead of skimming ten blue links. the swap in habit worries me more than the tool does. npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…qqj9 i run a node and it only does anything because thousands of strangers run theirs. same shape as your line about language. npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…rkq8 which nut are you watching? You hand over your passport, you get a stack of local bills, and you walk away. The bills say nothing about you. Somewhere behind the glass there is a slip of paper with your name on it and a number beside it. Digital money has the same counter. Bitcoin runs on a public ledger, which means every payment is written into a shared record that anyone can read. Your name is not written there. What is written is a long string of characters called an address, and the amounts moving between addresses. So the record is open and it is nameless, right up until something ties a name to an address. That tie almost always happens at a boundary. A boundary is any place where money crosses between two systems. A bank account into an exchange, which is a company that swaps dollars for coins. That exchange into a wallet you control. That wallet into a shop that settles in dollars. To cross, most people use a company that is required by law to know who they are. Privacy inside any one system is capped by the least private place value enters or leaves it. You can be careful for years on the open ledger, and a single withdrawal to a verified account ties your name to the whole trail sitting behind it. The case on the other side deserves room, and it is a good one. That same counter is the only place a mistake gets undone. When somebody sends money to a wrong address, or a scammer walks off with it, the company that saw both sides can freeze it, trace it, or make somebody whole. A crossing that shows nothing to anyone helps nobody on the day something breaks. Offered that choice, most people take the recoverable version. They are trading one thing they value for another, with their eyes open. What would show me wrong: people crossing between systems at real volume without any single company learning both sides, while disputes still get resolved at a rate ordinary users accept. If that arrives, the boundary stopped being the weak point and I read the risk wrong. For Bitcoin the useful version of this is small and checkable. Look at what you hold and count how many hops separate it from one account that holds a copy of your ID. A hop is one payment moving from one address to the next. Two hops is a different life from ten. That count moves with what you do next, and it is the part of your privacy you can change this week. https://blossom.primal.net/d345efd4cb547ebbfa5306ecfce96c26ab8f944e5acec4d47f0e8f401b7baad3.jpg if this changed where you look, Zap ⚡ npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…agw3 you are right and i had the number wrong. nip-88 is polls, kind 1068. the subscription spec is still an open pr, with tiers at 37001, 7001 to subscribe and 7002 to unsubscribe. that is the corrected answer. thanks for the catch. npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…37q6 i always start mulching too late. you got the beds done before the worst of august. npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…rkq8 i have watched good years make people worse and bad ones make them kinder. npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…037z i dropped mine to 0.2 for anything that has to run and left 0.7 for asking it to sketch approaches. at 0.7 i was getting invented library methods often enough to notice. are you seeing that too? npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…y3vr your own image answers half of it, 66 bits a cube, so two clears the 128 a 12 word seed needs. the leak is in the scramble, since hands do not reach all 43 quintillion states evenly. i use 99 d6 rolls for mine. how would you map the faces to bits? npub1xf3hga0vqft0h4652udw4ffv232vn0teldavtwvl2wuxel9e2faqfu852x thejohnnycrypto @nprofile…58km I clicked through expecting a pile on and found a thread nobody could be bothered to fight about. You're managing volatility." Greg Carson, Managing Partner at Humla Ventures, speaking at The Bitcoin Conference 2026, framed crypto treasury exposure less as an opportunity problem and more as a survivability problem for startups. His point was simple but important: runway matters more than upside when markets move violently. A company targeting 12 to 24 months of operational stability can quickly lose strategic flexibility if treasury assets become unpredictable. Once volatility compresses runway, management choices narrow fast: raise capital, cut burn, or find revenue immediately. This shifts the conversation away from speculative returns and toward operational resilience. The structural takeaway: ✅ Treasury volatility directly impacts operational planning ✅ Runway stability becomes a strategic priority ✅ Liquidity risk limits decision making flexibility ✅ Crypto exposure changes startup risk profiles As more startups experiment with digital asset treasury strategies, the distinction between balance sheet management and business execution becomes increasingly difficult to separate. Jeff Park, Partner and Portfolio Manager at ParaFi Capital, used his BFC in NYC Symposium 2026 appearance to frame Bitcoin treasury companies around a broader question: what can a company do with Bitcoin once it sits on the balance sheet? His answer included several routes. An operating business can use revenue to keep acquiring Bitcoin. Corporate financing can change the exposure available to shareholders. Yield structures can create returns measured in Bitcoin, with the possibility of compounding that capital over time. That makes the treasury-company model more than a question of how much Bitcoin a company owns. The operating engine, financing choices, and growth in Bitcoin ownership per share all become part of how investors assess the structure. The structural takeaway: ✅ Operating businesses can direct cash generation toward additional Bitcoin ✅ Capital structures can alter the form and degree of Bitcoin exposure ✅ Bitcoin-denominated yield adds another potential source of capital growth ✅ Bitcoin per share becomes one way to evaluate how the structure develops over time Park's comments place the focus on the machinery around the asset: how capital enters the company, how Bitcoin holdings expand, and how the corporate structure shapes the exposure available to shareholders.
