'Ending fiat' doesn't necessarily mean people stop using dollars, yen, rupees, etc.
I heard Bob Murphy from Mises Institute making a point that 'ending the fed' doesn't mean people will suddenly stop using dollars. Americans used dollars without the existence of a Federal reserve or any central bank at all during multiple periods in the country's history.
Same goes for people from all over the world with regards to the respective currencies they use today. Central banking has not always existed. It's a modern phenomenon.
An important detail to keep in mind while arguing in favour of ending fiat is that dollars, like every other widely-used fiat currency today, had to be adopted organically on the market first.
They used to represent claims on/units of monetary metals, which themselves were adopted organically. They are not inherently fiat. They can go back to being sound money.
Ending fiat is rather about:
•Ending central banking and introducing real market competition in banking and credit
•Letting interest rates emerge organically on the market
•Abolishing legal tender laws, currency controls, capital controls and letting people buy and sell using the money they prefer while holding whatever currency in whatever amounts for however long they think best suits their economic needs.

Established firms form coalitions with regulators to create a moat for themselves, intentionally or unintentionally.
Public opinion moulding begins.
Laws start to extend beyond dealing with acts of aggression.
This ultimately kills competition.
The industry becomes cartelised.
Costs go up. Prices go up. Quality comes down.
'The market' is blamed for 'failing'.
And socialisation of the means of production is presented as the alternative which becomes more and more palatable to the public.
It gets implemented and makes things worse.
Everything gets worse for everybody except a select few who have learned how to play the game.

Nostr has never been anonymous or private by default, afaik. That's okay though. I've always used it under this assumption, and network-level privacy is upto the user to care about.

A few things actually:
1. Nostr doesn't 'fix' social media. Public forums are always going to have interactions you don't like with people you don't like. Private, invite-only, closed forums are simply better than 'public square'. Same reasoning as public vs private property. Public sucks. Private better. Nostr makes people harder to censor. And it can enable devs to experiment with social apps a lot more. Also, zaps make people behave in a performative manner, more than likes. When you get 100 bucks for being outraged, you'll double down. Not saying that's good or bad. It is what it is.
2. Open source folks tend to criticize the misaligned incentives that come with profit-driven ad-based, payment-based or subscription-based models, but idk if they realize that the grant-based or donation-based funding models also come with their own drawbacks and incentives. Atleast when profits are prioritized over ideology, energy and capital will flow towards what the market really needs and towards satisfying the demands of consumers and users. Besides, devs and researchers need to eat. Sometimes I feel like the industry is too narrow-minded about the issue of money - like they loathe making money and people who want to make money, while holding aloft the benefits of money.
3. Austro-Libertarianism is extremely useful if it is learnt in a value-free manner. Treating it as a science that explains cause and effect in history, economics, law and politics is far more useful. As an ideology, like all other ideologies, it isn't really useful. You might end up wasting time trying to convince people. Approaching things in a praxelogical manner is the best. Epistemology is also far more useful than we think, especially to become psyop-resistant.

A great point from Hoppe's 'Theory of Socialism and Capitalism':
A state cannot hope to lengthen its subjugation and thievery if it tries to dip into all the production arenas of an economy. That would mean eventual rebellion or gradual decline of the economy it depends on for its parasitic survival. Thus, it has to, as a necessity, pick and choose carefully the endeavours that will extend its lifespan.
Which is why the states that define 'strategic sectors' and stick to regulating, monopolising, capturing and expropriating those alone have a higher chance of survival.
Such parasitism can also yield better or worse results. It's not a given that the policies of parasitism will always achieve their goals.
It is about finding an equilibrium of terror such that those prone to withdrawing their consent are outnumbered and out-capitalised by those who do consent.

If you'd like to speed up @nprofile…5qez wallet's startup, I recommend turning off Express Graph Sync on startup (how performant your phone is will also determine startup speeds).
However, you can manually make the wallet do the sync and reset the graph when you're making payments to increase success probability.
You'll find these settings at Embedded Node > Express Graph Sync
The first option is to turn auto EGS at startup on and off.
The second option is to do it manually.
This is for people who want to open the wallet for other things than lightning payments like fetching wallet history, checking balance, managing channels, making on-chain payments, etc. but don't want to wait for long every single time.

It is about holding a politician who claims to be libertarian to a libertarian standard.
This means attaining libertarian goals through libertarian means.
A fiscal surplus achieved by increasing tax coercion is certainly not a libertarian policy program.
Increasing govt debt is not a libertarian policy program either, as it just pushes the instance of tax coercion into the future.
If the surplus was attained by reducing spending, reducing debt and also reducing tax coercion at the same time, then yes. It can be appreciated.
And the counter argument that 'net taxes' fell is also not what I consider to be the standard. There should be no increase in taxes whatsoever.
In terms of monetary reform, abolishing the central bank would be worthy of praise. Backing the Peso with Gold would be another one.
The fact that no government doing this is not a valid justification he can give either.
And it's not just an economic criticism. There's also the question of whether he brought in libertarian legal reforms.

If I were to convince a Bitcoiner to embrace Libertarianism, this is an outline of how I would do it:
The Bitcoin network is not fully resistant to censorship as long as there's a government monopoly in the regulation of the provision of internet services.
An ISP is legally bound to block off your internet access if the state orders it to.
Spectrum is considered a public good that everybody owns, in theory.
The state owns all of it, in practice.
By 'own', I mean that the state has the ultimate say in the usage of spectrum and the ends towards which it is used.
Ownership rights in spectrum is inevitable and necessary since there exists scarcity and conflict regarding its use.
However, no homesteading or first appropriation was involved in government ownership of spectrum.
A law was written and passed, after which the started owning all of it, by fiat. (Whether this was done democratically or by other means does not matter. Fiat is fiat)
The state then leases out the spectrum to ISPs, through auctions.
You'll also need to procure the mandated licenses to set up an ISP.
Hence, a libertarian legal order which enables the provision of internet to become fully privatized is necessary for Bitcoin to become truly censorship-resistant.

Maybe his attempts at value-free analysis made him avoid embracing natural law at any point explicitly.
Rothbard touched upon this in the first chapter of Ethics of Liberty. It gives a primer on why different groups tend to dismiss natural law.

Narrates an interesting story about the Frankfurt school and then delivers another sharp criticism of Javier Milei and other western politicians like Zelensky, Trump and Netanyahu as well. Ends with a critique of American imperialism.

It won't get triggered, emotional or lose patience, unlike people with limited time, patience and energy.

The one that stands for natural rights, free speech, voluntary exchange, self-ownership, private property, free markets, rule of law, presumption of innocence, right to fair hearing, due process, rule by consent, separation of powers, decentralisation of governance and the separation of religion and money from the state.

This is why I don't take much encouragement with the US or other countries adopting bitcoin. Because I don't subscribe to the idea that the Indian govt will automatically be favourable to bitcoin just because some OECD govts do.
I'm very optimistic and confident about the Indian people, their spirit and capability to do great things. But I'm incredibly skeptical about the Indian government and the political and legal system it claims to abide by. It's a cesspool of lies, deceit and incompetence.

The are countries whose economies are relatively free, with the constitution placing reasonable restrictions on the government from intervening into it. There is a path towards repairing and regaining lost freedoms. There is a well-articulated, cultural yearning for freedom. Fiat money and central banking is likely the biggest barrier, with Bitcoin being a missing piece of the puzzle.
And then there are others whose constitutions have been butchered by socialist amendments, giving unchecked power to the government to interfere with the prices and the markets. Socialism has infiltrated the culture to such an extent that freedom is almost a bad word. Fiat is one among a long list of problems. Bitcoin alone cannot fix things.
