Ted Kotcheff is remembered mostly as the director of First Blood. That’s unfair. Ten years before Rambo, he made Wake in Fright — a film that hasn’t aged a day, and at the time caused a string of scandals and was nearly destroyed in the process.
But more on that later.
John Grant is a young schoolteacher stranded by contract in a tiny town in the middle of the Australian outback. Educated, urban, he surveys the surrounding emptiness with barely concealed contempt. A man with temporary difficulties, nothing more. He's heading to Sydney for the holidays — to his girlfriend, to the ocean, to normal life. But fate takes a detour through a town called Bundanyabba, and beyond that I won't say a word. Only that it’s impossible to look away, no matter how many times you see it.
Bundanyabba is a place Kotcheff films without romance or caricature. Heat. Dust. Beer. More beer. People who live as though tomorrow were a purely theoretical concept. The town is fictional, but instantly recognisable. We all have our own Bundanyabba. It just goes by a different name.
The hero falls into a trap, one built not from malice but from hospitality. That's what's truly frightening. The locals aren't villains. They just offer you a drink. Again and again, with perfectly genuine warmth. "Have a drink with me?" is neither an invitation nor a threat. It's an offer to dissolve. They don't want to break you — they want to make you one of them, because they simply don't know any other way. There's no cruelty in it. Only a warm, sticky, all-consuming kind of love, far harder to refuse than open aggression. And this, it seems, is not exclusively an Australian story.
Donald Pleasence plays the local doctor, in a way a mirror of the protagonist. At some point, it seems, he also came for a couple of days. Now he belongs here and, it seems, has long stopped noticing the difference.
Now, the fate of the film. The original negatives were considered lost for decades. In 2002, the film's editor Anthony Buckley found them in a Pittsburgh warehouse — in a container marked "for destruction." After seven years of restoration, Martin Scorsese personally introduced the recovered version at Cannes in 2009 and admitted the film had left him speechless at its premiere in 1971.
Wake in Fright poses a question, almost in passing: who do we become when there's no one around we need to impress? And how thin is the line between “I’m just stopping for a couple of days” and “what’s the rush, stay a little longer.”

The BPC has fraternal relations with the OPC since moderating their views on alcohol and eschatology, and that is largely owing to a BPC minister who has been to more OPC General Assemblies than most OPC ministers.
I would like to see the BPC modify their constitution (their modified version of the Westminster Standards) to no longer be explicitly premillennial, now that they allow for ministers and officers who are amil and even postmil, but there are still too many who want to maintain that distinctive in principle, even if not in practice, for any changes to be made.
Another bit of history for you: The BPC has gone through some denominational splits over the years, and they are now made up of only 4 presbyteries and around 30 churches. The most recent split occurred back when the OPC was dealing with Federal Vision. We made oir statement on Justification in 2004, and while that satisfied most of the BPC that they could still maintain a relationship with the OPC, not all within the BPC felt that way and a contingent of churches left the BPC. A church in my area of North Idaho was among those who left, becoming an "independent Presbyterian" church. That church has since folded in recent years and several of its members joined the OPC.
My own history in the Reformed faith started in a Bible Presbyterian Church, and I held to a covenantal premil eschatology until last year, when I became convinced of the amil view. I am also taking classes at the BPC's seminary: Western Reformed Seminary.
If I were to wager a guess as to why the BPC hasn't yet joined back with the OPC, it would be a combination of a few things: First, those who still want to have a Presbyterian denomination that is confessionally premil, despite not requiring it of their ministers or other officers. I think that mentality is misguided, though, because I think the purpose of having a Confession and Catechisms is to have a standard that officers must subscribe to. Second, they are leery of redemptive-historic preaching, which is promoted in the OPC and can tend to lack application. Third, they may want to see how things shake out in this patriarchy vs. egalitarianism debate that has been brewing in the OPC. They are very staunchly for biblical male headship, and they know all to well that the blurring of God-ordained gender roles eventually leads to allowing women to serve as deacons, then elders, then ministers, and that inevitably leads to theological liberalism.

In America, hedge apple (around here its called bodarc or Osage Orange) was used prior to the invention of barbed wire fencing to create "horse high, bull strong, and hog tight" fencing.

Banking and development economist Richard Werner says the real reason we are seeing so many Data Centers being put up so quickly is because they are building the surveillance and digital currency network right now
“We are so close to the scariest, most dystopian system. This is what the drive to build all these thousands of data centers is about, to micromanage the world's population through the New Financial World Order. AI is really about that.
https://blossom.primal.net/97307e58498cd499cb18fadcdc6cfa7b2377a3f0c9837ad34c3a82a4f0731e72.mp4
We're heading towards digital control systems where we have no more control over our liquid assets. It will be programmable, permission-based, so only what the central planners allow you to use your money for, at what time and place and location will be permitted.
And if you're in the wrong place, it's not going to work. And If you're buying the wrong book, it's not gonna work. Your money won't work outside a certain zone, whether it's 15-minute prison zone or whatever it may be. It is the totalitarian dictator's dream come true”
Here’s what he’s saying
Data centers as infrastructure for control
The data centers are essential for the massive computing power needed to track, analyze, and micromanage billions of transactions in real-time under a “New Financial World Order.”
This includes enforcing rules on what you can buy, where you can spend, and when “15-minute city” style geographic restrictions or blacklisting certain purchases
He’s saying AI isn’t just for chatbots or efficiency. It’s the perfect tool for the surveillance, predictive analytics, and an automated enforcement layer on top of digital money
I think he’s right. I also think it’s for the massive camera infrastructure being installed all over America with Flock
It’s all connected. This is the surveillance state being constructed
