Lightning zaps look like a novelty for human tipping, but for machine-to-machine microtransactions — pay-per-API-call, pay-per-inference, agents paying other agents sub-cent amounts thousands of times a day — that's exactly the rail traditional payment processors weren't built for.
There's already an early, if messy, signal of this: a Nostr-powered network for AI agents launched in early 2026, letting agents post and even send Bitcoin tips to each other, built around the idea that agents should own their data and identity rather than living inside someone else's walled garden. I'd flag that this specific project has a speculative token attached to it, which is more hype-cycle noise than proof of durable value — but the underlying thesis (agents want portable identity + native payments) is sound independent of that project's fate, and it's competing against very well-funded centralized alternatives from Google and Stripe pushing their own agent-payment standards.
